medalis Posted January 1, 2016 Oh man, Transformers! I used to have a rather large collection of primarily Deluxe-class figures, mostly from TFA and 3rd Party, probably about 25 figures in total. I've chunked it down to a few of the ones I really adore, mostly composed of a variety of Unicrons (my absolute favourite character, mind you), one Primus, a TFA Oilslick, a TFA Japanese Blackarachnia, a TFP Shockwave, a Third Party Fallen, and a absolutely gorgeous Third Party Galvatron. There's also a Windblade in there that I haven't sold yet, and a TFA Arcee I plan on giving to a friend because he really likes her design. I don't plan on expanding my collection much anytime soon, as I'm a tad bit upset with Hasbro as to their current production values and the quality of the toys they've been putting out. The Combiner Wars figures have been something of a cream to soothe that burn, at least, but maybe I'm just too picky. I saw a absolutely adorable third party Tailgate I might pick up someday, but, first, I gotta take care of my resins and my vinyls. (That being said, if Unicron does show up in the new movies, I'm totally putting everyone else on hold to get that figure. All of them.) Galvatim Posted March 2, 2017 This thread needs more pics! Decepticon recolor of Tracks. That classic moment, when Shockwave rode on Starscream... Third party Mirage. I had vintage Mirage, so a Masterpiece version of him was a must have in my collection. "Perfection Series Sphinx" fits the bill. Macross Frontier YF-29. Not really a TF, but Jetfire started life as a VF-1 toy... I had that original, VF-1 based Jetfire, too. So this Arcadia VF-1S Strike Valkyrie is a real treat. Now if Takara would just get around to a Masterpiece version of a certain purple space cannon...
Gabriel Posted March 2, 2017 Is that VF-25 general machine basically like a Renewal VF-25? If I've researched correctly, it's a later release, so it should have the fixes. I've been eyeing one for a while.
Galvatim Posted March 2, 2017 Yeah, the VF-25A is a renewal version, so no fear of the issues plaguing Bandai's early versions of the VF-25. Ranka approves. I picked up a set of super parts for it, too... Michael's, since that's the cheapest set on Manda...
Gabriel Posted March 10, 2017 I decided to go for the Alto version of the VF-25 Renewal. I'm eyeing some super armor. The heavy armor pack seems to go for more than the plane, which gets priced pretty high anyway. In Transformer land, I'm waiting on a Masterpiece Thrust. I also pre-ordered Dirge. Those two were my original Seeker jets from back in the day. I still have my original Thrust. Dirge has a replacement body, but I'm going to count it as I still have my original of him too. I also have a G1 Thundercracker, but he was a later acquisition (and thus why he's still in extremely good condition). Otherwise, I was missing Transforming robots and decided to pick up some Titans Return stuff. Overall, I think Combiner Wars and Titans Return have been pretty good mass market Transformers. Soundwave is my favorite mass market version of the toy since the original. I've never been a fan of Sixshot, but his TR toy is just neat. I can't wait for the new version of Blitzwing that the TR version of Megatron is using. Galvatim Posted March 10, 2017 Thanks for the pics! Sixshot looks pretty cool. I've been buying most of the Titans Return figures, but I haven't picked up any of the leader class releases besides Takara's Super Ginrai. I'm looking forward to getting Godbomber to combine with him. The leader class Soundwave looks nice, but I already have the MP. Same deal with the Seekers. My favorite TR figure, though, is Galvatron, despite his flaws. I have Mania King, which looks a little cooler, but the TR Galvy feels far more durable, and I'm not worried that I'll break it or stab myself when transforming the toy. I've got MP Grapple and Legends/Headmasters/whatever Lio Convoy on the way to me now. I'm feeling kind of burnt out on the Masterpiece line, however. I skipped Inferno, due to the heavy cartoon influenced design, which left the toy looking plain. Megatron ver. 2 doesn't look worth more than $150, and I like Beast Convoy, but not enough to buy a repaint to get accessories that should've just come with the first version. Gabriel Posted March 11, 2017 My favorite TR figure, though, is Galvatron, despite his flaws. I have Mania King, which looks a little cooler, but the TR Galvy feels far more durable, and I'm not worried that I'll break it or stab myself when transforming the toy. I understand the sentiment. Soundwave is one of my personal holy trinity of favorite Transformers (Soundwave, Shockwave, Jetfire). My original G1 figure is too fragile these days to regularly handle. While I have a Takara MP Soundwave, I don't feel comfortable roughhousing with it. So, the Titans Return figure is a good solution. It's a figure which really evokes the characteristics of the G1 version I love which I can also handle casually. As for Masterpiece versions, I'm extremely torn on them. MP Soundwave is fantastic, and there are other MPs I'd like. But they do seem to be a bit overpriced, and consequently other things tend to be higher on my priority list than MP Transformers. Galvatim Posted March 16, 2017 Man, MP Grapple is amazing! Decent alt mode, good robot mode, amazing engineering in how the crane arm folds up and hides in the torso. Lio Convoy is cool, but not as good as the original or Robot Masters versions. But Grapple! Grapple is awesome. He comes with a ton of stuff, too. 4 faces, 2 helmets (one of which is all orange), Cartoon style low detail chest/front bumper, a claw and a bucket to swap with the hook... And even a little solar tower model! There's also a nice little blueprint of the solar tower stuck in with the instruction manual. I love this goofy grinning face. The only thing I don't like is how simplified the design is. Lots of plain, flat orange surfaces. I'm sure the inevitable Repro Label kit will add a lot to Grapple, but I'm not a fan of the toon heavy leanings of the Masterpiece line of late. It's why I skipped Inferno. Galvatim Posted August 3, 2017 God Ginrai is really cool. I've got the giftset on preorder, along with the Hasbro version of Super Ginrai. I'll kit out one of them with the Perfect Effect add-on kits. Striker Noir (3rd party Scourge) is pretty cool, too. Action Toy is making these nifty Machine Robo toys, which are about as close to updated GoBots as we're likely to see. Leader One here is about deluxe size. Great jet mode. Orion Pax! I'm not planning to get every Optimus/Convoy related Titans Return release, but I wanted this Kup redeco as soon as I saw it. Looks pretty good with the Ehobby G1 version. It'd be nice to have a modern style Barrel Roller, but what we really need is Wheelie recolored into Dion.
