I like the Sasara one, she's cute. But WAY too white for the new Moe. I like some color to my girls, not ghost white.

The mini DD is pretty cute too.

Sasara's outfit looks like a DDdy version of this one:

http://volksusa.com/ofkor20100308.html

Remember Manami wearing that outfit? Now there may be one designed to fit her!

Ha! As soon as I saw these pics, I thought that her outfit looked similar. And now you hit the nail on the head. I was wondering how they got the back of that top closed because they was NO way it was closing all the way on Manami's new Shapely Bust. And I am pretty sure Sasara has the same bust.

But that's really cool that they may actually have the same set become available for the DDdy body. Looking at the pics again tho, Sasara is not wearing the finger gloves that came with the set I have. She has little fuzzy bracelets on instead, like the ones that came with Manami's Pink Bunny outfit which came with Manami when I first adopted her. Hmm...

Which reminds me, I need to get pics of Rei in that outfit.... Maybe for the Xmas morning present opening....

That's an idea outfit for Rei to wear for opening presents.

They need a white skin Natsuki to complete the set.

I also heard there will be an additional 4 other girls to round out 7 one-off models to complete the set.

4 more?? Sheesh, are they TRYING to make people go broke this holiday season?

I just looked at the Sasara again and noticed that the outfit she is wearing actually has parts from TWO previous outfits. The main dress and stockings are from that Nightie set I have and the boots, white cuffs and Bunny ears are from the White Rabbit set that is the same as my pink one except for the color. Maybe Volks had unsold outfits lying around and decided to be slick and repackage them as "new" and "one off"

I think there will only be one of each of the one-offs. Only one person who is physically present at Dolpa24 can purchase a given one-off. I wonder if anyone who buys one ever tries to sell her. They won't announce the price until the event either.

Really? Wow, I didn't think they actually meant one offs as only one available! That's just crazy. Peopl are going to go nuts with that bit of news.

As the title says "one-off" ie only 1 of em.....

They have done this plenty of times before with Super Dollfies.

I understand the concept of a "one off" being only one available but sometimes it can also mean only one run is available at one place at one time. So these could have been just available at DP24 in limited quantities. And I don't follow Super Dollfie news at all.

I've been in other hobbies where the term "one off" was used to mean just that, like a Convention Exclusive figure or model. SDCC is great for using that term. But there were always more than one of them available at those events.

I just thought it was odd they would do that with DD's. I know they do limited numbered DD's all the time but not just ONE of them. You'd think that news would cause rioting at the show!

In the case of the Dollpa all the new releases are "limited" anyway

http://www.darkdollhouse.com/dolpa-for-dummies/

The one-offs are all personally finished by a highly thought-of Volks make up artist so there literally will be ONE of them. Dont get your hopes even half way up for theses ones.

There will be no rioting. Everyone understands one-off as far as Volks is concerned means ONE.

And this is not the first time they have done it with DDs.

Thanks for the article link, D.ark makes it easy to understand the Dollpa process. Since I have never been, I had no clue how they ran things.

And yeah, "limited" at these usually just means that those same items will be available a few months later on the Volks sites. At least that's what I've seen happen with the clothing and outfits.

Trust me, I have no illusions I'd get any of these one-off's. I couldn't afford them right now even *IF* I knew I could get my hands on one. But it's cool to see what's on offer and know more about the process.

The rioting bit was a joke.

So they have done one-off's for DD's before? Which ones were they? Any links to pics or info on them?

At Dollpa 13 they offered a one-off DD cast in Resin "Super Dollfie Dream"

http://www.volks.co.jp/en/event/dollsparty13/dolpa13_auction.aspx

there are one-off Supers at nearly every Dollpa. This will be one of the few times they offer DD one-offs as well as Super one-offs

And while I absolutely love the poseability of the DDs, their lightweight, ease of swapping hands etc. If they cast these babies in Resin like their Supers and retain the anime styling I'd be in rapture. No more stinking stains.....

Here are the two previous Super Dollfie Dream One-Offs:

They were cast in resin and used Mirai's face mold.

Wow! Those are some beautiful girls! And they were DD's made of vinyl, not resins?

I love the angel one, the wings are very nicely done.

The all black outfit just SCREAMS of stains tho.... still an extremely nice outfit.

I love the angel girl too. She has tan skin (maybe because she is always in the sun).

I guess if they are made of resin, staining isn't a problem. These are made with the strung type I body which can be "resin-ified." Resin was considered fancier than vinyl back then, but there is a considerable vinyl following now.

Mitsuki, your point of them possibly being resin and therefore not worrying too much about staining brings up something I have wondered about for a while now.

Volks makes DD's from vinyl which they know stains. Why on earth do they continue to release outfits that stain their girls? Take Yoko for instance. Her hot pants are murder for staining, it's a well known fact. Why wouldn't Volks take that extra step to either test those materials for the possibility of staining before releasing them or at least include a white layer underneath for protection? When people pay as much as they do for these dolls as well as the outfits themselves, you would think the manufacturer would take steps to prevent staining on their products BY their products.

Maybe I am missing something or I'm being overly critical but this never made much sense to me. Is it planned obsolescence? Selling outfits that cause stains surely makes their replacement body parts business look like a profit gold mine. But I digress.....

Those one-off Super Dollfie Dreams referred to earlier are made of resin.

Volks originally developed the pvc Dollfie Dream as a lighter more poseable and CHEAPER alternative to the resin super dollfies. Most DDs are around half or 60% the price of a same-sized Super.

