PlasticFantastic Posted January 24, 2013 So this is something I'd like to do, cos it'd add a little extra pizzaz to some of my girls. And I'm not talking crazy colours, I'm thinking more like a light pink/blush colour on the nails with potentially some gloss over top. I've talked to littlebearries and misskale about this a little to get an idea for what I'd need and the steps I'd have to follow, but I am curious what some of you other lovelies do or would do. Also what supplies you would get~ I have a couple cans of MSC at home, and I'm not far from an art store where I could get brushes, paints, thinners, etc. A new frontier for DD fun and silliness~ Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! Ozaki Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) I've found strange that almost nobody has manicure for their DDs. I do it to almost all my resin dolls. Then I got my Obitsu and also did some manicure on her because honestly, those hands are so easy to pop off. The materials I use are pastels (red/brown ones), acrylics (white or cream for the details), and acrylic gloss. The way I do it is the following: 1. Two layers of MSC. 2. Then I blush the hands with the pastels. Observe how are the colors distributed in your own hands: your fingertips and knuckles will be more red, so apply more pastel there. I use make-up sponges so the blushing will look even. 3. Seal again. 4. Apply the acrylics details with a very fine brush like Volks 01 (on the fingernails). 5. Seal. 6. Gloss. That's what I do anyway, you don't have to do it like that but I thought I could share my own experience =) Edited January 24, 2013 by Guest
Cauldroness Posted January 24, 2013 I think it's because a lot of DD owners like the anime-girl aspect of their DDs, and anime girls rarely have manicures. DD face-ups are usually full of bold lines and often lack lip color, just like an anime character. Manicures are more common with BJDs, because BJDs are more realistic in general: their face-ups typically have a softer style, with more complex shading and finer brushwork, utilizing more colors and layering techniques. My DD girls are anime girls -- even if they ever did get a manicure, it would be without blushing. But it'd be interesting to see more "realistic" DD girls. PlasticFantastic Posted January 25, 2013 Thank you Ozaki! I don't think I would blush the hands because then I would need to blush the bodies and I have too many! @_@ but I'm glad to see your method as far as sealing and painting. ^_^ Please visit my YouTube channel for helpful DD tips, tutorials, and reviews! baldylox Posted January 25, 2013 I'd actually like to do this for a few of my more girly girls someday. My Minako MDD actually came with her default hands and feet manicured. They have a very light pink color to them an dit's not too easy to see unless you pay attention. But I really thought it made her that much prettier and I wouldn't mind having a few sets of regular DD hands done like this. I'll have to check with my local painter buddy and see if she can do a couple for me. Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. Just make sure to not blush the bottom part of the hand (the one close to the "wrist ball") and make the blushing light. It'll look natural. However if you only want the nails painted, then use either pastel and erase carefully with a kneded eraser, or use acrylic paint.
archangeli Posted January 25, 2013 I've been wanting to manicure the hands on my Volks SD16 girl (since she has gorgeous hands and really nicely sculpted nails) but I must confess I've never had any desire to put manicures on my DD's. It's probably because I handle their hands a lot more and I'm worried I'll chip it? I look forward to your experimenting PF! Oh aeh very similar to Ozakis methode ^_^ But i must say it feels a little bit clammy(?) after years?!? Not sure why. Maybe it was a wrong style to use msc (its near 4years ago xD) Or there is to much msc on the fingertips... I am not sure. https://www.facebook.com/fantasydolls?ref=hl ☆〜(ゝ。∂) ♥ Dollfie Dream Faceups ~ ☆
