That is incredible!

I was worried about the DDIII body standing unsupported, but know that I handled another one, I think that assembled something wrong after checking for cracks... Alter is so much easier to stand than Extra ...

My Feeple65 might be able to. She might have too much mobility in her knee joints and ankles though, she can actually sit Japanese-style with her butt flat on her ankles. An Iplehouse girl almost certainly could do it, they've got locking ankles and about the same knee mobility.

Anyway though, that's a pretty... unique pose. For normal standing or sitting, a good BJD is unbeatable. At least the DDIII can sit pretty much upright in a chair or on a ledge, it always drove me nuts how the DDII leaned so far back.

I started with DDs and I'm still a fan of them, so I'm not here trying to say BJDs are better dolls or anything like that. But a well-designed one is incredibly solid. My GF and I were totally blown away when we got our first BJDs after having experience with DDs and found how much more stable they were. The Iplehouse EIDs are the really amazing ones, if you ever get to handle one you'll see what I'm talking about. Imagine a wine bottle or a 1.5l water bottle or whatever sitting on a table. That's what they're like when standing.

No resin, no matter how well engineered and stringed, won't have that much friction in legs to support 1.5kg of weight in that "air-chair" position.

Not without additional support.

Then You probably can do that, there are techniques like inserting wires and such, but I'm not sure about the ankles...

My Undine can stand with straight legs and sit upright, no problem. Has some "latches" here and there.

But the weight alone is dangerous to her - she may topple over and then may break something.

I'm much more afraid to left her standing than my DDs.

My resin girls are a little older 08 so I think a lot if them have newer additions like the knee joints and locking ankles my girls can stand but that's it even after tweaking it was always had problems holding her arms out. My boy from a different company poses much better. When I got my DD I was like Say what!?

The posing abilities are not even close to being on par with DD I can't imagine why anyone would have so many problems posingDD. Now I just get super frustrated when posing the resins.

As far as DDs remaining on DOA. I think it would be good because it is such a large community even if they are not a huge topic there . I personally haven't had any problems there but they can be strict with keeping threads VERY on topic.

Either way I like this forum better!

I have several resin BJDs... the only doll of mine that can't stand is my new MDD ^_^;;;

I'll have to sit down with all my dolls one day and see what kind of crazy poses I can get them into, I'm usually to lazy to do that. I did get my minifee to stand on one foot before.

Just had a thought... Once DOA is back up would it be alright to post links here for relevant DD/DOA threads? I would really love to see what's going on over there as it pertains to the DD but simply don't have the time to sort through what feels like ten gazillion threads.

~Sister Kyoya

Okay, DOA is back up ^_^

The current DD thread - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?537310-Dollfie-Dream-General-Discussion-Part-IX

There are older threads for DD discussion, but when a thread gets too long, they start a new one. Hence, Part IX.

The current MDD thread - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?128995-Volks-Dollfie-Dream-Mini-discussion-part-1

Hm, what else...

Here's the database for people's DDs - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?30104-Sweet-Dollfie-Dreams-(Database-for-Volks-Dollfie-Dream-dolls)

The photo request sub-forum, you can search "dollfie dream" to find DD specific threads - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?19-Photo-Reference

The sub-forum for customization (face-ups, mods, etc) - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?15-Customization-amp-Maintenance

The sub-forum for sewing, searching "tutorial" or "pattern" can help - http://www.denofangels.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?18-Sewing-amp-Crafting

Oh, it looks like they gave patterns their own sub-forum at the top there, that'll be handy.

I've got to say, this forum is miles better than DoA...

I voted for DD's to be kept, even if we are confined to one thread I think that a little bit of exposure on DoA is better than none. Maybe it will direct people to this forum if they discover DD's on DoA.

I joined DoA when they had the open registration at the beginning of the month. I plan to post often in the DD thread there to keep the discussion alive and healthy! I know a lot of members from this forum frequent the DD thread at DoA, so I hope to see you guys there (I'm a long-time lurker, but just decided to make an account today since I've been posting more on DoA)

Just be careful how 'active' you are - when I first started there and was just really excited about the hobby they decided to go through most of my posts and delete them because they were done 'too quickly'. (but I'm a very fast typer/reader.. so apparently I should have waited 5-10 minutes between each post vs my 3-5 b/c I'd check the site during my lunch and breaks at work) Even though most of my posts were actual critiques or real feedback... It's made me paranoid about even trying to engage with their message boards just b/c you never know if you'll get a sudden popup message saying your posts have been deleted due to "___________" reasons, then you really can't rebut anything - and to some extent I get it, it's a big site with people that kind of go haywire on there.. but, there's no giant hammer being swung down say on our lovely site vs theirs. (for example, I just got a giant red card for apparently mentioning something about a group order outside of the marketplace, but as a low poster I can't do that *anyway* sooo... -___-)

Yeah, the moderation is really strict on DoA -- always watch what you say, especially if it has to do with sales. Their on-topic criteria is really strict too, but I'm hoping that'll change soon (they added a new "Non-Asian dolls" subforum which they have yet to explain).

