gaiaswill Posted December 20, 2012 I had an unfortunate mishap where the bottom half of the lenses from Yuki Nagato's set have broken off. I consider myself "fortunate" in that glasses only being half-frame meant the frame itself survived the accident. But now I need help repairing the lenses. Any suggestions for glue and sanding from the more knowledgeable?
finnleo Posted December 22, 2012 Im assuming that the lens came clean off the frame, but first off can only say what you shouldnt use, and that is superglue, since that will most likely frost the lens. I think you need to be looking for something like this glue meant for glear plastic model parts If you have a hobby shop nearby to go to, they might have something similar, or even better know if it works as it should (does not melt or deform the glued edges, or fog up the lens). I recomend trying whatever you do get on a spare CD case or something similar to verify that the glue does not behave badly.
finnleo Posted December 15, 2013 Well, by some pequliar twist of fate I find myself in this same situation as while shooting a small photo story, there was a rather unpromising crunch from underneath my big toe. After 5 minutes to moaning and whailing I decided to see what could be done. As it turns out the lenses in Nagato's glasses are actually detachable, and go into a groove inside the frames themselves. after scouring my stock of clear plastic stuff, I found that the typical Volks clear item box was a closest match. Using electrical tape to form a rough template by placing the broken lens pieces onto, I used this this a cutting guide to the plastic. 800-grit wet & dry sandpaper to round off the edges after the scissors, and here's the end result: misc021 The trick here was the small notches in the sides of the leses that lock them into the frame, but if a butterfinger like me can do it, it shouldnt be impossible with some patience. Not perfect by any means, but better than broken... also makes for a fun idea to turn these into sun glasses If I could find suitable material.

finnleo Posted December 15, 2013 You, sir (ma'am) are a genius. Thank you very much for remembering this thread and posting! (I have a project now...) Sir actually.. But no problem, actually as I said there was indeed a sense of irony, since oddly enough this thread was in mind as I was pondering what if I broke the glasses of all things during the shoot .. and immediately there was that crunch. But hopefully you can get yours fixed also.
