Who was your first Dollfie Dream?

This may not be the run of the mill question for this thread, but I thought it was a good place for it.

 

I have know about DD's for almost a year now and have been in love ever since I first saw them. I myself, do not have a doll (yet, my goal is to get my first this year!). Just looking through pictures and seeing sculpts and clothes and face-ups I like give me butterflies!

 

I want to know what it was like when you got your first dollfie dream. Did you get her from Volks? Or second hand? Did you acbleepulate clothes and accessories before hand? Did you buy her separately (Head first, then body) or as a whole? What was it like when you knew who she was going to be and and you named her and put her on your shelf for the first time in a new place she'd call home? What was the first meet up you attended with her like?

 

Jeez, that's a lot o questions ^^;; Sorry guys, I'm just so excited and so close to getting my new girl!

My first DD was Mashiro Mito. I missed out on her during her initial release but I guess there were some canceled orders and so she was up for sale on Volks international a few weeks afterwards and I snatched her up as fast as I could. I had bought some outfits and wigs for her arrival but I fell in love with her default set so I kept her in that most of the time.

I love the DD fullsets and hope to have one some day... but my first DD is a DDH-03 in white skin (new), with a medium bust DDII body (second hand). A friend sold me the body last year. I just bought the head blank from Volks, and she doesn't have a personality to me yet as a character, but I am hoping a faceup will change all that. It's always difficult for me to know a doll's personality before it has a faceup. I got her a large bust too, because I always pictured my first DD girl having one.

 

I have absolutely nothing specifically for her yet, no clothes, wigs, eyes or accessories! But I already have resin BJDs similar to her in size, so she won't be drastically different from them, I don't think. I'm sure I will feel the same about her as I do my BJDs in time. I've wanted a DD for ages, probably since the first time I saw one back in 2005-06.

 

She can probably wear a lot of the wigs I already have, and hopefully some clothes, but I will have to get her some eyes!!

My first (I say my first but it’s the first in the house) was DD Asuka. I got her from Mandrake for 75K yen (not including PnP)

 

But my first was DD Aoi V1 got her from ebay for just under her normal price ( got stung with custom fees though so she was all together £500+)

My wonderful Nanoha and Ilya were my first DDs. Had to include both of them as I won them both from the international lottery for Dolpa Kyoto 6.

I started with Haruhi as a major Haruhi fan and figure collector. Then I added the other Haruhi girls to complete the set. At that point, I thought I was done.

 

Then as a major Evangelion fan, I decided to get the Eva girls. Once again, I promised myself that I was only interested in characters that I loved from anime.

 

Then I saw Yuki Morikawa and she was the first DD I got that I knew nothing about character-wise. The first one I renamed (Suzume). That opened a can of worms, because I then was "permitting" myself to get girls that were not from anime that I loved.

 

Now I have 19 DDs and Aoko on the way.

Saber extra is my first. I'd been interested in DDs for a while, but when I finally saw her at the dealer at a convention, I just couldn't stop thinking about her all day. So I took her home.

 

So glad I did. XD

Both my girls are second hand.

 

I saved for ages, and hunted carefully for even longer, before I found Agatha. She was on Den of Angels for a killer price, considering that she had not only head and body but two pairs of eyes, three wigs, and two sets of clothes, so I pounced. It was pretty surreal to finally get her after so long! Especially since I had previously assumed my custom Agatha Heterodyne project would be a long ways down the line instead of my first. I knew who she was going to end up the second I saw her DoA listing, but it took quite a while to get her to really feel like herself, and to be honest I've resigned myself to her being my ongoing work in progress. Between putting together stuff that suits her, making any of the plethora of outfits she has in the Girl Genius comic she's based on, finding and making props, and potentially upgrading things like faceup, eyes, and wig periodically, she'll keep me busy for eons.

 

One little side note: most people I've talked to are pretty surprised at how big DDs are when they get their first, unless they've either had resins in the same scale (in which case DDs's light weight surprises them) or saw someone else's DDs first. I actually had been imagining what a DD would be like and had pictured the scale pretty much spot on, so my reaction was more like, "Yes, I was right!". I was however thrown by the size of Agatha's bum, since my original plans were for a DDII instead of DDDy, and regardless of that hadn't realized that her hip measurements were actually larger than her bust measurement.

