BeyondTime Posted April 3, 2015 The color of the cloth cap the hair is rooted into, but in the case of some wigs they use powders to create highlights and the powders will stain badly. I learned that the hard way with Chihaya. I got very lucky with Dream Rescue and managed to get all the stains out. I then hand washed her wig in Woolite to get all the powder out. No more highlights but no more stains either. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction
Saber Posted April 3, 2015 Oh no, I wanted to get one of these from Leeke World: http://www.leekeworld.com/En/Product/p_view.asp?it_code=6614 It says it might use powder. It says it "removes easily" though, not sure what their idea of easy is.
BeyondTime Posted April 3, 2015 That is a beautiful wig. I honestly don't know about the powder they are talking about but I would snap that up if it won't damage her. Cauldroness is running a Leeke world group order, and I believe knows a lot about their wigs. Here is the thread: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=12150#p169517 The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Saber Posted April 4, 2015 She said she doesn't have any of those wigs herself but that she hasn't heard complaints from other people in her GOs so they should be fine.
foo Posted April 4, 2015 Just collecting stuff in one post, The zipper part on Miku's default boots can stain her ankles after a day or so, I recommend wrapping her legs in platic wrap, socks, or something. The Senbonzakura outfit does not stain, I had it on one of my girls for over a month with no staining. In the Miku news thread, It seems like afther some time mikus headphones will cause dark black stains on her ears. also mentioned that the pressure from her wig can indent her head. I've found that the plastic bits on her arm sleeves (near the biceps) can stain after a day or two, however I was able to rub it off with a magic eraser. It's kind of obvious but the Senbonzakura boots stain. I had the insides lined with tape but I didn't cover the soles, and I forgot to put some on the soles of Yaya's feet before putting on the pink socks (-‸ლ) Her heels are slightly stained after wearing them for a day (through her socks). An update, the Senbonzakura gloves definitely stain. When I was putting them on this time I noticed some brown spots on the hands (I used Yaya's basic hands again). After having them on for less than a day, the brown spots are more prominent.
foo Posted April 4, 2015 Okay, to be honest, this might be the main reason I have yet to get a vinyl doll - I'm terrified of the potential for staining. I understand from friends who own Obitsus that it's very common. You get used to it The stains do go away unless you managed to keep something that stains on for a long time. For the most part if you just wash the clothes in water a few times you'll be fine, but there are some things that stain despite many washings. Most of the time my doll's aren't stained. When they do get stained, a magic eraser might fix it, or if it's light enough sometimes they just go away. Otherwise it's a couple days of treatment with a heat lamp and then you're done with it. What I'd like to know (and it might have been addressed already, so please forgive me if I missed it), how well do the body suits fit with doll clothing, especially full set outfit? It depends on which default, but generally speaking stuff fits. Some clothes may be super tight and won't work, and stockings are a pain (it's like putting two socks on one foot). BeyondTime Posted April 4, 2015 It depends on which default, but generally speaking stuff fits. Some clothes may be super tight and won't work, and stockings are a pain (it's like putting two socks on one foot). Sorry I did misread the question a bit. Socks are usually the worst to get on over a body stocking, but I also have a really tight pair of blue jeans on my Sakura and I put them on over a body stocking. I'm sure they would stain without. I find it harder to get things on over socks though. For example Sakura's white pants that go on with her battle suit are hard to get on with socks on her feet. They barely fit over her feet naked. One thing that would concerns me is if the stocking gets stretched thin while getting something tight on over it then it probably won't protect as well. thebobness Posted April 4, 2015 Does anyone know if the casual plaid set stains?
Kirahfaye Posted April 7, 2015 Thanks for the information on staining. Now I have a newbie question about wig caps - why cloth? Is there a reason the stretchy plastic ones don't work on vinyl? I can add secondhand information a bit about the Leekeworld "powder" wigs from a friend. According to her experience (we talked about it recently actually), the early LW powder color wigs did come off easily and could stain. Not only your doll, but their clothes, your hands, your clothes.... Apparently, LW has a better process and it's less likely to happen with newer wigs. I'd still be very careful, though - I don't know if LW takes vinyl into account since they deal mostly with resin. I have yet to buy one of those wigs because of it. BeyondTime Posted April 7, 2015 I did wonder a bit if they meant resin when they said it would wipe off. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Jezrah Posted April 7, 2015 Thanks for the information on staining. Now I have a newbie question about wig caps - why cloth? Is there a reason the stretchy plastic ones don't work on vinyl? Cloth protect from staining, whereas silocone stops stains not at all, it will leak through to the vinyl. A lot put both on, for stain proffing plus anti sliding. But it's only necessary with dark wig caps. I have several light colored cap wigs that I keep just a silicone cap under and it's fine.
Kirahfaye Posted April 11, 2015 Huh, I did not know that. I haven't had any problems with staining using the silicon caps so far and most of my dolls wear dark wigs. I do wonder one other thing. I have an OT doll with a dark wig (black and purple) that is so tight that I can't fit a silicone cap under it. Would a cloth cap work or are they just as thick? Silicone wig caps do stop some stains, just not as much as a cloth one would. I have a wig that will instantly stain without a wig cap, but using a silicone cap it hasn't stained for over a year. Granted, it's an actual proper wig cap by Dolk and not the cheap stuff you get from Chinese BJD stores/etc.
