How do you all decide?

So Has anyone planned on making their girls into a certain character from any anime but also realized by just looking at the dollfie before purchase she has a name already that just came to you and you can't get it out of your head? For instance the Miko character model I want just strikes me as a certain personality and name yet I wanted to make her Kurumu from rosario Vampire...but how do you decide which to keep as a regular personality? Maybe she will just cosplay as kurumu? some input from you guys would be nice please!

I'd say wait until she arrives.

More than once I've thought up what I think the doll will be "like" and then the internal story I develop is 180 degrees from that original intention.

For me this is overwhelmingly true. I started with Tamayuki and he's the closest to what I originally thought he would be like, but his personality is mostly based around making people happy so he's generally pretty adaptable. He seems to be more the exception to the rule.

Naiomi on the other hand is very much like I wanted her to be, but quite by accident she discovered she has at least a little bit of magic ability. I was planning on having a magical girl, but it was not intended to be her. I stubbornly told her that she was not supposed to have magic and I didn't want to allow it, as if her wanting her own theater wasn't enough. (So far it seems she is ignoring me on the subject.) There was another sculpt I thought would be the best for an iconic "rampaging and clueless" magical girl. Now that I've been given the chance to get her, she still has some magical connections, the rest of her personality can't even pretend to be the same. She isn't even here yet but I love her so much more than I ever imagined I would. Even her eye color is not what I would have expected and I have yet to discover the wig she is looking for (I may end up needing to make it) despite finding plenty of really nice ones.

In my experience so far, deciding on a set personality for a girl is great and gives you a way of understanding who your girl is. On the other hand they may just take it as a guideline of who they might be, or they could ignore you altogether. That's one of the things that make them so fun, because when they start telling you about themselves their personality begins to have real depth, instead of being a flat 2D ideal version of a personality stereotype.

Hm that is really great advice guys! Thanks. I guess I am just too excited to get my girl home that I just don't know what to do! Hopefully I will be able to get her soon and we'll super bond!

For me, everything about my girl was pre-planed. I felt I already knew her, even before I purchaced the head for her. I'm the kind of person that creates a character and bonds with them the moment their personality hits the paper. I used to write a lot of short stories. Trust me, there alot of voices up there in my head. XD

I had plans for my MDD, but ended up with something really different. I'm super happy with my girl though she's even cuter than I planned.

These kids frequently manage to come up with their own ideas as to personality. And even when you think you've got them nailed down they can evolve on you in unexpected directions.

Too true! Let your Kiddo be herself, and you might be pleasantly surprised at how she develops!

*Just be there to support her, and all will be well.*

I sorta feel that way too to be honest. I feel like I've already bonded with her and have a story for her but maybe it will change when I get here like the others say

I do have to say that there is nothing wrong with already knowing your girl before you actually see her in person. I am so fascinated by what I have already seen with my DD kids, sometimes when you finally get to know them it's like meeting someone you feel like you've always known (or a part of yourself you had forgotten). Other times they can take you by complete surprise and have such unexpected and clear personalities that you wonder how you could have ever thought they were any different. This is why I love the DD so much. There is just something magical about them.

For my custom girl (there will be an intro story for her soon!), she's actually based on a character that I've literally been writing about for years in various stories. I just had to find a head sculpt, eyes, etc that fit the character. Of course, she's not 100% what I imagined in my head because, well, she's a DD. She's not supposed to be an anime character but all DDs have an anime sort of aesthetic. But since I specifically built her to have the personality that she has always had in my stories, so far she hasn't changed much.

Most people seem to develop stories for their dolls as they go though, to see what seems right once they arrive.

Are you ready to rock? ^_^
