Healthy Doll Community

Recommended Posts

I have been in the Dollfie Dream hobby for a bit over two years now, and has hung out at a number of DD forums & boards(thou I may not be the most active in posts, but I do enjoy reading and viewing beautiful pictures taken by everyone).

DollfieDreams.com i do have to comment that is the MOST healthy doll community out there. Yes I understand that sex sells, and DDs are all female dolls who allow the user to customize their "ideal" body figure. I see a lot of female DD collections out there too who will do bust upgrades, peach-pies or equivalent, and enjoys DDDy.. almost all of which are either for the pose-ability of certain types of body, or the extra curves just simply brings the most out of the fashion of their choice. For male collectors, even I do enjoy taking a sexy shot if the outfit, lighting, or even story behind the photos to create "Beauty" in photography. But there are other forums and boards out there that are just filled with people who the ONLY focus in their photos are busts and a$$ cracks. Most of their photos, they dress and pose their dolls like porn magazines... now there are differences between a sexy shot (like Idol photo sets), and there are adult magazines where the ONLY point in the shot was to expose. What is the point? Are they that doll horny I'm really disgust by such boards/forums.. Yes, the internet is a public place, and people can post what ever they wish, so I will just choose to stop visiting such places...

Sorry, just wanted to vent again.. and I really want to thank everyone here for offering a healthy doll community.

I know what you're saying. Sadly a few months ago here I felt this place was taking that same race to bottom as more and more posts became clearly not safe work, and without a warning system in place. With the rule, subtle as it, in place it does seem to have reduced the amount of such things.

This is the only Dollfie community I've been in but I love it here. It's almost drama-free and everyone is very friendly and mature. No one puts anyone down and everyone learns to appreciate one another.

Thank you everyone for making this place an awesome experience.

Very much agreed, Otakusan!

I haven't really spent much time in other doll communities, but I have been on a lot of other forums based around lots of other interests, like games, technology, politics, etc and this is definitely the friendliest and most civil I've found. I love the lack of drama, the politeness, and the supportiveness here. This really does feel like an extended family, although without the fistfights. In fact, the more time I spend here, the more disgusted I become with the other discussion groups I used to frequent, and find myself no longer going there.

I do, also appreciate the fact that this place hasn't become "penthouse" for dolls. Some occasional, tasteful, racy shots are fine, and even enjoyed, and the "informative" nude pics (ie the body comparison threads) are greatly appreciated, but I have seen on some other places, people who seem to see their dolls as the cheapest of porn stars and I just find that gross. I love the new(ish) NSFW tag. That helps a lot, but mostly, I think it's just the particular group that hangs out here that keeps things classy. Most of you are obviously people who truly care about your dolls, their personalities, and their image.

There also seem to ba a lot of people here who care about the overall image of DDs and DD owners in general. I know DDs have picked up a bit of a "reputation" among doll collectors, in no small part due to the kinds of things Otakusan wrote about. I'm really glad there here is a place that manages to rise above that and demonstrate that, if not the majority, at least a very significant minority of DD owners canhave fun with the dolls without being disgusting about it.

I also want to thank our mods for helping keep this a fun place to be I know their work behind the scenes does contribute quite a bit to the great atmosphere.

Oops, I'm starting to sound like SK. TL;Dr version... I love it here!

Same here.

I won't write wall of text because of language, but I feel mostly the same way.

I frequent one Polish forum but there are mostly resins. Is okay, and the level of drama is reasonably low.

DDs are in minority there (few users) but even then somehow we managed to change the overall image of them. Often prejudiced earlier like "these anime dolls with big racks". Somehow we don't have any DDdy here anymore, can You imagine that?

But now it's more like "these positive manga-faces"

If I manage to translate some my additional thoughts, I'll add something more...

I must admit, I partly have these dolls of course because of their aesthetics. It's the same with my resin dolls, for some I really enjoy having a good looking body and like to tastefully show them (I'm also fascinated by the human body, and if I had the opportunity would take tasteful artistic nude photos way often).

What I don't like are these photos where you can see EVERYTHING.

Stretched legs so you can see the private bits and such, and if you add a creepy comment to it ("Do you like that, daddy?") it just creeps me out.

Especially because it's common in the hobby to call your girls "daughter", the whole father x daughter thing makes it even worse in such case. I don't want to see a "daddy" that takes pictures of his "daughter's" pantyshot all the time and adds a creepy dialog to it too.

No matter how much I enjoy and adore my dolls, their looks and their bodies, the thought that someone would do something "nasty" with their dolls makes me sick.

I understand playful ecchi shootings, making the dolls wet etc. and let them look like models in a photoshooting, I also understand showing off their bodies to a certain grade (man, they HAVE pretty bodies!), but some people reaaaaally need to draw the line sometimes.