DesertAngel Posted April 14, 2015 Well, here's another one: the black business suit. This is a really classy looking outfit and it would be a shame not to use it. But, you have to pay attention to details when you use it. IMG_2708 by rcgimmi@yahoo.com, on Flickr Here's the mistake I made: The jacket is unlined and it will start to stain vinyl on contact. Remove the hands before you put the jacket on! Stains might not be immediately apparent. They can take a couple months to darken up. IMG_2785 by rcgimmi@yahoo.com, on Flickr The outfit comes with a very nice, white blouse that will help protect the doll. I also put a full bodysuit on her. Glad I did! Between the shirt and the bodysuit, it seems like she was pretty well protected. Now then. Here's another tip. It might be a good idea to wash the bodysuit before you put it on, too. I noticed no staining of the doll when I removed it; but, I do see tan stains on the white plastic that lines her pumps. (The prominent black stains are from fishnet pantyhose. These were washed twice before they were used.) IMG_2781 by rcgimmi@yahoo.com, on Flickr IMG_2782 by rcgimmi@yahoo.com, on Flickr I washed the bodysuit last night. I've got a jar of Dollfie Rescue and I plan to use it on the shoes, too. Will post photos after cleanup is done.
BeyondTime Posted April 15, 2015 If you are talking about Dream Rescue I'm not sure it is something you can use on shoes or clothing. It's probably formulated for hard and soft vinyl, and while it might work on the shoes it could damage them. You might try a leather cleaner on the shoes; ideally one that works on both real and simulated leather. I have no idea which of the two those shoes are. One thing you would need to be cautious about is any chemical that got absorbed into the material could damage the doll while they are on her feet. The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? Heroin is illegal, Dollfie Dreams probably should be. “Empty wallets, full hearts.” That’s probably an apt description for the effects of DD addiction

Those are *all* very good points, Wolf. I'll try the shoe cleaner first. Will post results here so that everyone can see what to do (or -- ugh -- what NOT to do) afterwards. Often, the best way to learn something is vicariously.
BeyondTime Posted April 15, 2015 I believe Volks sells replacements for the vinyl parts of the feet, so if you did have a problem you could replace a foot. The only issue would be if the replacement foot was a different shade than the other one. You might shove a spare hand into the shoe and wad up some tissue paper in the rest of the shoe to wedge the hand against the parts of the shoe that have the cleaner used on them. That might give you a good sense of what it might do to the doll. Even if the various body parts are replaceable I'm loath to do anything that would damage any part of an original LE doll. Especially one like Lily. I totally get why you are wanting to clean those shoes. If you broke the cost down they probably cost more than the ones I am wearing right now. XD The difference between Dollfie Dreams and Heroin? I've thought about buying a used DD body so that I would worry less about staining. I saw someone selling a naked Saber Lily here on the DD boards for $600(?). No hair, no clothing. Just the head body and box. The flip side of this is that this one was probably "parted out." The clothing, wig, armor and swords are probably worth about $3000. They're the valuable parts of the set. I'm far less mercenary about mine. I wouldn't deliberately damage her or expose her to undue risk. But, I didn't buy her as an investment (though the past six months have showed she would have been a good one!) I purchased her to enjoy her. And I have! This is something I plan to own until my dying day. If someone gets her at a bargain price from my estate because she is slightly worn, that's OK by me. I only hope they like her as much as I did. I want to clean up the shoes to keep them nice for her. Sorry if that sounds sappy. But, that's the way it is. PS. I'm pretty sure she's worth more than anything else in this house. "I ain't rich." foo Posted May 8, 2015 (edited) It's kind of obvious once you see it in person, but just so people don't try testing it, the outside of the red skirt on the Lady Wizard set stains FAST. To date I've only stained fingertips, after a day of barely touching it, a fingertip will get red. For example, Melty in this photo is not touching it. But a day later they were still like that, and Melty kind of creeped over and touched it. The tip of her finger is slightly red now! You can see Sakuya's righthand thumb is stained a bit in this photo, I didn't try hard enough to edit it out (I had her posed and actually touching it the day before, so in this case it's not quite an accidental stain). It's really beautiful but it's like playing with fire. Edited May 8, 2015 by Guest
nao Posted May 8, 2015 You mean the Lady Wizard Set, right? But I confirm, the red skirt stain lightening fast. Iroha tried it for just few hours, and her fingertips are all red now Well, it's nothing that RemoveZit or DreamRescue can't handle, but be very careful with this dress. I wanted to wash the skirt to remove the excess dye, but i really love the soft feeling, and don't want to ruin it.
foo Posted May 8, 2015 Right, Lady Wizard f^_^;) I didn't want to wash it either, it's so lovely as is. The Lady Archer set seems fine.
sklurk Posted May 9, 2015 I wanted those sets... couldn't get them T_T On related note. be wary of the VS tag in the clothes, I just caught what I think would have been a stain. The tag left a black mark on a set of tights. The embroidery thread that spells VS seems to lose dye.
Anna-neko Posted May 18, 2015 well, if anyone still hasn't learned for themselves... Uzuki's uniform is a problem! The skirt isn't even like.. normal fabric. It feels almost like vinyl tablecloth! (might be they custom-printed the skirt's pattern themselves?) The hemming & snaps are all sewn with dark pink thread, which def is gonna stain from knowing Volks There is a little white slip sewn into the skirt, but it's shorter than skirt itself Saber's blouse was tucked in, so the snaps never touched her BUT the skirt's hem brushed her thighs: you bet your tube of zit-away it stained! Red stripes all around her poor thigh
