What Manga are you reading?

Recommended Posts

I have several volumes of Sailor Moon waiting. I really enjoy them.

Has anyone read Ouran all the way through? The anime left me wanting more . . . Does the manga pick up where it ended?

Also, I kinda of want to pick up Black Butler. I was kind of "meh" about the end of the second season, and I hear the manga is different,

I think the Ouran manga is about a million times better than the anime (and I like the anime) but you get all these little funny asides from the author in it... and it JUST finished in the US, so you should be able to buy the whole thing... it has a very satisfying conclusion... she really tries to let you know what will happen to everyone.

*edit: It doesn't pick up where the anime leaves off, it starts at the beginning, runs parallel for the most part to the anime for a while (but it's still different enough that the manga is worth buying the whole thing) and then takes off where the anime leaves off.

As for the Black Butler Manga... I found it REALLY boring. I bought two volumes of it and then gave up on it. I like the anime much better on that one.

Thanks for that. Looks like a box set of all 18 volumes of Ouran is coming out, so I will pick that up. As for Black Butler, I loved the first season but was disappointed by the second season (and the ending), so I was hoping that the manga would be more satisfying. I guess not!

I have discovered a whole shelf of Rumiko Takahashi books at the library... so excited!

Apparently VIZ did a nice looking rerelease of Maison Ikkoku and Mermaid Saga a few years back, with the usual meticulous art touching up for sound effects but keeping it unflipped (altho a few editing mistakes sneak in exactly because of that. Mostly occasional chapter or place title)

so reading all of Mermaid Saga right now. Completely forgot just how much blood is in that series (yuta bleeds out every other chapter), yet Rumiko-sensei keeps the violence not too graphic (or maybe all the Berserk binging just desensitized me?)

Alas, if only they'd go back and rerelease LUM too

Im reading Dororo Omnibus, Im sorta freaked out that its about as big as 4 and a half volumes of any regular release volume on my shelf and even rivals my in-depth study bible in size....

Maid-sama's DD-daughters is a family of FOUR

Panda Yoshino x Amity Hirasawa x Shiki Kiyomi x Ringo Wan-Chan

where the rainbows, butterflies and dollies are...

I'm the worst type of fan for Kaori Yuki. I fell in love with Godchild, and got them all as they came out. They helped me learn how to draw and I didn't even think about looking into her other series! So I just read the first Fairycube (and plan on continuing) and it's got HEDGEHOGS in it (well, not really, but they're hedgehogs sometimes!)!

I'm not really actively reading any, but the one I go back and reread the most is Kare First Love. It reminds me of my first love, except more romantic...and it lasted. Plus I love the artwork. I'm also getting Ouran High School Host Club bit by bit, and I continue on a lot of the ones that used to be in Shojo Beat.

I am reading Vampire Knight at the moment- love it, but it's painful having to wait a month until the next chapter I'm used to having all the chapters out and reading them all at once (I've only been reading manga for a little while)

So far Ouran Host Club is my favourite, I think her characters are so well fleshed out, and I care what happens to all of them! I must be in the minority that I really like the Black Butler manga- I think Ciel comes across as more vulnerable than in the anime^^;

I tried to read the Melancholy of Haruhi S but couldn't get into it. I've just started watching Death Note and am a big fan- not sure if I will read the manga though...

The manga is *beautiful*!!!! I highly recommend it, and it's not that long a series... plus it's entirely out, so no waiting.

I've been reading Neon Genesis Evangelion for the past week and am loving it. I think the story is way more cohesive than the anime. It flows together so well while the anime seemed like it was two anime styles fighting for power.

I'm reading the re-released Sailor Moon comics. I'll never get enough of that series, and I'm thinking of picking up this series called Arisa. Has anyone here read it before?

Yes, well sort of for me. I picked up the first book of Arisa to see if I liked it and I really did. But then the next book they bothered to stock was for some reason volume five. I found volumes two and three later elsewhere, and so far I really like the series. It keeps good mystery suspense without getting too draggy. At some point I'll get around to ordering more online

I've read the summary of the series and it sounds very interesting. I'll order the first volume online soon, since my local stores don't really have a good selection of manga. I used to buy some from Walmart but now they've stopped stocking them.

I finished re-reading "Sundome" and am now deep into "Chobits" again. I first bought the 2 Omnibus versions back in 2010 because I knew I'd have a long flight to Japan and back. I wound up reading the first half of the series on the flight over and about half of the second part on the return flight. I haven't revisited them since so it was nice to start over and see Chi and Hideki again.

Just read the first volume of Gate 7 by CLAMP... and I'm in love. Must go buy next volume after work!!!

This series is a marriage between their newer, uber chibi-cute style of drawing (like you see in Tsubasa and Kobatu) and their epic, beautiful, AMAZING style that you see in manga like X/1999... and I'm flabbergast at how fantastically these two styles work together.

In the middle of a massive Fruits Basket binge! ... or at least was 'till the Library totally trolled... They have almost the whole series, 'cept after volume 7 the next book available is 11. Noooo!

How am I supposed to fill in some blanks and possibly another zodiac curse reveal if there's full 4 volumes missing

Really thinking I should try the K-ON! series. I keep seeing it around, and I think I'd like it. Right now, though, I'm finishing up reading Sailor Moon, again. Or at least, the volumes that are currently released. I also need to pick Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles back up. I started it and never finished!

I started reading the Oreimo manga... Not very impressed so far...

I picked up the very odd Attack on Titan too. Giant flesh-eating zombies are destroying the world! I'll have to wait for the second volume to see if this will be a good one...

The anime's better IMO. The manga has the same story, but you don't get to hear the music along with it. Considering it's about a band, hearing the music makes sense to me.

I recently read MeruPuri, Matsuri Hino's (most famous for Vampire Knight) second manga series. It was a cute little romantic comedy. Not bad.

Are you ready to rock? ^_^

It's out in the US. Dark Horse is the publisher.

I just finished reading Hikaru no Go and it was really good, much better than I expected and I expected it to be good, ha ha. I had read a couple volumes several years ago and really liked it, but it took me forever to return to it. Maybe there were only a few volumes out at that time. Also, I'm not a big fan of shonen manga or sports, so it's not the first thing I would pick up to read. Glad I did, though.

I'm reading Fruits Basket now. Watched anime probably in 2008/2009, so I don't remember everything very well. Currently I really like it although I'm only at chapter 23 (volume 4).

Also, just noticed Tari Tari at mangafox and read the first chapter. Almost the same as anime but with guys missing.

Oh, the Fruits Basket manga is much better than the anime- they just left so much out. I guess they didn't have time to cover it all, but honestly they probably had enough material to go 52 episodes without much filler. They left out several entire characters in the anime, for goodness sakes! So yeah, I definitely recommend the manga.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to read the manga soon. Maybe after I finish rereading The Dark Tower books. I'm already half way through and don't want to stop in the middle of the story.
