Pikangie Posted October 31, 2012 I'm curious how many here play MMORPGs, metaverses, or other online anime-style games, and what kinds. I think the best thing about online games is similar to dolls. My favorite things about them are character creation and dress up(especially high-quality anime graphics). So to me, I feel MMORPGs are somewhat like doll simulators, even though they aren't really dolls, but in a sense they are similar. I really am attracted to anime-style MMORPGs, and sometimes more realistic ones if their characters are pretty and doll-like(with pretty boys too). I think if you named any Anime MMOs, there's a high chance I've played, or at least heard of it. XD I think that one that I am waiting for the English release of is PSO2, because the character customization on that is really amazing. I play it in Japanese, but my friends were unable to join, so I'm waiting for it to be in English. I was also very impressed by the graphics of new upcoming anime games like ELS/Luna Story 2, Lime Odyssey(seems abandoned), and Ragnarok Online 2(both old and new). It's taking so long for any of them to release, though. @_@ On another note, Second Life is actually very good for anime graphics, but it depends on who creates the characters, because everything in the game is made by other players. I have made "3D anime dolls" in SecondLife myself, both with "painted on eyes", and "customizable 3D eyeballs". They both work well in the game. These are the ones I made with the newer doll-like eyes: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v260/pikangie/audaxjrpg-1.jpg Or a video to see it in motion: And these are the older "painted on" eyes: http://i.imgur.com/a5qyx.jpg I found my first Dollfie Dream's face up to be very similar to my 3D texturing experiences, where you "paint" the facial details onto the head. Along with Second Life, I've also tried Whirled, which is similar, but in 2D with Flash. I did make an anime-styled semi-chibi characters in Whirled, which work nicely though they have a "ragdoll" feel to the animations. This was one short animation I did with one character from Uta no Prince-sama: http://pikangie.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d4nv4me I do also play Tinierme, but have been less fond of it since they've quadrupled prices(Yes, you must pay for nice things via... dun Dun DUN... Gachapon! D: ), and you can't custom draw your own designs for use on the site. Otherwise, it's good for a social experience. There is also Gaia Online, which I'm more fond of than Tinierme in terms of company friendliness/less greediness, and I believe users can enter clothes designs in contests. leitan Posted October 31, 2012 i'm also waiting on the English localization of PSO2 - TERA online is all that kept me from playing on the JP servers as they were released roughly the same time. i'm still VERY tempted to make a JP server character... but holding out. speaking of TERA then, does anyone here play on Tempest Reach? i got really close to the level cap but RL got in the way and my guild split up, so i haven't even experienced the endgame content. i mainly play Second Life right now, for pretty much the reasons you stated: - it's an avatar/fashion/dressup/style diorama AKA doll simulator - it has music and social interaction - it's an open ended sandbox - endless exploration and beautiful places to visit i have an anime avatar but i admit i never use it, i prefer cute "human" avatars, but i am friends with many people who use anime avatars. i have Tiniermie, PoupeeGirl, Gaia accounts etc but i don't play those games currently... and i have a Japanese Hangame account. they have several "dressup" and "anime" style games on their site that might be of interest since it's a social networking site as well as a game hub. i'm also looking forward to Lime Odyssey and i thought Eden Eternal was probably one of the cutest "generic" anime MMOs to play for free that i found lately, but i never found anyone who was really into it and in case you can't tell i'm not into soloing much as it makes me lose the will to play. oh! and i also play AION from time to time. that counts, right? you can literally make "anime" looking characters now in that game very easily even though they have the "realistic" faces too. anyway, i think your SL avatars look really cool, i wish i was talented enough to build avatars but unfortunately i am but a lowly texture maker... here's my SL avatar, i figured i'd share her anyway despite not being an anime avatar: behind you by ___rei, on Flickr if anyone else plays SL, Aion, Tera, or any of the other games mentioned i'm always looking for people to play with. Pikangie Posted November 1, 2012 Oh cool, I wasn't expecting anyone to be into Second life here. Usually when I talk about it on forums, people seem disgusted by it because they think of it as a weird "fetish" game. @_@ Your avatar is cute. I usually don't use human avatars, but if they look "dollish" or young, I do love them. If you want, you could add me on SL. I always log on at least once every week or two, or when I have