MrFjmg03 Posted January 12, 2013 Wow..... I had no idea. I'm extremely flattered that Manami was the one who made you want a DDdy and led to you to getting Panchita. Thank you so much for letting me know! She will be pleased to hear that. I'm glad you got into the hobby and I'm glad you joined up here. I think it's great that we can share these stories with each other here and have fun with our girls in photos and stories. I agree that the atmosphere here is so nice compared to other doll places. It's basically my second home. Billy I was sure I had told you before . That's the reason I'm so infatuated with Manami LOL I actually considered getting a HDD-01 for my first DD because I wanted to recreated my own Manami. But then HDD-03 won me over. Personally I find the limited nature of most Dollfie Dreams and their hugely inflated aftermarket price to be one of the main barriers of entries to buying a DD. Plus there's the fact that most (read: limited) DDs only come fullset, which further ups their purchase price. I mean, there are many DDs that I love but have no hope of getting within my price range (oh Beato...). Maybe as Volks expands their basic head range we'll see more DD owners? I know the 07 head is the first standard head I've ever really loved. I agree with you 100%. I have lots of limited girls that I really like. But the price is a deal killer for me. I don't see myself paying more than $700 for a DD or any BJD for that matter. I could eat tons of delicious food with that kind of money I pay almost $700 for my dream bjd and I feel very guilty about it and I'm paying her in layaway. If I had a better job or the economy wasn't that bad right now maybe I would risk it.

SisterKyoya Posted January 13, 2013 I've posted a little in the MDD thread and watch one of the resin threads, but that's it. Coming from someone who can easily ramble on for pages is kinda saying something. Personally they seem very unfriendly. One wrong move and WHAM they get after you like a ton of bricks. (At least it feels that way.) I have tried looking around on there but I can't get over how intimidating it feels. ~Siter Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
KittyFields Posted January 13, 2013 I rarely post in discussion threads on DoA. It really is like talking to a wall most of the time (I get the feeling many other DoAers feel this way too). Pretty much the only time I will post in a discussion thread is when discussing a new release. The only time I felt someone was acting unfriendly towards me was when I pulled out of a custom order thread and the person hosting it went psycho on me in a PM because I was ruining all her plans; in fact, she even said really nasty things in that thread to other potential participants (needless to say THAT order didn't go through). Then again, I've seen things get pretty heated in the debate/general discussion threads (I mostly stay out of that area).
Ara Posted January 13, 2013 I posted a time in the DD thread and had no problem, but I had this wall feeling with other discussion threads already. Many of the specific ones for certain dolls/companies are consisting of people that post there for an already long time, talking and discussing with each other. So if you are new it's hard to just step in and take part of the discussion

mistyaera Posted January 14, 2013 I never tried posting in the DD discussion thread personally. I used to participate very actively in the Volks MSD thread back when I collected them and had pretty good experience with Iplehouse JIDs, too... but (resin speaking) Volks SD threads and Minifee threads scared me a lot. D: I finally got recognized in the minifee thread, but it took a long time of posting and I can see how people give up. Volks SD... I think I asked a simple question and was completely ignored (had this happen in a Switch thread, too). So umm... yeah. I'm not going to try the dollfie dream discussion threads. I like the atmosphere of this place a lot + flickr. I rarely go on DoA at all anymore just due to how people treat each other. Yes, people are rarely outright rude/mean, but being ignored isn't a good feeling. :[ I was pretty much one of the only people ever welcoming people when I finally got established in threads... It was really a sad sight to see how self-absorbed people were on a forum. FYI, I have nothing against DoA. I love a lot of aspects of it. But I never understood ignoring people who had questions especially if they were new/fans of the company. I'm so lucky I got into DDs with a very kind friend who helped answer everything I needed. :3 [i found the saving up waiting room was very friendly when I was first discussing, but I don't know how they treat DDs in there, and it's not the same group anymore.] Nothing here ~ Left the Hobby Previously Loved: Rise, Mariko, Yuki M., Haruka N., Aoko, Rin
Shailara Posted January 18, 2013 Well, I post a lot on DoA and rarely get ignored...maybe because I usually answer people's questions instead of just spamming? Lol. I think it depends on the thread though. in the Minifee thread, it is easy to get ignored, true. But like, other threads like Switch, Crobidoll, Luts etc. that there are a lot less members that post in them, it's easier to have a chit chat or have your answers instead of getting ignored. I haven't posted in the DD thread much though, since I still have no DD here. I wasn't ignored though, was pretty fine. >_<; mistyaera is your avatar drawn by ClainDeLune? Soenatte Posted January 18, 2013 Hmmm... well; I'm quite active on DoA myself and I rarely get ignored. However if I am it sort-of turns me off the thread for a while if not for good. Discussion in the Fairyland MNF thread is deemed impossible by me, even if you're more well-known. Every other person just storms in all the time, spam random pictures then run out of the window all the time. I'll have to second Shailara that there are several threads that are a lot more inviting. I'm a regular of the Crobidoll threads and forever lurk on the Luts threads though I don't post much. Both are just wonderful however and everyone is friendly and nice. As for the DD thread, I don't post much on it... or rather I want to and sometimes I forget. That aside I've never been ignored there despite being a "newbie" of sorts. Cauldroness Posted January 18, 2013 Hmm, I must be some kind of oddball. I generally assume that I won't have a response to any of my posts, and consider it to be a pleasant surprise when I do get some kind of reply. But then again, I'm probably one of the people who also does the "ignoring," as I generally only post if I feel like I can contribute knowledge (so I never post "welcome" or "nice to meet you" type things). I guess I feel like I'm not owed a reply and I don't owe anyone else a reply, so I don't find DoA to be particularly unfriendly. Doll Photos & Doll Jewelry Sales: Follow me on Instagram! Yuan Posted January 18, 2013 Same here honestly, I don't expect anyone to respond to me and generally I'm too lazy or preoccupied to greet people. It's pretty nice if someone replies to what I have to say but in those large doll brand posts it's pretty easy to get lost. I always had good experiences and discussions in the waiting room threads though~.
Singer Yuna Posted January 18, 2013 . I like the atmosphere of this place a lot + flickr. I rarely go on DoA at all anymore just due to how people treat each other. Idem. Oh oh! I recently managed to get the 40 posts and tried the marketplace and I felt a little weird answering the bot for creating the wig sales xD all like a survey lol xD Ah I also got my first alert lol xD The main problem I have with that forum is that I don't know where to post my doll photoshoots (in case I can)... I felt very weird creating my first post with the wig sales (then I created the clothing sales and it was like normal posting and not survey-like) but I really want to put my photos in the gallery... the problem is that I'm afraid of other alert xD
Cauldroness Posted January 18, 2013 Huh, what did you get an alert for? I've never gotten one before. I know you can get it if you are selling items, and then post photos of those items outside of the marketplace. You need to put a 1-2 months between posting gallery photos and then selling those items. Doll Photos & Doll Jewelry Sales: Follow me on Instagram!

