finnleo Posted October 14, 2012 For those looking for something in the lines of the Fruits basket anime this current season, there might be Kamisama Kiss (Kamisama Hajimema$hita -- dern language filter.. ) to consider, which is made by the same director. It feels very much styled like fruits basket was, right down to the opening, which sounds like it could have been done by the late Ritsuko Okazaki. The setting is also rather similar, except Nanami is a bit more stern than Tooru was in FB. And the zodiac is basicly exchanged with various deities. perhaps more of a girl fantasy series with all the deitys being pretty much boys, but eh ... what things you cant suffer for random silly shoujo comedy. Although, speaking of Okazaki, it was a bit eerie to hear her singing the opening for Suki te ii na yo, not sure is this a old recycled song, but still very surprising. baldylox Posted October 14, 2012 Well, I finished up "Angel Beats" yesterday. It didn't live up to the hype I remember it getting back in the day when it was new. It was a decent show and the ending really caught me off guard. But other than that, it was mediocre at best in my opinion. The revalation about Tenshi was the best part of the show and totally unexpected. But everything leading up to it just didn't make a bunch of sense to me. It was like half the "missions" the SSS did had no real use at all, other than stealing food tickets. I'm not upset that I watched the show because like I said, it was decent. It's just not something I'd watch again or tell others they *had* to see. But this is all just my opinion and we all know how opinions work. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Deinbeck Posted October 14, 2012 Well, I finished up "Angel Beats" yesterday. It didn't live up to the hype I remember it getting back in the day when it was new.Billy Yeah, it got alot more hype than it deserved really. It's funny how that happens. I think at times it depends on what else was on at the time. If everything else is a snoozer, the "ok" show seems amazing in comparison
finnleo Posted October 15, 2012 Well, I finished up "Angel Beats" yesterday. It didn't live up to the hype I remember it getting back in the day when it was new. Well, the hype was mostly due to it being a Key original story, but out of curiosity was it the TV-release, or disc release version? (Yes, there was a difference)

Well, the hype was mostly due to it being a Key original story, but out of curiosity was it the TV-release, or disc release version? (Yes, there was a difference) It was the Bluray disc release version and it had the extras in there too. One random episode of them running around screaming all day or some such madness. There was a making of ep in there too. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

I got the north american bluray in my shelf, and still find it a bit annoying they left out the shorter another epilogue episode, but dunno is that for better or worse. PrettyCranium Posted October 15, 2012 I agree that there were a ton of unanswered questions in AB. But I enjoyed it for the twist ending. It was a bit annoying that they dropped so many plot lines.

Ah yeah, the short episode with the kid realizing he's dead and then the Class Rep walking in and getting on his case. That almost felt like "The Matrix" to me with the rep being Neo and setting up new recruits or something. It was interesting since he chose to stay there. And the loose ends were kinda annoying as PC said. But I do agree that that last minute jab/twist was really from out of left field and totally unexpected, to me at least. It was at least done well and I liked it. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
finnleo Posted October 15, 2012 It was interesting since he chose to stay there. Considering who/what he was, it wasnt really a choise, but retaking his place as the system manager, and starting his wait all over again. ... or thats just my theory.

baldylox Posted October 28, 2012 Watched the series "Another" today and it was quite different from what I expecting. A bit ruthless at times and NOT the ending I figured on. But the cute girl with the two color eyes and eyepatch was adorable to watch... she reminded me of Rei Ayanami a bit. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. jadepixel Posted October 29, 2012 Just discovered Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) on Crunchyroll and I love it so far Has a strong art style and soundtrack, really interesting world and themes. It's about a group of primary school kids but the setting is mystical/futuristic and sometimes very eerie and dark. It reminds me of Haibane Renmei or Dennou Coil. jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

DJStarstryker Posted November 2, 2012 Anyone here want a 30 day Premium Membership free trial code for Crunchyroll? Crunchyroll doesn't like the fact that I have a Japanese IP address and I really don't feel like dealing with trying to mask my IP address another way when I'm only mildly interested in watching anime through them right now. First to PM me can have the code. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
leitan Posted November 3, 2012 i tend to watch a lot of different series at a time, because some series i watch alone while multitasking/working/slacking off and others i sit down to watch with my boyfriend. currently: Ben-To Excel Saga Jormungand Black Lagoon (rewatching) Muv Luv Total Eclipse Shirokuma Cafe Sword Art Online Humanity Has Declined and i have such a backlog of stuff i either dropped and want to pick up again, or new series that are starting now! oh... and i thought Muv Luv would be pretty bad, but for some reason i am really enjoying it. go figure. i guess i just have a weakness for mecha anime with cliche plots and catchy opening/ending themes. finnleo Posted November 3, 2012 oh... and i thought Muv Luv would be pretty bad, but for some reason i am really enjoying it. go figure. i guess i just have a weakness for mecha anime with cliche plots and catchy opening/ending themes. oddly enough I dont find this as cliched, despite its setting... atleast not after how it got rid of the bulk of the cliche characters in the second ep. a bit divided on how its degraded to a relationship drama (not surprising, considering its origins), but I really like how this is seemingly based on respect, and not sympathy. Too bad the animation is starting to fall badly apart.