As for me, I've got a large resin family and no DD's as of yet. I am rather a DoA addict, actually. ^_^; Just recently joined this forum, and I'm liking how it's not as strict as DoA.

I've spent a lot of time on DoA in the past but wound up not posting as often as it's just constantly the same discussion topics re-hashed. Their moderation on topics is pretty strict (needs to be for such a big forum), but I think what put me off the most was some of the outlandish subjects that came up (supernatural stuff mostly).

I still have several resins (10, now that I think about it...) but I think the biggest thing that bugs me about resins is how most of them are pouty!

Hmmm some talk about getting more exposure.

The way I see it, the less exposure we get, the better chance we have of winning the lottery

I find the atmosphere here much lighter and friendlier than DoA, though!

I've been looking around DoA and it seems that they have a higher rate of stolen or some scamming issues :\ I believe in this community there isn't any such issue?

It's because the resin BJD community is much bigger and more diverse. Dollfie Dreams all come from one company (Save accessories and extra parts/custom heads, etc) so there's a lower range of appeal and less interest, so a smaller community.

It also seems there is a much larger community of younger resin BJD owners as well, as some of the companies are less cost-prohibitive. My first MSD-sized doll was only $240, and there are many companies that are even less expensive. That could have something to do with having a larger portion of people acting out?

Seconding Yuan.

The DD fanbase is a lot smaller, they are harder to get, often limited and more expensive, which already sorts out a lot of people (i.e. young ones, people who don't want to order internationally etc.).

Their style and material (anime + vinyl) is also only appealing to a certain base of people, not to mention that without hybridizing we only have girls available.

There are many more factors why the BJD part of the doll collecting hobby attracts a lot, a LOOOOT more people than the DD one, thus more transactions that can go wrong are also made.

Also DoA is THAT forum for the BJD hobby, so if something happens it will most likely end there and a lot of veeeery old stuff is also on this site, so people can always inform themselves what has happened in the past.

Is there something like that for the DD area? Like a huge, very, very old forum pretty much everyone in the hobby is part of?

Because it also might be that you just have never seen the bad stuff happening in the DD hobby (it exists, believe me. Sadly no hobby is without that kind of stuff )

Going to Third Yuan and second Ara.

With the resins you've got hundreds of companies with lots of different sculpts, and on DoA they're all pooled together under one roof. Essentially, it's THE place to go if you speak english and collect Resin ABJD. Kinda like a big online BJD convention.

Scamming and more seems to run rampant there, because it's so huge. The good transactions far out number the bad ones, but just because it's so huge, there seems to be an overwhelming amount of sour ones.

DDs are much more niche than resin dolls and will probably remain so. Aside from the price, often limited quantities, and lack of diversity in style, I think a lot of what deters resin collectors from DDs is the fact that there are only girl dolls to collect. I can safely say that it's at the very least a 70/30 of boy to girl doll ratio in the Resin community. There are lots of boys: ones that look like little boys, grown men, some that look like girls, and everything in between.

There's a huge yaoi fandom within the resin doll community too, and yaoi has nothing to do with boobs and hips. The DDs don't appeal to that massive part of the Resin collectors.

If Volks ever started producing some DollfieDudes ( ) with the same quality that the girls have, I've no doubt we'd start seeing more resin doll collectors migrating over to the vinyl side, because it would open up a LOT of appeal. A lot of resin owners pick boys over girl sculpts (unless someone is going for an ultra feminine doll face on their boy) because they're often very close to the anime style. Most resin girls look like . ..for lack of a better term. . . dolls. A lot of them targeting the other portion of resin collectors that come from porcelain and fashion doll collecting.

So, I guess as a TL:DR, unless we get some dudes this side will probably maintain its smaller size because there is a distinct abundance of boobs, hips and awesome that doesn't appeal to or target the same audiences that the resins are able to target and appeal to, not that I'm complaining.

From the last dollmeet I also had the feeling that actually a lot more BJD owners would like to have DDs if they would a) know where to get them* b) would have been able to at least once see and play with them in person.

