Stain Warning...

Recommended Posts

Nakitaninja

This should not come as a surprised but when I had Beatrice in her uniform set she become stained. I had the Coolcat protective suit on and took every precaution (removed her hands to put her jacket and vest on) but apparently while posing her finger tips must have brushed the surface and became blue with the black stain. Hands are easy to replace but upon further inspection how lower forearms had also stained a bit from putting on the jacket.

Word to the wise... even those of you who think (like I did) that you've done everything to prevent staining:

You cannot let any Volks black uniform(maid, school girl, etc) fabric come into contact with a DDs skin whatsoever, at all, ever. I had no idea how quickly it happens but apparently it needs only to brush against the skin to visibly & noticeably stain.

I have a happy ending as I busted out some of my brush cleaner I keep about for my painting and it all cleaned away nicely, washed with soap and water and then gave her hands a shot of finishing spray- she's absolutely the same as when she came out of the box but still it was traumatic and I thought I would warn everyone since quite a few people have had Beatrice come home to them recently.

I didn't take pictures because I wanted to work as quickly as possible to prevent the staining from setting so you'll have to take my word for it. The jacket is now retired and sealed in plastic far away from any DD flesh!

So what's in the brush cleaner that cleaned stains instantly? I'm curious if it works for older stains.

Ah sorry, lemme check...

Winston and Newton Brush Cleaner and Restorer.

http://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-Brush-Cleaner-Restorer/dp/B001TYMGTE

It's worth mentioning that I used this once on accident to remove a face-up I did not like thinking it was paint thinner (I have both and I wasn't paying attention). Well, it wasn't. Nope, it works far better than paint thinner. I would advise washing the area in gentle soap and water after use as I wouldn't let it sit on the surface of the doll but I think it's fairly well known around these parts by now that I am paranoid about my doll's condition. ^^

I hope it works for you. Use it sparingly!

I have heard of Winston and Newton Brush Cleaner before. Hikaru says he uses it to remove DD faceups. I haven't tried it, but it sound promising and like a good thing to have around the house.

That is crazy about that black jacket! I have put black clothes from K&K Workshop of DDs without even a protective layer for short periods of time and not had a problem. That is awful that even with protection, Volks' black fabric is so dangerous. If anyone should know about the problems with staining, it should be Volks. A tiny fuzzy from Saber's maid dress landed on Sayuri, and now she has a little "beauty mark" on her chest. It is so tiny and natural looking that I like it and haven't done anything about it.

That is great that you got the marks off poor Beatrice. It is always stressful when things go wrong even with careful planning.

That is exactly how staining the jacket is! It was barely on her- I was totally shocked! On the other hand, Alna has had on dark plaid print shorts and white skin and has never had a problem. Whatever that uniform material is- forget it!

I do have to say all of her other items were lined and made beautifully- it's really odd that the jacket and vest material is so horrid!

Thank you for the support, Mitsuki. I know I am not alone in this problem, I just didn't realize how quickly it could happen even with minor contact! And yes... the brush cleaner is wonderful though is smells pretty foul. ^^;;;; I honestly hope it helps!

Ugh, sorry to hear that. Glad you got it all fixed up though. This is certainly something I'll be constantly worried about. I'm not a huge fan of the body stockings, but yeesh, even with one you're not safe. Even resin isn't that bad.

No, you're totally right about that. I am looking forward to getting another resin daughter (come on August!) so I can dress her in darker clothes without worry. Mitsuki is totally right- not everything stains. The super dark material Volks uses just bleeds all over everything... I was thinking about washing it... or scotch-guarding it I'll get back to you if I get that brave. ^^

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and ordered a small bottle to try the next time I have a stain to remove.

So sorry to hear about the staining issue. It's amazing how fast color from a dry fabric can transfer to them. Almost as amazing as a company who sells extremely expensive dolls not verify if the fabric they buy for clothes is safe to use on the product they sell!!!!!

I know I wouldn't be as upset if this was something you bought from a 3rd party clothes seller like Dollmore or Alice's Collections but since it's from Volks directly it's unacceptable.

I ordered a bottle of Retayne "Color Fixative" the other day:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000YZ5HL8

I'm going to try it out once it comes in, I'll post how well it works (or doesn't work)

You are scaring me ^.^;

The skirt from Saber's summer outfit is jet black, and it refuses to go from the bottom up. To put the skirt on, I had to pull it down from top to hips, and I'm a little worried about staining my musume's face while I'm at it.

The good thing is - the skirt has a separate "white lining skirt" that I put on my girl's waist before putting the actual skirt on, but even with that I'm still a little worried that the black fabric will sink through the protective white skirt.

If you can find some opaque white tights (make sure it's a good denier), cut off one leg and it's toe, so you have a tube. Put this over the top half of your dolls body before you put the dress over her head, and it may add a little more protection. As its thin, stretchy material, you can then whip it off once the skirt is safely over the white underskirt. It's not a perfect solution for every situation, but should help this one.

Sometimes I take my girls' heads off to dress them depending on the outfit. They look so strange without heads though.

I usually remove hands and heads while dressing! It's the best way to make sure you don't have any accidents. ^^

Sorry, I don't mean to scare you. T-T It was just worth mentioning that I had a terrible time with it and while I expected it to stain if I dress the doll and left the outfit on, I did not expect 'briefly brushing against the fabric while dressing the doll' to produce significant staining. First time in the outfit too. Beatrice is fine now but it's worth the extra bit of caution to prevent staining.

This is a very nice idea! I like it! Thank you~

Thanks, mitsuki!

Once Halloween comes, let's try taking pictures of our DDs while they are holding their own heads, !

No problem! Luckily the black fabric of the skirt didn't stain Euphie when it gently brushed against Euphie's skin (this was just before I saw your message).

I'm sorry to hear about Beatrice being stained by her default outfit. I recalled MaxArcher saying something about the outfit being lined in white, but I guess certain parts of the overall outfit aren't lined well enough to prevent staining.

I had exactly the same thing with my Beato and her uniform. I posted threads here and figure.fm in the hopes that they'd be seen.

The default outfit hasn't been a problem. I had it on her for several days without any issues.

Totally- her default was not the problem. It was her supplementary uniform outfit. Hopefully you were about to get the stains off as well- without too much problem. (((((((((((

I put her uniform back on minus the jacket and being uber careful with the vest. It just scares me for the 'adorable maid' outfit coming out because it seems to be the same material on the bottom. Oh well. We shall see.

Unfortunately I wasn't. I got them off enough that you have to look for them to notice, but they're still there. I used a Magic Eraser and rubbing alcohol. I have some Windsor & Newton from when my GF did her faceups, I'll give it a try. Hopefully it's not too late. (It's been a week.)

It's ages until it'll happen, but my GF is planning on actually putting a white lining into the jacket.

Hopefully this will make you feel better- I tried the Magic eraser w/o the brush cleaner and it did nothing on my stains. I never use the brush cleaner first- always try another method because the cleaner smells generally awful. When I busted out the brush cleaner, applied cautiously and then gently wiped the area the stain lessened and then was gone.

I think (depending on how long she was exposed) that you'll have a full recovery. Don't forget to check the inside ring around her wrist? Mine still had dye on the inside and it kept staining her hard plastic hand part? Really odd but I found it and got rid of it. ^^

I know some people didn't believe me when I ended up putting finger-print stains on Elle but hopefully people will realise now just how easy it is to stain the vinyl skin.

I really need to get my hands on some of those cool catz body stockings. I think that will be my next DD order.... ^_^