There is a huge difference between tasteful art and playing with Anime stereotypes, and downright sexual creepiness.

This, times a million. I thought I might have been the only person who found "sexy daughters" creepy. I have to agree with scripple about the fact that the NSFW tag had to be added , too -- there was a few months where it seemed like the only pics here were T&A shots, with not a whole lot else. I like the creativity of the doll hobby the most -- stories, creative shots with props, character creation and development. It seems like the NSFW tag has made people re-evaluate their content a bit, and perhaps think about whether the content they are posting is what they really want to post. In any case, I've found that recently the posts here have improved content-wise, and I'm really enjoying reading them.

Also, I have to say, this is one of the best groups of people on the internet. Everyone is helpful, understanding, and generous. There's way more drama on my knitting message boards! I couldn't ask for more with this site.

I can agree with all of this, too.

The few times I posted on DoA, I had that feeling of being looked down at. "Hmph, vinyl"

I honestly don't even know if my account is active there anymore.

The NSFW Tag was a great idea, even though it's rarely used.

(Although, I loved the "Great Boob - Off", It really wasn't risque enough to warrant it, imho)

I enjoy the fact that there's more cameraderie and support here and less of the drama that you see on other forums.

Heck, even figure.fm has it's occasional sniper taking shots at "Too many dollieh, not enough other stuff!"

Meh, that's why I'm leaning towards posting more pics here, anywhoo...

Just my few cents worth....

I wholeheartedly agree with the OP. I'm so happy to have found this place (with the help of Strife and Raptors, of course) where I can talk about my new-found hobby without feeling out of place. Everyone is nice, too. And it's just not a fake but actually a genuine nice.

I'm not a member of any other doll sites but I've browsed a few other communities and blogs... As an example of differences, I can say that I like how talking about a doll's eyes in this place actually does refer to their eyes. If you know what I mean.

It's all stylish doll fashion that interests me most and instead of undressing my doll, I keep looking for more outfits for her.

Here's a hoping that this site will stay as nice as it is now.

I love this forum for news, group orders and the discussion threads the most. I find it to be a very good all in one place resource for English speakers. I can't speak for the galleries here as I don't visit them really, I have other places I prefer for picture viewing and I'm not a fan of photo stories at all, never really have been, even back to my bjd days. I must admit, the days before the NSFW tag killed the pictures here for me because I just couldn't load the forum up anywhere around other people.

The only thing I dislike about here now is that, like most English speaking dd places after a certain popular someone started getting dolls a couple of years back, a lot of people refer to their dd as 'daughters' now. I really hate that, but you can't get away from it anywhere these days, so this place is still the best out of the rest.

I don't want to see a "daddy" that takes pictures of his "daughter's" pantyshot all the time and adds a creepy dialog to it too.

This is what makes the daughter thing so creepy to me, they say 'daughter' and some even get their dolls to say 'daddy'! Then they go and dress the dolls in low cut tops and shot skirts and take pictures flashing cleavage, panties and bums.

Don't get me wrong, I love a well shot naughty or suggestive photo. I've taken them myself and I've enjoyed looking at ones other people have taken, but the second it's one of those 'father, daughter' peoples posts, I just feel sick to my stomach.

If I could go back to the days before 'daughters' I would XD

Not to mention, those were the days when You could buy second-hand Yuki below one grand...

Yes, somehow I forgot this "daughter" thing. This creeps me out as well sometimes.

I mentioned it recently in one of Billy's thread, that our girls can show emotions.

They're kind of part of us, of our soul. I think no one with a right mind will show such sick emotions to the world.

Thankfully here I don't see such things.

But it's not related to DDs only. On resin forums there are also posts and opinions about owners having not-quite-normal relations to their dolls or between their dolls... Well, it happens.

People are different.

I actually don't think most people who call their DDs "daughters" intend to be pervy about it. More likely, it's just that that has become the accepted term these days. I think some people may have actually never thought that it might be perceived as creepy/pervy to take sexy pictures of "daughters." Maybe too innocent to even consider it from that angle?

Personally, I don't mind sexy, even sexy just for the sake of being sexy.

For me, I think it's okay to show off our dolls bodies, whether to be playful or to be titillating.

Tasteful is a matter of personal opinion. What's tasteful to me might not necessarily be tasteful to someone else, but I find almost all the posts on this forum (even the NSFW ones) tasteful. I have seen some very very sexual DD photos that have made me uncomfortable, but none of them were on this site.

So, I guess, I can say that I'm okay with "sexy" photos up to a certain point, and all the pics I've seen here I think are tasteful! /ramble

I wonder if the "daughter" thing is just a very literal translation of musume. Musume means "daughter" but also works to mean just "girl." I have also heard people refer to their BJDs as ko which means something like "little one."

Even the word kawaii is more than just "cute." If you feel something or someone is kawaii, there is a suggestion that you want to protect that thing or person in a kind of parental way.