Gabriel Posted August 12, 2017 My most recent Transformers acquisitions are some Hasbro Titans Return deluxes. I recently passed on picking up a Titans Return Perceptor. I'm kinda regretting it. I'm waiting on my PC-16 Perfect Effect kit to get here so I have a little Optimus to go with my Titans Return Powermaster Optimus. Of course, I also ordered a Siege on Cybertron so I could get the Ginrai version of the main figure, which I should have ordered in the first place. I'm really looking forward to Power of the Primes and new Predaking, Abominus, Darkwind, and Dreadwing figures. In other Transformable toy realms, I've been intending to do a "class photo" of all my Macross Valkyries in battloid mode. All of them are transformed and ready to go except for my VF-19 Advance (which is simply a bear to work with) and my VF-2SS (which may never hold together again in jet mode if I transform it to battloid). Galvatim Posted August 12, 2017 TR Perceptor is pretty cool. I ordered the Takara version, so that Mari can keep one. PC-16 is a really nice figure. I did try him out in combined mode, but I found the Godbomber chest armor didn't attach as well as the stock cab, and I really wanted the PC-16 out to play around with anyway. I might switch the cabs again after I get the other 2 versions of Ginrai (Hasbro's and the Takara giftset). I got the Reprolabels Action Master Optimus kit, as well as their Galvatron kit, and the latest wave of TR deluxe class (Windblade, Twin Twist, and Misfire), too. Power of the Primes looks fun, I'm looking forward to getting Dreadwind and Darkwing, and hopefully Takara recolors into Hydra and Buster. And Predaking is going to be awesome! I spent a year or so scrounging up the G1 set, be far the best combiner of the original series.
Gabriel Posted August 24, 2017 Got my Siege on Cybertron set the other day. After applying my PC-15 and PC-16 sets to Magnus Prime, I finally have a semi-reasonable facsimilie of the updated Powermaster Prime figure I wanted. It's far from perfect, but it at least partially works. Kinda digging Tidal Wave and the Thunderwing headmaster. The carrier mode of Tidal Wave looks a bit better in hand than it does in pictures, and kind of like Astrotrain, Tidal Wave may not look like much but is pretty fun to play with. Thunderwing makes a neat head for him too. I really wish they had made the carrier mold a leader class (at minimum), though. I gave Pounce and Metalhawk to my partner. Metalhawk looked neat with all the paint, but I already had Triggerhappy and didn't want another of that mold. Pounce is one of my partner's G1 figures, so that one was always destined to go to him. Actually, I was a bit disappointed by Pounce. That disappointment may cause me to cancel my pre-order for the Autobot clone set. Blitzwing and Octone should arrive by next week. Trying to decide if I can swing the 1/3000 Arcadia SDF-1.
Galvatim Posted August 25, 2017 I just got the Siege on Cybertron set, too. Magnus Prime seems to have better joint tolerances than Super Ginrai does, and I have him combined with Godbomber now. I'm actually pretty happy with this mold as an update to God Ginrai. Tidal Wave is cool, although I agree, he should be bigger. I'd love a giant Titan class Tidal Wave, but I also love that old PS2 TF: Armada game with level taking place inside Tidal Wave and ending with a fight against his robot form. I'm happy to have Metalhawk, but I also just bought a second Getaway and a Reprolabels set to turn him into Masterforce character GoShooter. Punce is all right, but the Clones really should be deluxe size. Thunderwing really needs a leader class figure. I'd be happy with a retool of Sky Shadow/Overlord, although the Power of the Primes deluxe-combines-with-trailer leader class gimmick would replicate the vintage toy in a way. For now, I'm trying to find Nitro from the new TF movie series, as he has a Titanmaster port in his neck. Should be a decent body for Thunderwing.
