OtakuDepot Posted June 5, 2011 In a recent post by Suigetsu (http://www.dollfiedreams.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=583 the point of the DD's box came up. Balldylox gave some great info about the collector's interest in the box but I wondered what others here thought about it. I didn't want to side rail the other post so I figured I'd start a new one. Do you keep your boxes? How about the packaging inside the box? If you don't keep the box they came in, have you though about selling them? I wonder how much you could get for a box? $25? $50? more? I have all of my girls boxes except for Yoko's. I adopted her from another seller and the box wasn't available but she came in a White Album Rina box. I've been tempted to sell that box since I don't even have a Rina. It's one of the nicer ones - not the yellow box. I wondered if it was worth anything? I don't keep the plastic bags or ribbons but I do keep the paperwork. Thankfully the boxes don't take up much room once you collapse them flat so I do keep them. How about you? Strife212 Posted June 5, 2011 I keep the box and absolutely everything that was inside! Even the plastic bags All my girls were brand new in original packaging when I got them. I would certainly buy a secondhand Dollfie but I don't think I would buy one without the box. I don't know why, it's a really minor part if I think about it. By the way, even though I keep them, I really hate the standard Volks yellow box, it looks so horrible! The "special" boxes are so much nicer (Saber, Saber Lily, Yoko, Nia, Nanoha, Reimu, etc) Dolls: Saber, Saber Alter, Saber Lily, Saber Extra, Saber Alter 2nd, Aozaki Aoko, Alice Kuonji, Haruhi Suzumiya, Yuki Nagato
Nakitaninja Posted June 5, 2011 I keep the box and absolutely everything that was inside! Even the plastic bags ditto. Never tried to sell 'em. Since they are limiteds I think you might be able to get money for them but I'm not sure what secondary market shoppers are lookin' for? I know there are some collectors on here who have secondary market girls so it can't hurt to ask if they're looking for something- just remember to host the sale elsewhere! *^^*

I know if I saw someone selling a Yoko box I would want it. Sounds funny since I really never see myself selling the girls or using the box. haha I'm tempted to put the Rina box on Ebay and see what happens. littlebearries Posted June 5, 2011 I usually keep the boxes around... although my Alna does not have a box because I bought her second hand and the first owner got rid of it... on that same note though, my first Alna (I had one before, sold her to get another doll... and regretted the HECK out of it) didn't have her box either because the box she was shipped in got totally smashed, as did her company box (thankfully she was fine)... but I didn't see the point in keeping it. Having collected resin dolls for so long, though, I've always thought of the Dollfie Dream boxes as really flimsy (at least the ones I've gotten)... they're made of thin cardboard, and, as in the example of my first Alna, don't hold up that well. I much prefer resin doll boxes, and am much more likely to keep those around... although I dread shipping them... they weigh a ton and cost a fortune to ship. Suigetsu Posted June 5, 2011 All my boxes so far are just basic body boxes (Clear Yellow / Pink plastic) so there was no need in saving them. Now I will be getting an Airi in a Yukino box, and I really do not think I will keep the boxes. I used to save the boxes for my figures in the past but just don't have room for them anymore. Unless the box was wooden and had hinges I can't find myself saving a box for a doll. I know that for collectors value you should save the box, but I collect dolls to play with and never intend on departing with them.
baldylox Posted June 5, 2011 Being a collector at heart, I always keep boxes. I've always collected *something* over the years whether it be coins, keys, toys or Dollfies and it seems that the closer it is to off the shelf condition, the more value it holds. I think most hobbies that involve larger amounts of money center on condition and completeness. I even keep those yellow and clear flimsy boxes from Volks. I want something in case I ever have to sell a DD. I know I won't ever plan to do that but you never know when a crisis will hit. I have a walkin closet that all my boxes are. I keep all the DD stuff there as well as my vintage SW stuff and all the boxes for my anime figures. Yes, I'm a packrat with my collectibles. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

MaxArcher Posted June 6, 2011 We tossed the blank body boxes, since there isn't really any collector value to them or anything. We keep all of our figure boxes, for storage, transport, and possible sale. It's not as necessary for Beato, since we have plastic boxes for all our DD stuff and I don't plan on selling her, but I couldn't bring myself to throw away the packaging from an $600 doll, so it's all still there. Oh, and yeah, these yellow boxes suck. I really wish they'd spend the extra buck and give us nice boxes on all the character DDs. Nakitaninja Posted June 6, 2011 Oh, and yeah, these yellow boxes suck. I really wish they'd spend the extra buck and give us nice boxes on all the character DDs. ...and a pillow! You pay the same for an SD13 and it comes with two pillows for transport. I get that vinyl isn't as fragile but for the same price a pillow or two is warranted. XD Yeah, you're right! I guess you only get the slip for the SD13's. If you were to compare them to a base model Yukino or Aoi then it's about a $300 difference. O_O;;; Fair enough. Well, I'm about to solve the pillow problem anyhow. ^^
mitsuki Posted June 6, 2011 I think I can build a DD box castle. I love the artwork on them, so I have all of mine. Some of the artwork is stylized cartoon versions of Dollfie Dream characters. I like seeing how the artist portrays them.

Nakitaninja Posted June 6, 2011 That is soooooo awesome!!!! I loved building forts as a kid. Then it's time to play some Super Mario Brothers 3 and order Dominoes pizza. Watch The Goonies. I loved being a kid. I am all over this DD box fort/castle of awesomeness!
Galvatim Posted June 6, 2011 I'm saving all my DD boxes. I'm planning to move in the next year or so, so I want something to keep my girls safe in. I also saved a giant box in which Yui was shipped to me, which would hold about six Dollfie boxes. I really like the special boxes like Yui, Rina, or Yoko have. The yellow boxes aren't as nice. Milk Posted June 7, 2011 I only have one DD box, but I keep it. With everything it came with. I think that's just a habit I got from my mom. She keeps boxes of stuff she buys as well. I think you just gave away your age I'm big on saving all boxes, not only for my DDs but all the other stuff like nendo's, figmas, PVCs, Mechs, original GK's, other misc toy.... the only boxes I ever throw out are completed plastic model kits. fenrir z78 Posted June 7, 2011 I keep the boxs that all my DD things came in. Not so much for resale but to use on something. Like the long brown box that a DD base body is shiped in is the right size for storeing old cd cases. When your poor you learn not to throw things out
baldylox Posted June 7, 2011 Well, after reading all this about who saves what and why, I figured it was time to actually SHOW some of these "boxes" we keep talking about saving! So here is my box collection in the walkin closet in my computer room: To the left are all my DD boxes - Looking right into the closet are all my vintage SW stuff in cardboard boxes and on top of that are more anime figure boxes - And off to the right, even more anime figure boxes. So yeah, I collect boxes. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.

littlebearries Posted June 8, 2011 Billy I'm sorry... but... YOTSUBA!!!!! I suppose I could photograph my boxes too... hmm.... it might not be as interesting though. I have far fewer as I've just started collecting figures (Nendoroids, Figmas, random others) I probably will keep Noumi's box though. It has her cute little picture on it. Seeing your yellow plastic DD boxes made me laugh though... I remember those... and they haven't changed in yeeeeeaaaaaaaaars!!!
OtakuDepot Posted June 8, 2011 Really nice collection there Billy! I'm almost regretting that I threw out all of my PVC and Figma boxes when I got them. I came home from work and found I received my 2 Mirai Suenaga Figmas today, now I'm wondering if I should keep the boxes? hehe Otaku Depot's growing family. “Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.” ― Terry Pratchett, Jingo
