Gunter Posted January 12, 2013 Now, let me just get this straight. I love Volks. I actually have no problems with pretty much how they do anything. I appreciate them existing and making the dolls enough that everything else doesn't truly matter to me. But, we all have disappointments over things. So, this is a thread marking disappointments with dolls or fullsets, or even outfits that you got from Volks that you just wish had something a little better. I'm sure we all have a fullset or something we wish was different. I have a total of one real disappointment. I wish Volks would have made Saber Alter with her armor. I never felt satisfied with my Alter without her glorious armor, and it always ate at me because she simply felt incomplete. I remember when they showed the teaser I was hoping for one thing (If you saw my posts on DoA, you would know it was true too): I wanted Saber Alter in her armor. Their first release was nice, and I do like that outfit, but to me she isn't quite right unless in her armor. I know Saber does dress casually, but that isn't what you actually think of when you think of Saber, now is it? I want her put up in her armor, showing off her kingly glory--not just a random dress that I do admit I like, but left me so disappointed. I simply never think I'll be happy with having Alter without her armor, and I do believe Volks could easily do it if they set their minds to it. Maybe something awesome will happen and a third release with finally create the proper Alter I want, but till then I think I'll be left wanting more.

All the other Saber's got their armour pieces, except the two Saber Alters. What the hell Volks? Strife212 Posted January 12, 2013 2nd version of Saber Alter is my least favorite, I too wish it came with Armour. Well, at least she got Black Excalibur! There is actually an armored gauntlet out there for Saber Alter though. http://pandhion.sakura.ne.jp/3041.html I own it but haven't assembled it yet! http://i.imgur.com/pfik8.jpg Dolls: Saber, Saber Alter, Saber Lily, Saber Extra, Saber Alter 2nd, Aozaki Aoko, Alice Kuonji, Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuki Nagato
DivinitaAria Posted January 12, 2013 Hmm, one thing I don't like about Volks (I love them regardless though!) is the craftsmanship of some of their outfits. Examples include really small seam allowances which then causes the unraveling fabric to be visible. Or on the Cherished Rose dress set, the blouse has a serged edge by where it snaps, but it's not folded over and sewn, just the raw, serged edge is visible. If that makes sense. Strife212 Posted January 12, 2013 Ahh, that would be cool! I'd love to see a custom made one. Dolls: Saber, Saber Alter, Saber Lily, Saber Extra, Saber Alter 2nd, Aozaki Aoko, Alice Kuonji, Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuki Nagato
DJStarstryker Posted January 13, 2013 I'm kinda glad they didn't make Saber Alter look the way she looks in Fate/Stay Night, to be honest. She pretty much just looks like original Saber, but paler skin and hair, amber eyes, black armor, and this evil look to her face. She doesn't look pretty like Saber usually does anymore. Anyway, my main disappointment with Volks is when they don't line dark stuff with white. Or, if they do, when they don't do it completely. Really sick and tired of getting stains on dolls that I have to clean off, or having to deal with body suits underneath. Are you ready to rock? ^_^

Really sick and tired of getting stains on dolls that I have to clean off, or having to deal with body suits underneath. Yeah, I'm disappointed they don't make sure their dark clothes don't stain in general (stains are somewhat inevitable, but not all dark fabric easily stains the vinyl). The dolls are so expensive and valuable, but the very clothes they come with can easily damage them I think there is probably a separate department that designs and makes the clothes and they don't think about whether the fabric they choose will stain the dolls. Nigoki Posted January 13, 2013 No plugsuits for the Evangelion girls, or even just hairclips for Asuka. I've seen some really impressive customs around, but have yet to track down anyone who's willing to make them on commission or anything .
Crystaltiger Posted January 13, 2013 Currently my biggest disappointment is the clasp on the back of Saber Extra's waist piece. Lots of people have told stories of it breaking off but mines was hella hard to get onto her and after having her default outfit on for 3 weeks I decided to change her into something more casual. I had an even HARDER time trying to unclasp it and instead of breaking off the whole gold piece bent! So I can't use it anymore because its so weak that if I even try to clasp it back on it will break in half and be no good....but I guess currently its still no good since I can't use it? lol and yeah I was really surprised that Saber Alter didn't come with her armor, especially the second time around. Anna-neko Posted January 13, 2013 I had an even HARDER time trying to unclasp it and instead of breaking off the whole gold piece bent! So I can't use it anymore because its so weak that if I even try to clasp it back on it will break in half and be no good.... which is why the instruction sheet recommends taking apart her bust instead, to just take off the entire 'corset' bit as one closed thing? Anyways, I'm annoyed at some of their outfits being marketed as to fit everyone (DD and SD girls for example) and you get something that really is the most awkward fit on your DD. just... gggggrr! If I just spent more on my doll's clothes than on my own, at least they could fit well!
mistyaera Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) I've only had one true disappointment which was a coveted outfit I bought... it stained my girl's hand right away. D: Poor Mariko has a blue hand now (until her new ones come in!) kymaera Posted January 13, 2013 1) Staining: They are very haphazard and have some outfits that are horrid, some that are excellent and some that are so mixed. For example, Alna's default outfit is nicely lined..except for the straps that will stain. 2) Quality: For the most part, they're good, but some of the stuff has big flaws. The biggest example that I can think of is Mari's glasses which were so flimsy that I doubt many have survived by now if they've been used much. Another example, the pin on the clash for the gangster set was so thin that it fell off the first time that I opened it. Or another one is that I lost two buttons off the nurse outfit because they were sewn on so poorly. It may be quality control in some cases, an example of which is the Saber Alter wigs which some including myself had issues with them being too small, many were just right and I think I even saw a post or two about too big. The stuff about Sabers wig surprised me I agree about staining. You'd expect a manufacturer of Vinyl dolls to make sure their outfits are color-fast! azalea_lady Posted January 13, 2013 How about the time I had to buy a second pair of $70 arms for my Dollfie Dream Sister because nowhere in the warnings does it tell you that unlike the legs, if the arms are a tight fit, you have to shave them down with a razor blade so they don't break when you try to put them in. The nice lady at the store explained this to me . . . after the fact.
Traveller Posted January 13, 2013 I can only thinkof two things that have disappointed me with my girls 1) Asuka's wig is a tad big for her and moves when being transported, even with a wig cap on 2) Saber Extra/nero's wig is far to tight for her. In fact after only having her for one month, i've moved her to a new wig that i like on her far more than the default wig
archeotech Posted January 13, 2013 I'm usually a bit disappointed with their default outfits, like I think Yoko's bikini top would've looked much nicer if they used a thinner fabric and had it stretch over the breasts a bit. I know they wanted it to hide the under-bust joint but that only worked from a few angles anyway. Also the clasp on the halter neck part of my Cirno's outer blue dress doesn't close, it's like the two pieces are different sizes so I'll have to get it replaced. Also her hair clip rusted really fast (it was dry and clean the whole time) and stained a little part of her wig >.< It feels like they cheap out a bit when it comes to quality of materials for outfits. And some bits just never seem to look right no matter what I do, like Saber Alter Ver. 2's ribbons that connect the dress to the neck piece, no matter what I try they just don't sit right, like they were sewn in at a weird angle. (less SFW from here) Why did they make the nipples so high on the large busts? I know they fixed it on Miki Hoshii since, but it was still quite odd, I can't think of any anime characters I saw with nipples that high so I don't know what they were basing it off of. On that note, their bums. I prefer a more shapely derrière so they just seem a bit too flat for me, but that's just personal taste, what really bothered me was the butt crack on the MDD, that's definitely too high. But my number one disappointment with volks is the lack of a darker skin option. With most BJD companies darker skin options are a given, volks just released Kanu and that was it (her skin wasn't actually much darker either), and when they did make a new skin option it's a mix of normal and white skin. Not that I'm not excited for Kos-Mos, but I would've much preferred a T-Elos TT_TT