DDs can't do anything without us so they epitomize dependence. I can see the draw to calling them daughters.

I don't see mine as daughters but more like manifestations of elements of my personality.

I agree that this forum seems to be unique in its environment. It has a supportive atmosphere. I really appreciate that. I saw the brief spell of cheesecake shots before the NSFW tag induction as a playful time and not an indication that the forum would get more extreme in its content. I think people here are respectful and don't want to offend others. We all seem to have similar values but very different personalities. Our community reflects the customizable nature of DDs. Our diversity is what makes this place so fun too. There are wonderful people here of a wide range of ages and from all over the world.

Thank you, everyone, for making this place so special!

While there definitely are some photo stories that I wouldn't open if my mother-in-law were standing behind me, I agree that those in this community seem to be at least tasteful and/or artistic. No full on, in your face, crotch shots, etc.

As to the whole daughter/daddy issue, for us, our cats and dolls/stuffed animals really are the closest we will have to kids of our own, so I really do see them in that way. Even our AG dolls and some other stuffed animals, long before we had even ever heard of Danny Choo, we referred to like that. And Yuriko calls me daddy, simply because that's what I grew up calling my male parental figure. Father always seemed to formal, and papa, just too European for me to use. It wasn't until extremely recently that I learned that some people used the term in a sexual way, and personally I find that kind of "icky".

I think the girl's personalities do dictate a lot of what they show. To me, many of the girls are old enough to be making their own decisions as to what they want to show of themselves online and are comfortable with others seeing. Sure, Yuriko is a bit flirty at times, and likes to show off a little, but I draw certain lines for her (she is using MY account after all). No panty shots, and a little cleavage is ok from time to time, but no full on boobage, etc. In fact my current sig pic is probably the absolute limit. But she's proud of how she looks, and enjoys modelling, and she shows off SKs work well, so I let her be a little bit bold from time to time, because I like to support her.

I enjoy the "Papa" moniker, basically because I'm in my early 50's. It gives me a bit of satisfaction to be

considered an elderly Guardian/Protector/Provider, rather than the daddy vs loli theme vibe I think that most folks here have an issue with.

I call Tana and Maiko "Kiddos" just for that reason, I can't/don't think of them as daughters, I think if it makes me uncomfortable saying that, what would others think?

You folks have made this site into such an awesome place, I for one don't want to make waves...

I don't really think anyone is here to point fingers at anyone (right?) so no one should need to feel alienated from this discussion. From what I've seen, there's a good mix of people here and a good level of acceptance of all types. I like how everyone is allowed to be themselves here.

The whole "daughter" thing was something I never got into, but I never saw it weird either. Hell, the guy that got me into Dollfies in the first place calls his ladies "daughters. That's cool with me, man. But, if I was exposed to that "father taking suggestive pictures of the daughter" thing, well, that's their thing I suppose... >>

This is the only forum I know that's mostly about Dollfie Dreams and I'm glad I signed up for it, this site is also the reason in my renewed interest in Dollfies. Now I'm going to end up with 4 ladies by next year (But I don't plan on going any further really)

3 of them are simply going to be characters, 2 being Saber and KOS-MOS and the other an OC.

Kihona being my first doll, I see her more of the woman I'd probably fall for, based on her personality and awesome good look, though Kihona was never meant to be a DDdy, but it was the cheapest I could find at the time and I just had to have one. Thanks to this group, my love for her is renewed.

Very well said Mitsuki. This is what I had been thinking all along but couldn't quite put into words to comment here. I fully admit that when I started out in this hobby, all my girls were "daughters" to me but not in the literal sense. Since it was a term that was being used frequently on FFM which at the time was the only place I knew of that had DD's on it, I also used it. But more and more I find myself calling my DD's "the girls" or "my girls" just because it sounds cute and they ARE my girls.

As for the whole "Papa" or "Daddy" bit, I still think it's mostly harmless. As Battrastard said, it's nice to be "needed" by them and to be seen as a guardian or protector. I've always felt that I needed to protect *something* in my life and my girls are what I protect for now.

And before I catch hell, yes.... I do call myself their Papa and I do take some sexy pics of them. Manami of course due to the personality she has but also my other more grown up girls like Mai, Ryomou and Miyuki. But I've never taken pics of them that I thought were lewd or overly sexual in nature. I don't have them making out or showing off in the nude, that's over the line for me. I've done some topless shots of Manami before when she had her Peach Pai but only a very few of those were ever shared online.

So I guess even tho I do do some things some people here don't like, I've never done things to be outright nasty or in bad taste or to upset people. I know due to the personalities of some of my girls I'll never please everyone but I do try my best not to make people irate on purpose.