No, it was because I asked for taobao help on finding a volks fake outfit, and it was like promoting bootlegs or so and was deleted ^^ (I hope this rule doesn't work here or I should edit my post ^^ and my doubt is still unsolved btw) Did you ever posted a DD gallery on doa, Cauldroness? May I see it if yes? (And that rule of photoshoots of selling items xDDD I didn't notice it... it is logic that if you tell in the gallery "AND I'M SELLING THEM" you get alerted, but nobody should know if the items are on sales or not... i'm wondering who revise that xD)
Cauldroness Posted January 18, 2013 Oh yeah, DoA is pretty snarly about bootlegs -- which I kind of understand. Some other communities have gotten really divided and angry and generally unpleasant because of that issue, and honestly the DoA mods have enough crud to wade through without adding that to the mix. I can see why they want to avoid all hint of it. I wonder where hideall of those bootlegers xDDD maybe will be an invitation over another invitation and then after reaching +1000 posts they summon you to the dark side through a looking glass... @Cauldroness!!! I have tried looking around on there but I can't get over how intimidating it feels. Sweet fancy peaches yes... big forum needs a big team to manage it, but I think sometimes they are just *too* heavy-handed with their punishments/declaration.. especially if it's a first offense and one that anyone could accidentally do. If the situation was different and it was an inperson club and I accidentally mentioned something that was against the rules, would they really smack me and say "OK THAT'S IT - YOU CAN'T ACCESS OUR CLUB (usually the MP which hurts and they know it) FOR A MONTH - It's against our rules posted way over there on the wall" It makes me too paranoid to really even bother to talk with people there. I'm thankful for this forum as it's a friendlier atmosphere for DDs I think. I've met some resin owners who kind of look down on vinyls, which makes no sense to me, but whatever.. some people just want to create elitism... SisterKyoya Posted January 19, 2013 I try to post on the MDD thread as soon as I can when someone has a question I can answer, but it rarely seems to be visited. Last post was a couple of weeks ago and then a month before that. Every once in a while I try to pep-talk myself to venture out in the threads I can access, but I'm a very easily intimidated person in most cirbleepstances. I love being places where my dolls (DD and otherwise) are valued, but DOA feels like there is invisible signs everywhere that say KEEP OUT! We don't want you here! Sure I could take the effort to venture beyond the handful of threads I have visited, but it would be emotionally exhausting trying to carve out my little space where people might care, even a little, what I have to say. I originally wanted to just access tutorials and other similar info, but trying to find anything on there... I can't make heads or tales of it. Anymore when I think about DOA it just makes me appreciate what a wonderful place we have already. It is just a happy place here, something that DOA can't compare to in my eyes. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Midori_Keiko Posted January 19, 2013 I have had no real problems with DOA, that being said I am more a lurker than a poster. I found that here people are more friendly and are willing to respond to questions in a thoughtful and polite manner. I mentioned to my partner about the dynamics of this forum versus DOA and even he who is not a doll collector, said he wasn't surprised with DOA reputation. He was very delight I was to participate in a pleasant forum. Home~ Yuki (DD Yukino ) Wishing for: Akira, Mio, Kanu, Saber
Yuan Posted January 21, 2013 Honestly, despite my issues with the largeness of the forum and how strict it is I've never found the rules difficult to comply with. I've never gotten in trouble there, I still lurk the marketplace and to see what's changed.
