littlebearries Posted May 18, 2011 I know there is a section for discussing manga as it is related to Dollfie Dream releases, but this thread is just to discuss the manga you're reading... whether it's got anything to do with a Dollfie Dream or not! So... what are you reading? What is your all time favorite Manga? What is a manga you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy? My current reading list is: Bakuman Skip Beat Tokyo Boys Ouran Host Club Tegumi Bachi Yotsuba&! Hikaru No Go K-On Honey Hunt and... Naruto My all time favorite: I'm biased towards Clamp series, because I love their art style and could spend hours just staring at it... so X/1999 has always been a favorite of mine... and Card Captor Sakura... There are a few series I'm reading now that might make this list... but I want to see them finished before I add them (I know... ironic since I'm a Clamp fan, lol) A Manga I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy: My Girlfriend is a Geek
OtakuDepot Posted May 18, 2011 Oh, big list littlebearries... I love the anime Bakuman so I may try the manga. I've been waiting on Yotsuba&! till it's finished so I can get it all at once and devour it. Oh yea, I love Clamp as well! Most of the series I was reading finished off already... so technically I'm not "reading" them still. Genshiken (technically started back up again - Yea!!!!) Fruits Basket Kare Kano (His and Her Cirbleepstances) The one series I'm still reading and absolutely love is Kaze Hikaru (Shining Wind) by Taeko Watanabe. It's a really good blend of historical, romance, comedy, and action. It's about a young girl who's father was killed by a member of one of the secret rebel forces in Japan. This takes place at the end of the Tokugawa era when there was great turmoil in Japan to see if they should open their boarders to foreigners for trade. She disguises herself as a boy and joins the Miburoshi, police force of ronin samurai who later became better known as the Shinsengumi. Many of the characters in the story are real life people and the timeline is paced around what really happened but don't worry - it's not boring history. Overall I'd call it a comedy as the story is really funny. Now that I've thought about it I haven't bought any manga in a long time. I'm going to have to get a few new series to start up. **James. Galvatim Posted May 18, 2011 Let's see... I guess it's a pretty predictable list... The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya K-ON! Spice and Wolf High school of the Dead Fate/Stay Night Vampire Hunter D Neon Genesis Evangelion Excel Saga Shakungan no Shana Negima School Rumble Rosario & Vampire I was reading Tsukihime, but I heard that the US publisher went out of business... I've got the entire Ring manga set, a number of Junji Ito's works, and I just finished Kashimashi and Strawberry Panic. Oh, and A.I. Love You and Love Hina. And probably other stuff I'm forgetting. Black Butler 1 Bleach 46 X 1999 6 (new ITA localization) Summer Wars 1 Venus VS Virus 6 XXX Holic 18 Oh, My Goodness 41 World Embryo 6 Ann Cassandra 2 I just LOVE the smell of printed paper That's why I don't like to read mangas and other kind of comics on the computer! Too bad now there are a lot of old stories and nothing new like K-ON! and a new company who print many yaoi mangas (I have no interest in them) >_> ... *sigh* enthusiast pasta girl - she/her - power bi Mini Mode Lab
littlebearries Posted May 18, 2011 Too bad now there are a lot of old stories and nothing new like K-ON! and a new company who print many yaoi mangas (I have no interest in them) >_> ... *sigh* Honestly... I'm not really sure about K-ON! ... I know that might be blasphemy, so many people seem to love it, but for me, it's just a little too disjointed and all over the place (even the other characters in the manga seem confused by what's going on sometimes)... If I want to read a totally pointless manga, I'll read Yotsuba&! or Azumanga Daioh. XD I'll keep reading K-ON! for a bit though, to see if anything happens... it is cute. baldylox Posted May 18, 2011 I don't have a big library of manga. I do like reading tho and follow a few series. I own: Azumanga Daioh Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Yotsuba! Higurashi: When They Cry Chobits Gunsmith Cats Higurashi, Zetsubou Sensei and Yotsuba! are the only current ones I have that are still coming out with new books. All the others are completed series. I wish I had more time for manga but I don't. Heck, I have a serious backlog of anime I still have to watch.... something near 20 series just sitting and waiting for some free time. But my daughters take all my free time now. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

Chobits Clover Card Captor Sakura Love Hina Some of my favourites of all time: Ranma 1/2 Magic Knights Rayearth I don't read really awful manga so I dunno ^^; I *try* not to read awful manga... but sometimes people give it to me and say "This is great!"... and they lie!!! Another one I need to add to that list of AWFUL is Battle Royale. I didn't get past the first one... everyone had mullets and the drawing proportions were TERRIBLE and they massacred the story almost immediately. Bleh. Guest Posted May 18, 2011 Banya the Explosive Delivery Man is pretty much the only manga I'm reading as of now. I've yet to get Vol. 2 though .
