Vinegar method and proxy services?

Recommended Posts

WoundedNight64

Hi, I've been reading a lot of stain prevention things and everyone refers to the vinegar method after washing the clothes. I'm really worried about trying it though. Is there a chance that the clothes will look washed out, or that they will lose their colour? If you wash them too much will they?

I really want to order a doll off Yahoo Japan, but I'm really unsure about how to go about it. There are so many proxy services out there, it's all a bit overwhelming. I wouldn't resort to it normally, but the girl I want rarely shows up on figure.fm, DoA or anywhere else for that matter. I also don't want to use Ebay because the prices are so hiked up... If anyone has any advice on the topic I'd be grateful. I've also never used a proxy service before, unless you count giving the money to a family member and getting her to order direct from Japan and bring it home....

Thanks a million,

Lucy

There are tutorials on Youtube for the "vinegar method" but i won't use this on my dolls clothes (maybe the color will fade out!?)! I just use a body suit! Cool Cat has a big variety of them, i guess this is the better way to protect your DD AND your clothes!

In my experience, soaking clothes in any type of liquid runs the risk of the color fading.

Vinegar will help set certain dyes, but it doesn't work on all dyes. I've personally never tried it... if I really need to wash something, I use ice-cold water.

Thanks so much guys. I guess dark clothing will only be for photoshoots. Luckily I'm getting some nice pastel clothes from Cool Cats

I believe vinegar can be used to set certain acidic colors into fabric, but is mostly useless on more modern fabrics/dyes. Google around a bit and you'll find a lot of stuff.

Regarding proxies, everyone has their favorites, but I'd recommend trying From Japan, or Noppin, as both of them are rather easy to use and have very automated setups/etc. You don't have to wait for them to manually process your account/payments/etc. Of course there are others like them but I just haven't used them.

(I'm also a big fan of Goody Japan, but they're very manual )

Scripple also said something similar in reference to vinegar only helping with some dyes. Body stockings are a great option.

I have a friend who uses Celga and Rinkya depending on the need. Rinkya is expensive because shipping is quite high, but you can bid in real time and at the last minute.

I just got a red skirt in the mail for Moka and l tried the white vinegar thing and it didn't work. When l washed it by hand some red dye came out so l washed it again etc. Now l know just to wash things by hand when it comes to dark colors from volks.

I have a pair of pants from Volks that I tried washing dozens of time and it still won't stop bleeding dye.

I have those pants too... They are cursed! Cursed with too much dye. If any of you get the Volks Retro Poncho set, NEVER use the pants.

I have that set and even resin dolls can get bad stains. What was Volks thinking?
