DD-ifying song lyrics

I was playing around with song lyrics with a friend. Here is an alternative take on David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes:

I've heard a rumour from Ground Control (reference to Major Tom and Ground Control from his Space Oddity song)

Oh no, don't say it's true (He lost a DD lottery)

 

They got a message from the Action Man (He probably means Volks itself.)

"I'm happy, hope you're happy too

I've loved all I've needed to love (He loves his current DDs and thinks he can quit getting more DDs.)

Sordid details following" (He wants to organize the details of all his DDs and post them in the database.)

 

The shrieking of nothing is killing (Volks doesn't say anything when you lose the lottery. It is like the silence is deafening. It can be really sad to lose a lottery.)

Just pictures of Jap girls in synthesis and I (I think he means that he might just go ahead and try for a DD that is being made now for the next Dolpa since he lost this lottery.)

Ain't got no money and I ain't got no hair (He can't get the limited wig he wanted because he doesn't have enough money.)

But I'm hoping to kick but the planet it's glowing (He wants to stop getting DDs but the glowing reviews on the forum makes him second guess himself.)

Hitting an all-time low (I am pretty sure he means that some limiteds have gone down in price on Y!JA so he can get some he has been after for years.)

I'll stay clean tonight (He is saying he doesn't need this next preorder DD.)

But the little green wheels are following me (He can't stop thinking about the preorder DD.)

Oh no, not again (He lost the next lottery.)

I'm stuck with a valuable friend (He has Mariko and is worried if he should trade her or keep her. He feels stuck. She would be hard to buy back.)

I'm happy, hope you're happy too

One flash of light but no smoking pistol (Maybe he tried the click war but lost the outfit he wanted.)

I never done good things

I never done bad things (He can't define whether his DDs acquisitions are good or bad. They cost a lot but they make him happy)

I never did anything out of the blue (He agonizes over buying each DD and doesn't impulse pre-order or impulse enter a lottery.)

Want an axe to break the ice (He is frustrated with Volks because they won't restock base bodies.)

Wanna come down right now (He wants his floating heads to have bodies or just sell them so the whole matter is finally settled.)

Haha, seriously. I saw one blogger once say something along the lines of, "If collecting anime DVDs and manga is like snorting crack, then Dollfies are like snorting platinum bars." (Though frankly, I'd pick a DD over half an ounce of platinum any day! )

The music is sacred. It is his soul and tremendous hard work in audible, tangible form. So I feel a little guilty "reinterpreting it." I think if drawing attention to it like this at least gets someone to listen to his music, it might be worth it.

 

I have heard that a great lyricist can write in a way that allows the listener to interpret their own meaning and extrapolate a meaning that touches them specifically as if the author is talking to them directly. This is how a song can be "married" to your soul and how the song can mean so much to a person.

 

Though frankly, I'd pick a DD over half an ounce of platinum any day!

Anouc, I was talking to a friend about how people can get stressed about DDs. I have had an amazing time interacting with people in the community. I told him that no matter what happens, I am happy. If I don't get a DD at first and have to keep trying, it is still fun. I told him "I'm happy, hope you're happy too." And then I heard "Ashes to Ashes" in my head. I wanted to show him the lyrics to tell him why this song came to mind. Then I thought about how the song could be interpreted in a DD sort of way.