DD Sirius was my first, purchased her head second hand. I would always look at the head, and imagine what she would look like completed. Seeing DD pictures helps, but seeing one up close is an experience all its own.

I bought Zoe (DD Aoi) from Volks USA. She was in her slip for a bit until I bought a batch of clothes. I'd pretty much come up with her name/personality while I was waiting and she really hasn't changed very much. The first meet was actually resin-dominated. I don't recall if there was even another DD at it or not.

My first Dollfie Dream was my custom DDH-01 Eimii, by Momo-man. I purchased the head with eyes, a wig, and a custom outfit off YJA. And during the time it took for everything to arrive I sat debating if I should get a MDD or Parabox 40cm body for her. Ultimately went for the Parabox body and have never regretted that choice.

 

Didn't really purchase any new outfits for her until the Petite Strawberry Milk Heart outfit went up for sale at Volks International, and ever since that it has gone downhill. >_<

I got into BJD some years ago at the end of summer/early fall. I kept looking around what kind of doll I want to have. I vaguely knew about DDs but the price range of second hand dolls was too much for me and I didn't like the DDH-02 or DDH-03 either, so I dismissed it after a while. Few months of proper research in I managed to narrowed down which resin dolls interested me the most, most of them were in the MSD range. However I promised myself to not buy one or anything related to it until the new year when winter ended, just to be super sure of my decision, y'know?

 

Well, guess what happened in February 2011? Beatrice was announced and as a big Umineko fan I was intrigued at first sight. I kept having these on-and-off thoughts of 'She's so pretty I absolutely want her--', 'But she's so expensive...' and 'No! It must be a sign that she pops up when I decided to get a BJD!'

In the end I gave in and went for the lottery. I was nervous if Lady Luck would be so generous to me or not. Due to my money-pincher self I even told myself to not pursue her on the second-hand market if her price sky-rockets. Well, I was lucky enough to get her directly from Volks (together with her alternative outfit). I'm glad I got the DD I wanted the most as my first (and still only) doll.

My first was Maria from Umineko MDD. She was full-set, second hand at about 40K

 

It was a really bizarre purchase if you stop to think about it - my "holy grail" was a DD, and the character Maria? I hate that chara in the Umineko series, not gonna lie! ... but something in the face-mold and those giant blue eyes just ... called me into pushing the 'buy it. buy it now!" button

 

While waiting for her to arrive acquired a few outfits, and once she was here even busted out the rusty sewing skills & made her a couple things myself

I want to know what it was like when you got your first dollfie dream. Did you get her from Volks? Or second hand?

 

I got my custom DDdy 01 head Manami secondhand from the Figurefm classifieds. I had been oogling DD's for almost a year before I made the jump to buy Manami.

 

Did you acbleepulate clothes and accessories before hand?

 

Nope. All she had was the clothing she came with. It took me about 2 months before I finally found some DDdy clothing... back then it was hard to find clothes to fit those girls.

 

Did you buy her separately (Head first, then body) or as a whole?

 

She came already put together and ready to go!

 

What was it like when you knew who she was going to be and and you named her and put her on your shelf for the first time in a new place she'd call home?

 

She already had her name when I got her and I didn't want to change it because it was so cool sounding. But when she arrived I was blown away with how big she really was. And at how pretty. It was instant love for me.

 

What was the first meet up you attended with her like?

 

It was pretty neat but it was a 4 hour drive one way to go. But I met up with the girl who I bought Manami from and we got to be good friends. People there hadn't seen many DD's before so Manami was pretty popular the first few meets she went to since she was the ONLY DD there.

 

Local meets were neat too since no one here had ever seen a DD in person. They were all super nice to me and Manami and we had a good time.

I only have two girls, and they came together almost the same time. Technically Rei (who is a custom WS DDH02) had her body first. Chi (DDH01 custom) was the first head I bought. She is still waiting on her persocom ears though. Sooo I guess that gives Rei the first place slot.

Rin Tohsaka was the first for me. SakuraSylph and I won her from the VolksUSA lottery back when she originally came out in 2008 or whenever it was. We were going to an anime convention in Los Angeles, so we asked Volks if they'd hold onto her and we'd pick her up in person. We bought some extra goodies for her that day and then took her all the way home to the East Coast of the US after the anime convention.