A lot of them were fascinated by Yukino and Cupcake, especially how light they are, how they pose and how different they look like, but they only knew them from photos and had imagined them a lot different. I also had people saying that they always wished for a DD but that it would be too hard to get one from VOLKS Japan, especially because a big part is either limited or a lot of the stuff is always sold out, and that the fear of staining is a big turn off.

All in all many of them were actually very open and loved our girls, and I bet if VOLKS wouldn't be such a hassle to German buyers we had more of them around. The fact that they don't want to mark down packages and that we have a very strict (and expensive) custom system isn't helping either :/

* (for many here in Germany VOLKS is something like the "no clue what to do with them" company, and we also don't have that much VOLKS around )

You've got a point with that too Ara.

I actually didn't get interested in DDs as a whole until seeing them in person. Tis why I blame baldylox for my new wanting for a DD, and most definitely with the body drought there was when I started it was beyond frustrating to want in on a hobby and not be able to get anything without it being a click war.

That was incredibly off putting to a newbie. No joke.

I always thought they were smaller than they are and incredibly less poseable than they are. Figuring out where to get one from was an adventure, especially when some of the girls I want were came out years ago.

Hee hee, I do my best to drag you resin girls into the DD hobby even tho you're kicking and screaming.

As for the drought being off-putting, I totally agree with you. New people coming into the hobby is what helps it grow and stabilize, without new blood in a hobby, that hobby will stagnate and wither. I've always been a proponent of helping out newer people as much as possible ( within reason of course ) with their questions and such.

So having it hard to get into a hobby sucks bigtime. I do think Volks learned their lesson tho after the Saber debacle. Look how they did KOSMOS/MOMO... only one doll per person now and they are stating up front that the timeframe will be close to a year. Nothing like this happened with the Sabers and they know full well they screwed up bigtime there. Hopefully things will get back to a more normal way of getting bodies and parts so that new and old collectors alike can get what they want.

I always thought they were smaller than they are and incredibly less poseable than they are. Figuring out where to get one from was an adventure, especially when some of the girls I want were came out years ago.

Yep, I was the same before I got my first. I knew they were 2 feet tall and really posable but until I had Manami in hand, I had no clue. And wanting older releases isn't easy, I found that out with Ryomou. But if you keep your eyes and ears open, make friends and stay active here, you'll have a good chance to get who and what you're after in time. I always say it's good to talk to as many people as possible in a hobby, that way you have more people helping you look for things you want and you can do the same for them. I wouldn't have half the girls I do now if it weren't for friends/enablers helping me out.

But you know you have a good source already for all your DD info.

I BLAME BALDYLOX TOO!!!!!!! LOL .

A picture of Manami was the one who made me wanted to get a DD and the first DD i ever saw in pictures. I found the picture in flickr by accident. All those sexy pictures he took made me fall in love with the DDdy body. I also thought they were more heavy and when I got my Panchita I was surprise because she was lighter than my msd girl. She is very fun to play with. I love posing her and taking pictures of her. She is the one who gets more love from me than my other resin dollies.

But if I hadn't found resin BJD first I would have never knew about DDs. I'm so happy because I finally have the sculpt of the first bjd I ever saw in pictures. My iplehouse Jerome.

I wanted to get another DD I even had the money to buy the head, but I accidentally had the fortune to find my dream resin doll head and bought her instead. She is a limited edition sculpt so I think I will stop with her may be...... for a while. Right now I'm saving very hard to get her body and also I like my Panchita as a only DD because I think that make her more special. I hope some day to have the money to buy her lots of cool outfits. So far I found her more fun to dress that my resin kids.

About DoA I love the marketplace and that I can share my resin girls there, but I like this forum better because everybody in here is more friendly and nice. I have meet lots of AWESOME people in here. They also have help me to learn more about the DD hobby.

Wow..... I had no idea. I'm extremely flattered that Manami was the one who made you want a DDdy and led to you to getting Panchita. Thank you so much for letting me know! She will be pleased to hear that.

I'm glad you got into the hobby and I'm glad you joined up here. I think it's great that we can share these stories with each other here and have fun with our girls in photos and stories. I agree that the atmosphere here is so nice compared to other doll places. It's basically my second home.

Personally I find the limited nature of most Dollfie Dreams and their hugely inflated aftermarket price to be one of the main barriers of entries to buying a DD. Plus there's the fact that most (read: limited) DDs only come fullset, which further ups their purchase price. I mean, there are many DDs that I love but have no hope of getting within my price range (oh Beato...).

Maybe as Volks expands their basic head range we'll see more DD owners? I know the 07 head is the first standard head I've ever really loved.