di-chan123 Posted May 18, 2011 my current reading list is: Strawberry 100% (Ichigo 100%) Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles Cardcaptor Sakura The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (ok ok...it's actually the light novels :3) Right now, the only thing I'm disappointed with is that Viz hasn't released vol. 15 of Strawberry 100%, and it's already been 6 months since vol. 14. I also heard that the Sailor Moon manga is going to be reprinted in September, so I'm adding that to the list too ^^<
Galvatim Posted May 18, 2011 The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (ok ok...it's actually the light novels :3) I've been reading the Haruhi light novels too, as well as the Spice and Wolf and Hunter D novels. I've taken a break from reading both the Haruhi novels and manga though, while I decide if I want to read Disappearance first or see the movie.
DivinitaAria Posted May 19, 2011 Has anyone read After School Nightmare? That's one of my favorite series :D Anyhow, I haven't read anything new in a while. I checked out Black Butler from the library as well as Soul Eater. Didn't finish Black Butler, it just didn't really draw me in. And I didn't even start Soul Eater I need some good suggestions I would love to have all the Aria/Aqua manga in my collection, but they're so hard to find in stores! I have Aqua volume one, but I'm not sure if my copy has been printed wrong because some pages are upside down and weird o.o. jadepixel Posted May 19, 2011 I was reading Otoyomegatari (Bride's Story) scanslations until it was acquired, now I'll have to wait a while for the English version to catch up. But I was really enjoying the story thus far, about a woman in 1960's Afghanistan who is married off to a 12 year old boy. The author also created the 'Emma' manga and the whole English maid craze ^_^ I'll have to look for some of these light novels- I was getting into the Spice and Wolf anime but it ended somewhat abruptly. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop
Suzuna Posted May 19, 2011 I read After School Nightmare. It was quite odd. The only manga I'm reading month to month right now is Kodomo no Jikan. Others, I tend to blitz read through them when complete.

I absolutely agree with you on Black Butler the manga... I was a bit bored by it... on the other hand, for whatever reason (maybe because it moves faster? I don't know) I'm liking the anime of it. As far as recommendations... well... I really liked Deathnote, I've been enjoying Alice in Hearts, 20th Century Boys and Bakuman, and then on the floofier side of manga (I'm not sure, by your selections, if you really care for them or not) I love Skip Beat, Kobatu and Yatsuba&! littlebearries Posted May 25, 2011 Out of curiosity... does anyone know anything about Durarara! ... like... have you seen it? Do you know where to get it? Is it out in manga form?! I also just picked up Hetalia 1&2 (the anime totally cracks me up... but it's so NOT PC XD ), K-ON 2 and Lucky Star 1... now I must start reading!
Kumi Posted May 25, 2011 Out of curiosity... does anyone know anything about Durarara! ... like... have you seen it? Do you know where to get it? Is it out in manga form?! It is, but I don't know if there is an official translation. http://www.mangafox.com/manga/durarara/ I was recently reading The World God Only Knows and had a good laugh at it. The whole concept of this series was so amusing, like new hell, loose souls and pretty demons in capturing squads. And the main protagonist is a total geek. I can relate to him, but only a little, I never played that much VN like him. The anime is awesome, too...