Galvatim Posted October 3, 2017 Got a box with a few new Transformers today. Takara Transformers Legends Hot Rod, Kup and Sharkticon. I also picked up an extra Scourge on Amazon, since Takara packed a retooled Sweep head with the Sharkticon. The colors match better with Takara's release of Scourge, but I skipped that one. Oh, I did manage to get the Titans Returns Arcee from Hasbro Toy Shop. Nice figure, she goes great with these guys. Takara's Kup (left) really captures the G1 toy and cartoon look. Thunderwing Titanmaster on the movie Nitro body. Not bad. I'm hoping for a Reprolabel kit. My upgraded Nightbeat is nearly complete, just need to ship Pile of Loot on BBTS to get the Takara Headmaster figure with better paint and matching blue. Gabriel Posted October 5, 2017 I prefer the colors on Takara Hot Rod. The little panel to cover up the chest holes is good too. I like Nitro's jet mode. It's the only movie figure I've ever been tempted to get. I think I'll stick to classics, though. Titans Return Blitzwing and Octone are probably my last Titans Return figures and my last Transformers for a while. Blitzwing is... kind of disappointing. It's all because of the tolerances on the toy. It has problems the TR Megatron didn't. On the plus side, he looks very G1. I'd say he's kind of like the Thrilling 30 version, a good figure but flawed. Here he is with his predecessors: Octone is... suprisingly awesome. He's a cool figure which manages to look good in every mode. Even jet mode is neat, despite truck bits hanging off the side. I seldom add a new character to my lineup of prefered Transformers, but I think Octone just joined the club. Here he is with his brothers in arms: But yeah, I'm done with Transformer collecting until Power of the Primes, and a new job. Predaking, Abominius, Darkwind/Dreadwing, Rodimus Prime, and combiner Dinobots await! It's going to be pricey, but fun. In other transforming toy stuff going on with me... I finally took the group picture of most of my Macross variable fighters: The VF-19 Advance and VF-2SS SAP didn't make the image because I was too lazy to transform them to battloid. And then there's my new baby I've been spamming everywhere since I'm so happy with it, my Macross VF-31C Mirage type: I still have my 1/3000 SDF-1 pre-order. But I'm kind of miffed I have to pass up on the VF-31A pre-order tomorrow.
Tasuke Posted March 13, 2018 fellow MACROSS fan here. i was introduced to Anime, more-or-less, when i saw a single episode of the SDFM portion of ROBOTECH as a very young boy sometime on 1985/'86. a nephew had the "ROBOTECH CHANGERS VEXAR" U.S. market edition of the 1/72 IMAI/BANDAI transformable VF-1S model kit, and, around 1989 or so, he gave it to me along with a bunch of toys, models and other such he was outgrowing. he did a VERY lousy job on that model, i recall, and, being a rather ham-handed boy of around eight at the time, the relatively delicate VF-1S model did not last long in my hands. still, it was a start, -a start i never quite forgot- and decades later, i have a fine little MACROSS VF collection, built around the BANDAI 1990 reissue of that old model kit that almost singlehandedly started it all;

Gabriel Posted March 30, 2018 I've got a complete Volcanicus set now (Power of the Primes Dinobot team combiner). I think I liked it better when I was using Grimlock, Swoop, Slug, DeadEnd, and Blades as the combined form. The other two dinobots are fine. It's just that I fell out of love with the figure after I got the whole intended team together. I got Dreadwind and Blackwing. They look fine individually, but I'm disappointed because their combined mode doesn't stay together. Tilting the combined jet at all results in whichever part isn't being held plopping on the floor. All it does is make me miss my G1 versions of the figures. I also got Rodimus Prime. I kinda dig him. He's not a favorite figure, but he is probably the most fun to fiddle with of any of the other recent ones. I have Rippersnapper. He's fun, but I think it's more because I'm disappointed with the other recent figures than any great merit he has on his own. Plus, I'm excited about Abominus. Still, Rippersnapper is liking his new home a bit because he gets to hang out with a To Heart 2 Sasara bunnygirl figure I got at about the same time he arrived. I have a Hun-Gurrr and Elita-1 on order. Who knows when Big Bad Toy Store will ship. Basically everyone who waited for those two to appear in stores already has the two figures, but since I pre-ordered on BBTS, I get to wait. I also pre-ordered a Power Baser from BBTS (third party Powermaster Optimus Prime). Maybe that will ship before doomsday. I saw the preview images of PotP Predaking. I think I'll be happy with it. On the Macross side of things, I did get that SDF-1. I also have a VF-31A on order that's in the midst of shipping as I'm typing this.