Of course you could point to the Saber DD and Saber Lily DDs as exceptions - but with all their additional items accompanying the Sabers - they are barely as expensive as a normal LE SD10/SD13 release.

Until very recently Volks still considered the Super Dollfie as the vehicle to release their most sought after LE's of even anime based characters such as the Rozen Maidens. There have been Super Dollfies released of a number of anime chrs. This trend has only changed in the last probably 2 years with more focus on the DD than previously.

I am pretty certain that until the recent popularity of the DDs that the DDs were mainly a "cute" afterthought and that nearly all Dollfie care and handling are focussed on the Supers. Remember that even the original DD Saber didnt sell out completely until the internets craze started and they popularity hit the "j" -curve.

The fact that PvC stains probably wasnt a consideration in original development. Volks as a company that has a lot of experience in casting and developing PvC figures did not focus on making clothes and accessories for said PvC figures until very recently. A to be fair a lot of collectors of character focus DDs probably werent into changing clothes (if you dont change clothes -ever - its not a big deal if they stain where you cant see) as often as per currently. And most 3rd party clothes makers until recently have focuse on making clothes for resin dolls which dont really stain either

Ah, I was wondering about that. I would think they were but I couldn't be sure.

That's what I had heard as well.

Yeah well, Saber is her own little exception. I do agree that she is worth the money due to all the things she comes with and the detail on her and those accessories. Not that I can afford one anytime soon....

Yet another thing I didn't know. It makes sense they would want their "flagship" line to be used to showcase LE characters. I am personally glad they have shifted focus to the DD line as I couldn't afford resins nearly as easily as the DD's.

Remember that even the original DD Saber didnt sell out completely until the internets craze started and they popularity hit the "j" -curve.

Seeing as I just joined the DD ownership ranks earlier this year, I hadn't delved too far into their history until lately. It's kind of hard to believe that *any* Saber would go unsold given the mystique around her nowadays. But as you say, that's the "j-curve" in effect as well as the main online pusher of DD's, Danny Choo. He is the guy responsible for my sickness as well.

The fact that PvC stains probably wasnt a consideration in original development. Volks as a company that has a lot of experience in casting and developing PvC figures did not focus on making clothes and accessories for said PvC figures until very recently.

That makes sense especially since I have visited their stores in Japan. The store in Akihabara let me see just how many other nice things Volks makes. I had no idea they were into so many other areas until I saw the showrooms.

And to be fair a lot of collectors of character focus DDs probably werent into changing clothes (if you dont change clothes -ever - its not a big deal if they stain where you cant see) as often as per currently. I can see that point. Why worry about stains if you can't see them? It's funny you mention character collecting. I used to be a focus collector for the character Bossk from Star Wars. So I know what you mean about the owners not wanting to change clothes for their chosen focus.... why would they? Makes sense.

At least the aftermarket seems to be picking up on the fact that people want stain protection now. And Volks also seems to be getting better about it too. But stains still happen ad I am glad they make replacement parts available for them. They just need to hurry up and make more pieces available for the DDdy bodies! I'd love to swap out the thighs on my poor Yoko. It would be much easier than doing the Oxy10 treatments but those seem to be working wonders on her. Seems her previous owner may have been a character collector and never took off her default outfit.

Thanks for your reply Arrex, it all made good sense.

Something tells me Bossk wouldn't look as cute in Saber's maid outfit.

Volks seems to be lining their Dollfie Dream outfits more lately, but there are still a lot of tightly fitting black outfits with no lining. They seem to have particularly transfer-prone black dyes. It would have been great if they figured out how to line Yoko's tiny shorts. Her outfit is not conducive to the use of a body stocking. Now that Dollfie Dreams are getting more attention, maybe Volks will take staining concerns more into consideration.

Those Super Dollfie Dream one-offs are spectacular! I've been tempted to get a pair of Volks' wings. Black ones for Aoi of course.

Although I wouldn't leave a Dollfie in her default outfit these days, Volks has offered a number of outfits that don't turn up too often as figures, Like Dark Sakura or Rin in her school uniform and red coat. These might tempt character collectors to change their Dollfie's clothes sometimes.

Volks does seem to be more aware of the need for stain protection lately. Mari has some protective wear for under her skirt and shirt. Wish Volks would do some white or skin tone tops and tights. I've got some outfits like the shrine maiden set, that stain on the upper back. Not only would a pair of white tights be great for under Yui's black tights, i could use them instead of the black tights. Then again, I can probably find items like that somewhere.

There have been a number of anime characters released in the Super Dollfie Range

Fukuzawa Yumi from Maria-mite

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd10/yumi.php

Sachiko from Maria-mite

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd13/sachiko.php

Chii from Chobits

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd10/chii.php

Suigintou, Souseiseki, Suiseiseki, Shinku and Hina Ichigo Rozen Maidens

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd10/shinku.php

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd10/suiseiseki.php

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd10/souseiseki.php

http://www.angelden.net/volks/yosd/hinaichigo.php

http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd13/suigintou.php

Most of these had a circulation of under a thousand units in total. I think there were 250 Chii and 500 Suigintou's for instance. Compared to DD release numbers I think these are much smaller. And incidently my Suigintou cost a buttload moar than Saber cost me...

The Rozen Maidens were the last out in Dollpa 18 in Dec 2007 DD Saber by comparison was released in 2008 as I indicated marking the start of the turning point.