OtakuDepot Posted May 30, 2011 Out of curiosity... does anyone know anything about Durarara! ... like... have you seen it? Do you know where to get it? Is it out in manga form?! I'm not familiar with the manga but I did see the anime when it was out. If the story held true to the manga I think it would be a good read. Especially if you like city life in modern Tokyo. Also, the whole "DOLLARS" gang idea was just fantastic - always makes me smile when I think about it. I don't want to give anything away but it's good stuff. **James. baldylox Posted May 30, 2011 I just got back from the Animazement convention in Raleigh NC and I bought almost the entire run of "Sundome". It's supposed to be pretty "out there" as far as topics go but after only 2 chapters, I'm hooked. I just need to buy the 8th volume and it will be a full series. iomi Posted June 17, 2011 not so many shounen fans around here. if I had to recommend my ultimate my favorite , it's One Piece . I up to date with its latest chapter (628). It's certainly the best written manga thus far i couldn't believe i was missing it before~ and the anime is also awesome. from all shounen mangas i read and watched, nothing will reach one pieces epicness XD. I would only recommend it to certain people though :3 i almost have a collection of 400 mangas so far, though most of them are shoujo hehe but from what i bought recently i'm currently reading: 1- Slam Dunk vol 3 ( i watched the full anime and it's also on my all time favorite watch, inoue-sensei hit manga) 2- Vampire knight vol 10 ( i read it 7 volumes while i was traveling but it's not a really exciting manga, i'll finish it once it's all out 2-otomen vol 5 ( i love this cute series, the art style suits my taste very much , can't wait to have all volumes) i need to read the other titles i got,,, but have a lot to do at the moment hehe At home: Rina and Reina( Twins ),DD Neris,Oscar(DD Beatrice),Bunni DD Akira)Melon( DD Yuki.M)Saber Extra(x2), Toki(DD Rise), Saber Alter, Saber Lily and Kudo, Rosalie, Cirno and Kan'u,Melty, Aoko, mika(06), Rin Tohsaka
littlebearries Posted June 17, 2011 i almost have a collection of 400 mangas so far, though most of them are shoujo hehe LOL, you sound like my friend, she has over 1000 volumes... so usually when I want to read manga I go to her XD I actually do read some Shounen... I've read One Piece, but seen more of the anime. It's very cute, but the English dub makes me want to hurt people... it's awful. I read Naruto and Hikaru no Go and Bakuman, all of which, so far, I recommend. I've also been reading Hetalia... NO idea what that's classified as other than comedy XD I absolutely recommend it... but... uh, if you have a LOT of National pride... maybe not. You've got to be able to laugh at your country a little. I'm also reading Lucky Star... which... is really cute so far XD
iomi Posted June 17, 2011 hahaha wow 1000 !!! that's a number i'd love to pass as well. but i've cut back buying manga cuz of all the other hobbys expenses now ^^'' ( figures and now DDs lol ) so i only buy at every 6 months basis... just hearing that you watched one piece in dubbed english it hurts my heart lol... i will never watch any anime that's dubbed , EVER XD it kills the show and the characters ^^' no wonder many people drop one piece and even other titles bcuz of the stupid dubs >< they even change the story and characters names which is really not faithful to its original story, sigh I'm a huge fan of of Takeshi obata and Tsughumi ohbas previous hit Death note ( it's on my top 3 fav heh) so i had to check out bakuman and so far it's great. naruto disappointed me ^^' even the latest chapters are drifting away so i put a stop to it for a while .... i might go back watch/read later many did a huge fuss about hetalia especially the many fan arts/cosplays i've seen ^^ ... watched few eps of the manga but didn't check out the manga honestly. though i got the art book which is too cute << art books addict lucky stars anime was tooo too cute,, it's probably on my fav random/everyday life/moe anime heh, might wanna check out the manga someday At home: Rina and Reina( Twins ),DD Neris,Oscar(DD Beatrice),Bunni DD Akira)Melon( DD Yuki.M)Saber Extra(x2), Toki(DD Rise), Saber Alter, Saber Lily and Kudo, Rosalie, Cirno and Kan'u,Melty, Aoko, mika(06), Rin Tohsaka