Not in every day anime, but if you look at eroge games or ecchi/hentai anime and manga, there are plenty that put A LOT of size and detail into the nipples. Same for fan art too. There are even people who make and sell custom nipples of varying sizes for you to attach to your dd bust to make them even bigger and more detailed! It's not my personal cup of tea, I have even sanded an l bust in the past, but yeah, there is definitely a want out there for big nipples. I wasn't referring to the nipples themselves, just their placement on the breast. Usually nipples are on the center of the boob, volks puts more towards the top than the middle. baldylox Posted January 13, 2013 I'll chime in about my number one pet peeve from Volks... Staining. As others have said, we have to pay a good amount for clothing from them as it is, how much would it really cost them to make sure the clothing doesn't stain? Take for instance the two Saber maid uniforms. The first one they made didn't stain at all unless you left it on your girl for like 6 months. MANY people who own the original set told me they never had staining issues at all with theirs. But when they re-released the Saber maid set last year, it was a true stain monster. People were getting super dark stains on their grils within FIVE MINUTES of having it on them! Seriously Volks? FIVE MINUTES? Who was on QC that day those rolled off the assembly line? And we aren't talking minor light stains either. Ask Salica how badly her Elisabeth got stained by that damned maid set. Anyhow, you would think that they could choose materials that won't stain when they are charging us $70-$120 per outfit. And if not, is it that much more cost to them to line things? You can get real denim shorts from Taobao with white lining in them for like $15!!! 15 bucks! Are you listening Volks? Okay, rant on staining over. But I did think of one other thing that Volks does that annoys me to no end. Volks USA really. Their website sales/checkout system. If any one thing NEEDS to be changed, it's that archaic thing. That Yahoo based setup is the bane of anyone who has had items swiped from their cart while checking out. Is it THAT hard to have a system where once an item is in your cart, it stays there while you check out? I find it totally unacceptable that this stuff happens during click wars. The International site doesn't work that way now does it? Why are we cursed with such a crappy setup? Can someone who can write code or setup a system like Volks SHOULD be using please send them something for free so we can all have a bit less stress in our lives? Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
WoundedNight64 Posted January 13, 2013 There are three things that get me to be honest and it's probably just me who it bothers... Characters; There are a lot of popular anime/manga series that Volks could really make a mint on, but they don't make the dolls. It might be due to licensing issues or the design of the characters but still...There's a lot of opportunity here. Maybe if they had some sort of customer feedback on what people want to see? Or if they read the thread on here? Personally I also feel that since their intention is to make money they should really milk a series for all it's worth- like they do with Type-Moon. For example, they released two girls from the Nanoha series out of nine or more. The same goes for Touhou, as there are dozens of characters they could make. Remilia and Flandre are my personal favourites. Restock I hate how they went on to release more new dolls but haven't completely restocked their store. It's making prices on the after market go through the roof. Unless it's an elaborate marketing startergy to make their new releases more desirable because of the body... Outfits I haven't got my first girl yet but I've been in the market for one for two-ish years. (I gave up and am making a custom). I had really hoped to get a fullset and even entered for Natsuki v2 (Lost...) but the outfits always stopped me from getting one. They're dark and they stain and I wouldn't want to shell out for a new body after buying a fullset. Why can't they just line everything dark in white and solve everyone's problem? Okay, rant over... ^_^' At home; DDH-07 'Medea', Saving for; A body and Saber Lily ^_^ Waiting for:
