Error-Chan Posted November 28, 2012 Ok so here is the thing for you.. if you have the money for ether your unicorn or to complete 1+ OCs doll which would you choose? I have no clue! I could save a little more or get two heads eyes and a body for my OCs.

waha Posted November 28, 2012 could you explain a little more I don't really understand? do you mean by not getting the unicorn it means you dont want them as much? A unicorn isn't a simple wish list of dolls you want, it's the doll you want ABOVE anything else. Thus if you had the funds and means to get it you would do it. Otherwise it wouldn't be an unicorn. Waha's right. I've noticed the "unicorn" term getting thrown around too casually. A DD Unicorn is THE doll that you want. Realistically there would be maybe 2 dolls in this category (Usually there's just one!). The rest are just wishlist DD's. If you rather complete the OC than purchase the "unicorn" then it's not a "DD Unicorn" at all. Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! I see your point. but on the other hand I guess it depends on the Oc. if she (or he) would need a limited dollfie head would you go for that head if it came up and was more available to get?. My Oc both will have SQ lab heads so I dont have the worry about getting them cheap when they appear so I on my side it is not a equal scale for unicorn-oc. next Wish list girl is Yoko for my fiance so she is lower then Ocs on are scales. and PlasticFantastic I think it is the "unicorn" label in my view has been liquidated. I do think that some people are not misusing so say but misinterpreting the meaning of the "unicorn" ( me being one of them XD)

I do think that some people are not misusing so say but misinterpreting the meaning of the "unicorn" ( me being one of them XD) But... just because you don't understand a word it doesn't inherently mean the definition is wrong. I think people just want to have unicorns so they call the one they want the most a Unicorn. To go back to an earlier question, if you need a limited head to complete an OC that would be a unicorn then technically that limited is the unicorn. If you need non-limited heads and bodies to make your most wanted character then you don't have a unicorn. Sometimes knowing that you don't know what you want the most yet is the most important. Nelly19 Posted November 28, 2012 I prefer original custom girls, I don't think I want a particular sculpt bad enough to consider it unicorn status. I guess it's the selfishness in me to know that I have a truly one of a kind doll. Even with the xenosaga girls and SAO dollfie coming out, nothing really piques my interests. If anything I am waiting for blank bodies to hit the market...... Learning that its safe outside my shell too

I do think that some people are not misusing so say but misinterpreting the meaning of the "unicorn" ( me being one of them XD) If your OC's head is a limited head that you really really want but could never get a hold of than it can be considered a unicorn. A unicorn is basically something you chase after but can never obtain. Can be a very rare doll that never shows up or a doll that always get snatched up before you can get to it. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive, just rare (although most rare dolls are expensive nowadays lol). What Waha is trying to say is that if you would rather buy your OC than getting your unicorn, it can't be much of a unicorn at all. If given the chance, you would always try for the unicorn first. I see where you are coming from though. It sounds like there is a very expensive doll that you want but you also want to make an OC. In this case, your "unicorn" is not really a unicorn, just an expensive doll you want to save for. To answer your original question, I would always pick my unicorn over an OC, unless me OC is also one of my unicorns. In that case than OC wins because there is a personal attachment to it. http://juu-yuki.com Dolly Shop: http://www.lizanna.com

If anything I am waiting for blank bodies to hit the market...... I guess it is about the background of the limited doll. I was introduced to Evangelion by my fiance and the character Rei I just fell in love with. So that is why I she is my 1 Unicorn. Then I have dolls that I would like but if I never got them I would not mind. for example I just squee at Ms. Mariko face and if I got her I would love her as much as Rei but if I needed money I would sell her if needed. By all that I guess the shorten version is The Unicorn is different for certain people based on the background behind wanting them. I think for me. When I am feeling "down" I like to buy things XD so the want to buy things has at times made my buy when if I saved i probably would of gotten Rei sooner. Nigoki Posted November 28, 2012 To me a "unicorn" is that elusive doll that you've been hunting for and has continued to escaped you; until rather recently, that was Ayanami Rei. Now that I've got her, some other Unicorn will surely step in.

Well most of the video game characters I don't know, I am a newbie to this, but so far I prefer my own creations, the anime characters I recognize are very cute. But I prefer to look at them instead of spending so much on them....I mean if one day I can spend over a grand on a limited model so easily then I think I may and truth be told the OC's can run up a bill as well. But for now, I like looking at owners pictures. I am soon getting my first girl who will be an OC so if I can take care of her well I may be more comfortable with deeming someone a unicorn and going for her. Error-Chan Posted November 28, 2012 I thinks is funny to see that it does depend on the Limited characters "character" as in who they are that does change in people want them or not. nice to see people not just buying dolls for doll sake XD
Yukamina Posted November 28, 2012 I don't have a unicorn, but if I did, that's what I would choose. An OC can assumably be put together so long as I spend the money on it, but a limited doll may show up only rarely... so I'd take the opportunity to get the hard to find unicorn. Ara Posted November 28, 2012 (edited) I think it depends how you define a "unicorn". I get the feeling that for many unicorn here means simple "hard to get doll, most likely full-set, that is very pretty or the persons favourite anime/game character (hence why the full-set is important)" and seldom "Man, I just really like her face!". For me personally hard to get and pretty was never a reason to get a doll, and I also had to realize that even IF I loved a doll a lot, it was in the end sometimes better to admire it from a distance, in the hands of someone else. I had several dolls that I admired but let go because...yeah, they were just pretty, but nothing else. I didn't feel a connection to them, mostly because they didn't spark my creativity (which is important for me)...if I want a pretty statue I would collect one, and not customizable dolls. I also more than once tried to make already existing characters in doll form because I loved the characters so much, but sooner or later I always had to change that because it just didn't feel like "my" doll and my character. I usually in the end decided for the doll that I think would make me more happy, no matter if the doll is hard to get, extra-ordinary pretty or whatnot. Do you think your unicorn would make you happy the way she is? How do you define your unicorn? If you know how to answer this, I'm sure you will find the answer to this question (and who says a unicorn can't be an OC too?) Nelly19 Posted November 28, 2012 Ara, I like your answer. Creativity to me is very important, and i do just like looking at pictures, so i really cant say i have a doll i would put before all others on my radar. And yes i think an OC can be a unicorn ^,^ like that one original character in my mind i dream about and think needs a physical body to live out their days Learning that its safe outside my shell too
RaveOfNightmares Posted November 28, 2012 For me, my one unicorn happened to be my first girl and the one who started me in collecting DDs. For me it was a mixture of her character, her overall appeal and cuteness, but most of all it was the way she spoke to me. When she arrived, it was just like the first time I saw her in the Volks Akiba store display case, like an angel descending upon me. The first thing she said after her arrival was that she felt that her bust was a bit to small to accurately be who she's supposed to be. Since then she has grown into her own, separate from the original base character, but still remaining as my favorite. She's gone through numerous other changes, wigs, busts, glasses, ear piercing, and even to a Dy body, but she remains herself through and through. She is my one true unicorn, my Mio.