 

Some of our girls were new when we bought them and some were secondhand, but as long as the doll is in great condition, there really isn't much difference in getting them new.

Saber (the original version) was my first. Second hand. Wasn't pleased with Azone's HAF Saber so I decided to snag the DD. I had nothing for her when she arrived and she's never stopped eating to make up for it since.

My first Dollfie Dream was a HDD-01 on a MDD body on eBay. I fell inlove with her at first sight. She has and is still my lovely sweetheart today When she came to my college campus, I already knew I was going to name her Razzlyn after a character from my favorite video game 'Psychonauts' named "Raz". Also, she came with some clothing but it didn't do her justice, so I made sure I bought her pajamas before she got here so she would be nice and toasty

My first DD was Ayano, a HDD-03 on a DDDy body. I bought her blank from VolksUSA, and it turned out that the bodies were out of stock at the time, so she was a blank, and then painted floating head for a bit. Once I got her a body I was going to sew for her, but then it turned out we moved, and she spent about a month naked while I was dealing with that. I eventually bought her an outfit so that she had something to wear while I was busy. Since it took a little while to get her all together I had plenty of time to think about her personality, which I based partly on my own and partly on her appearance. I also didn't name her until she was at least a painted head and body.

 

The first meet I took her to didn't happen for quite a while, so I actually had three DDs with me. There are about five or six others in my group that own DDs, but they also have resins. I didn't see many other DDs until recently, but still I have always been treated well and as part of the group.

My wife's first DD was an MDD with an 04 head, bought in person at the Volks store in LA. My first DD was an SQ Labs Kaoru head with a DDdy body.

My husband and I began collecting the larger dolls (60cm vinyls) in summer of 2010. Previously I had been into 12-17 inch fashion type dolls, but anime and figures brought me to DDs and Obitsus.

 

My first one was to be Miu Amaha. I entered the lottery and won (she was my 10th anniversary gift), but the long 3 month wait for Volks USA led me to Misheru - my actual 1st DD in hand. She is a custom DDH-01 head I bought from Ebay and a second-hand body at the time. She is very special to me.

 

He began with Obitsus (60cm and his beloved Mariko), but has several DDs in his collection, too. I am trying to think who his first DD was. It was either Yukino (Ui) or Neris. He fell in love with the original sketch of Mariko Sensei and that brought him to the DD side of things. It was a long wait for her, but she is part of our family, too.

 

At the present time, we have 41 DDs total (29 mine and 12 his) and 5 incoming (3 mine and 2 his) in the H&M House of Vinyl. We also have 22 Obitsus (1 incoming) and 2 resins between us.

My first girl is a HDD-04 with a faceup by me on a DDII body. I bought her about 3 years ago and she is still my favorite.

 

Did you get her from Volks?

Yes I did. Me and my friend Amaris were huge fans of the 1/6th scale dollfies and always talked about getting a super dollfie but never found one we liked. Three years ago, after being out of the doll hobby for a long time, we discovered Dollfie Dreams and saved up.

 

Did you acbleepulate clothes and accessories before hand?

I bought one outfit and a wig before Amaris and I had enough to go and buy everything I needed to finish her doll and mine.

 

Did you buy her separately (Head first, then body) or as a whole?

Amaris and I did one giant shipment and bought heads, both bodies, eyes, and all the things we needed to do faceups for them. We also got a few things to take care of them.

 

What was it like when you knew who she was going to be and and you named her and put her on your shelf for the first time in a new place she'd call home? I stared at her for hours >_>;; since I was so proud of the faceup I had done. I think my family thought I was a lil crazy.

 

What was the first meet up you attended with her like? I felt so out of place. The only meet I knew about was at Anime Detour which is the convention I attend every year. Saddly this meet is a DoA meeting and Lumière is off topic so I felt so out of place and no one really cared when it was my turn to introduce my girl, however I did get credit for being the only one there with a Volks doll XD. I have yet to attend a meeting that has more than just me with a DD XD. I also have to suck it up and be willing to travel a ways to attend one since I only know Amaris around here that likes DDs.
