Shipping! , I need advice!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just need a quick advice here, A buyer requested me to ship her purchased items to her friend, reason was, If I directly shipped it to her its more expensive and the customs fees are really hellbent crazy *(she wants it declared and shipped with insurance)

his/her friend in question runs an import business in turn will save her some extra money.

Also additional info. the buyer is quite good when it comes to payment, just paid full in a layaway and finished already. I just want to ask some advice and what are risks regarding an item to be sent not to the buyer but to an another party. and what actions could I do to protect myself as well

Thank you.

Since its being insured and declared at the full value, there's no danger to you here.

To protect yourself when shipping, the basics are simply to get insurance and declare the value. If the buyer wants it at a different address/addressee, that's no skin off your nose.

Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!

I agree with shinegamix.

Plus, I suggest you to write

Buyer's name+surname C/O receiver's name+surname

And if the nation is the same and there's the name of the person stated on the bill, for paypal you *should* be safe

If you ship to an address other than the verified address on the buyer's Paypal account (I'm assuming that's how they paid you), then you will be liable if something goes wrong. If the package gets lost from you to their friend, or from their friend to them, and they decide to go after you, it's highly likely that Paypal will side with the buyer.

Heck, they could even claim that you sent to the wrong person, and even with email evidence, Paypal would side with them. Hopefully you have a very honest buyer.

Sorry, but I've seen this happen a LOT. As the seller, you HAVE to protect yourself. Shipping to their verified address with tracking, insurance and full declared value is the only surefire way to have all your bases covered.

Wow, really? Even with the email originating from the same email address as the paypal account is registered to?

That being said, as long as it's insured for the full amount, this still can't hurt you. Theft in transit is covered.

Sorry, just saw this and wanted to answer questions.

Yep, because Paypal will tell you that emails can be forged/falsified, and that under their TOS you're not covered when you send to a non-verified address. Even if the buyer asks you to.

That being said, as long as it's insured for the full amount, this still can't hurt you. Theft in transit is covered.

Except that if the tracking shows that the item was received by the address that you put on the insurance forms, as far as the postal service is concerned, it wasn't stolen. You'd have to take a situation like this to court to get it resolved, and it's nearly impossible when the defendants are out of country.

I'm not trying to dump on everyone's parade here. I've seen and read a lot of stories (some pretty horrific, like a $10K purse switcharoo), and had a few mishaps myself, and frankly it's better to be well informed than assume something and wind up losing your money.

If it was paid with PayPal, sending to an address other than the one registered on PayPal is very risky.

She should ask her friend to pay you, and then you refund the money back to her.

Assuming that you still have the money on hand, of course.