I totally agree with all of the above, especially about the bout of cheesecake pics and such for a while. I think it was mostly all in good fun and not something we'd come to see every day. We still get the occasional sexy photo shoot and I think that's just fine. I know this place and my DD's are my creative outlet and to lose that would really be sad.

The word ojisan おじさん means "uncle" but can also be used to address someone not related to you. It emphasizes that person is older or maybe somewhat father like in age. It is a common joke in anime where a girl calls an older girl or woman obasan おばさん ("aunt") and that older girl or woman hates that. It is because it means that person is old enough (at least in the other person's mind) not to be called oneesan お姉さん or "big sister." In those cases, a lot of the time no one has any blood relation.

I kind of see Billy's DDs calling him "Papa" in a kind of ojisan-ish way. It defines his father-like protector/provider role and slightly pokes at him as being older and maybe unable to understand the nuances of being a young girl. That is why he sometimes has to convince them to do things like wear a frilly cute outfit (and also why they give in and wear it) as well as why he "gets in trouble" with them. If he wasn't expected to take care of them, Manami wouldn't get upset that he doesn't have enough cookies in the cupboard. Instead, she might complain about cookie price inflation each time she returns from the grocery store.

Those were the words of wisdom.

I think Billy is far from the "creepy fraction".

I can really almost see his "girls" laughing at him and making funny comments. And be like "Older, fetch us cookies. Pronto!"

And then he goes for the cookies, with a deep sigh, because he cares for them.

I think the whole "creating a relation" of some sort with your dolls are totally ok, it makes things more interesting, and part of fun photo stories... it's like how some guys would consider their car to be their girl-friend sometimes Even if it's not a relation that close.. but SOME type of relation is what helps us express our moods sometimes... i'm sure we all had a stuff animal that we used to treat as a friend and talk to them when we were young right sort of the same thing with what we do with our dolls now.

and once again, i really like to thank everyone for contributing a happy healthy community

I think the reason because I'm a bit...don't know, damaged (?) in this topic is the way I got to know about DDs.

I knew them from the beginning I started collecting resin BJDs, but I had never seen one before in person and also had just no interest in them.

Two years ago I met a guy on a Convention.

He was walking around with a SD Megu and a DD Yoko, completely in her full-set.

I asked him if I'd be allowed to take a few photos of his dolls together with my girlfriend, who also collects, and he gave me his Yoko and my girlfriend the Megu.

I was SO amazed by Yoko. Her smiling face, the overall look of her body, she was just charming.

He was a quiet, nice guy and VERY enthusiastic while talking to us, and always patted her head and called her "Tochter" too (German for daughter), which was for me already a bit unknown, since we usually refer to our dolls as...well, our dolls or by their character/mold name.

We then walked to his car to pack them away and I understood why he was so glad that he had someone to talk with about his hobby:

His car was FULL with dolls in their boxes, including DDs and SD full-sets worth several thousand dollars.

He told us that he sometimes just buys them and brings them to conventions to let new people in the hobby unpack and play with them, so they can get to know these dolls and have fun.

In the front he had one of these dakimakura pillows sitting next to him, with seat-belt attached and everything. She was not even naked or in a sexual pose, it was just a girl, in full clothes, printed on the pillow.

Later I always saw him sitting in the car, eating and talking with the pillow and his dolls sitting in the back in their boxes.

I then understood why he most likely did all these things, he was lonely and these dolls were really like daughters to him and he wanted to share the love he had for them with others.

This might have been a bit on the weird side, but it was also cute on the same time.

However, a year later when I decided to get in the hobby I got linked a certain gallery from several people.

This gallery had gone wild on several sites because it was...yes, one of these DaddyxDaughter things. The owner took naughty and sexy pictures of his doll, even made photos of her where you could see him touching her private parts, always calling her daughter and she was like "Oooh, you like that daddy? Should I take my pantsus off your you? Is it our special day again?".

He later had removed these pictures from all the sites he had posted them on because he had realized that people were talking about it.

It reminded me of the nice guy on the Convention and it somehow stained this whole "daughter" thing in my eyes, it somehow turned from a lovely term close to the feeling a family can give you, to something downright sexual and creepy

It made me a bit angry that normal collectors have to suffer from the image other collectors show to the outside, even though most likely the majority of the people just like to collect these dolls and have fun with them.

My dolls are also a big part of my life and it makes me happy to see them sitting here around, and I can totally understand it if others feel the same, but it's unfair that one guy makes it look like the whole hobby consists of perverts that want to rub their private parts on their dolls

(sorry for the long rant, but I just had to get that out.

I'm also very glad that this is a healthy, small community that shares the love for these dolls, customizing and collecting them)

I've only been on this forum a short while, but it seems like a really nice place. I love that there's somewhere that I can share my love of DD's without being judged.

I personally feel really icked out by dirty doll shots. I used to think all DD collectors were like that and it stopped me from venturing into getting my own. I'm glad I found this forum.
