Hello, everyone! I've decided to try to obtain a MDD, after a couple of years!

I currently own two resin MSD girls--but I still want a MDD.

 

I've asked around on DoA about DDs, and I was told to come here for help and to lurk.

So. Here I am!

I'm debating on getting a MDD body from the US VOLKS site and head from SQ Lab or just the new MDD girl on the JP VOLKS site. I can't choose, but I really like this one face-up on the SQ Lab. She just looks so pouty! And I'm excited for the clothes thing, too. I won't have to buy her too many new things. ;D

Hm, for me I prefer the bigger size. But the size also means they are harder to carry around. I also have a MSD and Yo and because of their weight and size, I can easily pop them into my bag to take them out.

 

It really depends on the person as I know others like me who prefer the SD size while there are also others who prefer the minis and tinies and can't do any SDs. If there is a certain SD sculpt that you like but you aren't sure about the size, you can trying playing/handling one at a local meet to see how you feel.

We have a really close-knit doll group here where we all meet really often. We have big meets every other month or so and then small gatherings/hang out all the time.

 

I know going to meets the first time can be really daunting. Especially if the first meet you go to is a big one, but it can be really fun! And from my experience, everyone is really nice and welcoming of new members.

I need to get a doll carrier. Well, I don't need one but it would be nice, since my fiance and I like to take our girls out for pictures, and carrying them around in your hands can be both embarrassing and difficult. All the ones I have found are so expensive though! Any tips on where to find one?

But in a different color. Shipping for big items like these can get pretty pricey. I was lucky though and ordered it with a GO where we had enough items to reach free shipping. Keep an eye out for dollmore GOs, it can save you quite a bit!

 

Dollmore has a really good selection for fair prices and they have carriers for MSD sizes too.

I've also seen people making their own carriers. It doesn't have to be anything fancy. Just any bag that is big enough, pad it with the doll pillows and you can transport them in there.

When taking many dolls to a meet, some even use carry-on suitcases.

 

As for myself, I only use the carrier if I want to bring more than 2 SDs to a meet. Otherwise, I tend to just sit them in a big bag. XD

I'll state that the folks here are awesome! I've only been to one meet so far, and we didn't have any troubles.

If you can hook up with a few others, it's like a support group for all of you.

I've seen a few of the folks using a large backpack, so maybe that might work? (side pockets for cameras and stuff?)

 

I carried a backpack for my camera and accessories, a tripod in one hand, Tana in the other and a Dragon on my head for my first meet! (More than a handful, I assure you!)

It didn't hurt that poofiemus, animagic4u, kymaera, cryx and scripple were with me then! (a major support group, even if I was the oldest!

We had a blast, so I suggest you hook up with anyone within travelling distance and give it a try, you'll love it!

Yes. I convinced him that dolls were cool by making him watch 'The Doll Master'. Good movie.

That's what got me into dolls in the first place, as well. So I thought it'd work on him.

Yes, so far everyone has been very nice and even more so helpful. I already like this place a lot better then DoA. No one there really helped me with anything, and when they did it was a bit cold. The only really nice people I met suggested I come here for DD stuff.

 

I've gone out with my fiance and our friend before with dolls, no bag though. Carrying my sorry excuse for a camera (iTouch), and my two dolls was difficult for me, so I can't even imagine how hard it must've been to carry everything you had! I felt bad though, I was embarrassed. I live in a city, so it's pretty busy--and a lot of people gave us the most rude of looks. Some young punk even came up and asked to take my picture, but not of 'the ugly doll' and when I declined he said 'so you'll take pictures of those dolls but I can't have a picture of you?' Maybe it's because I'm shy but, it was a bit scary taking dolls out. I was worried someone would mess with them. But, you're right--it would probably feel better to go out in a larger group like how you did. That sounds a lot better!

It is a very handy carrier. I can fit everything inside. I've had 2 SDs, msd/yo and my DSLR inside before. It was like carrying bricks, but it makes it easier. Though of course I wouldn't recommend doing that when taking public transport or walking long distances!

 

The quality of dollmore stuff are decent for their prices. Their clothes are more affordable and they have a big selection. Their free shipping for buying a certain amount also helps a lot.

Hm, for meets I can only speak from my experience. It might be different at other places.

In the past, the doll meets we had weren't usually very often or very long (only lasting a few hours or half a day). Everyone would group their dolls together in one place and then mingle around and take photos. We'd generally talk about dolls and other similar chit chat and get to know people more.

 

For past year or so though, we had a sudden increase in doll owners. Especially in DDs. And we've been having meets almost monthly. Since the number of meets increased, everyone got to know each other and their dolls much better so we all got really close. A lot of us now hang out when dolls aren't even involved!

 

For our big meets now, same thing happens. We would group our dolls together and mingle and take photos. We also play board games and other party games. Everyone would bring some snacks and drinks to munch on at the meet. At themed meets (e.g., the Halloween meet we just had), the host would make contests like photo contests or costume contests. Our big meets tend to last the whole day from early afternoon until evening.

I've been to a panel one of my friends was able to run at Tekkoshocon last year. I felt very out of place though and nobody would talk to me. Then again I didn't have my doll and was in Haruhi cosplay...

 

Yeah I heard there was a sudden increase in owners! Someone on DoA told me I picked a bad time to get into DD because of that. They were like 'good luck finding one that you want for a reasonable price!' That scared me a bit, and it's true though! I'm having such a difficult time. Getting my two resin girls wasn't nearly this difficult! It's so overwhelming because of how expensive they are.

This Tuesday?! Augh nooo! That stupid WestBorough Baptist Church is going to be protesting a Military funeral back on my home street where my family lives that same day. I'll be in Johnstown trying to help the family cope with the protesters and to see my dad who is currently in the Marines...

No problem! This Tuesday is kinda short notice. That happened to me, too. I finally got an invite to DoA and found the Pittsburgh meeting thread on the night it was to happen that month. So I had to wait til the next month. It's cool if you can't come this time, though. We'll still be there the second Tuesday of next month.

The re-sale value of DDs are certainly much higher than the re-sale value for most resins, but if you buy it from volks directly, they are actually cheaper than what volks bjds go for. Even the limited. If you want a 2nd hand limited, of course the price rockets.

 

If you aren't set on a certain limited, you can go for the volks HDD heads. Or even one of the standard models, Aoi or Yukino.

My girl, Ran, is actually a HDD-06(DDH-06) on a second hand DDdy body. She just cost me $230 to put together.

The DDH heads that volks sells should fit on the MDD body as well. You can always try looking for secondhand bodies as well.

 

Well, the price of a new blank HDD06 head from volks is just around $50 (http://www.volksusa.com/hdd06eo.html). I managed to nab a secondhand DDdy body for $175 only.

My friend got the 06 head as well and put her on a MDD body and the match looks great too.

 

I did the face-up myself on my girl, so that saved me a bit of money. ^^