nothing else to do. My name's Kouki Elska. I haven't tried Tera, because it's P2P, and I really don't like to pay subscription fees to games unless they're like $5. xD I have a friend who really got addicted to it, though. I played Lime Odyssey when it was in English beta, but they just never brought it back up. @_@ I'm guessing they abandoned it, and didn't bother to tell anyone. It's a shame because the graphics were beautiful. I loved the Muris race, they were so cute. PSO2's fun, though I'd say the character creation's the best part of the game, and then the combat. xD There's housing, but that costs real money, I believe. If I had friends who play it, I might be willing to pay, though. I think I remember signing up to the Japanese Hangame, to play MMOs, and remember making a starter avatar. xD I'm actually working on making my own web-based doll/avatar maker, for a friend's forum. I've been lazy lately, though, so the progress has gotten slow. It's a sort of simplistic anime-style design overall, with the starting choices being based on Mabinogi(since that's the forum's subject). These are a few examples of the starters. xD http://i.imgur.com/n4Ybt.jpg If you do join PSO2, you can add me. I don't get on much, though. My name in PSO2 is Fran/Pikangie. I believe in-game names are not unique, so it might require adding via the person's account name as there's multiple people with the same name. Also, I do believe Aion would count, since the humans can look doll-pretty, and there's also anime-style options. Basically any game that isn't limited to buff macho men. XD My first character was a young doll-like boy with pinkish blonde hair and bunny ears.
leitan Posted November 2, 2012 well... the thing with SL is that while the stigma attached to it is true (=there is no better online game to play if you have a fetish and want to cyber with as many people as you can think of) that stigma is SO huge that people COMPLETELY ignore everything else the game has to offer. and it has so much to do, it's very enjoyable, at least for me. if you want to play SL to cyber that's all fine with me but personally, i have been amusing myself with it for nearly 3 months and that isn't my prerogative. i'll add ya though! also, you know you can play TERA free up to level 20 now? i understand not wanting to play sub games though, although they do have the system where you can farm in-game gold to pay for your subscription instead of paying real $$ which is pretty cool. that really sucks about the Lime Odyssey beta having no signs of life... i really hope they bring it to the US and other english speaking locales =( the character creation in PSO2 has me psyched, but i also loved all the PSP games and did play the original PSO on the Dreamcast so yeah, i have a feeling i will enjoy it, i just am torn between waiting for an English release of it and playing JP. i made a Mabinogi account once but i felt too nooby to actually do anything with it... plus this was during the time when Nexon f'd up (again? ha) and loads of people couldn't access their characters for months? wasn't exactly confidence inspiring... not a Nexon fan... the starters for your dressup game look cute though. did you ever play KiSS games back in the day? (if you know what i'm talking about you'll know don't mean the band, lol) i have two main (non level capped) characters in AION who have a very anime look, if i find SS i will post them ^^
fsshaer Posted November 10, 2012 I have an anime character based avatar on Second Life! She came out pretty cute. But I can't seem to make any friends on there, so I feel like I wasted my money. I had tried TinierMe and Poupee(lazy sp?)Girl, but had the same problem. IMVU, AWOLnow, and GaiaOnline worked pretty well for me for a few years! But I quit them for a while, and when I came back none of my friends played. They now have me suffer the same fate as the previously mentioned. No friends and never used.

But I quit them for a while, and when I came back none of my friends played. They now have me suffer the same fate as the previously mentioned. No friends and never used. 3 I have the same problem with Tinierme and Gaia, I think mainly due to the fact that I can't make things on there and the population is mostly too young for me(It's hard to really converse with teens now that I'm old). As well as the fact that they enforce chat and such, so you can't really "be yourself" if you're a pervert who likes to make dirty jokes. Second Life is somewhere I've never had trouble finding friends on, probably because a lot of people there are in my age group(20 something), and the anime community is pretty small and cozy(not to mention crazy), so it's not hard for me to fit in there. There's also a lot of roleplaying, which is common in anime sims. xD People in general are really social there, and seem to rarely push you away from their group because they also want to make more friends. Though, I guess there's a caution since I meet a lot of mentally unstable people(depression, aspergers, etc). As long as it's not severe, it's not an issue, though.
