misskale Posted February 2, 2013 I decided to try a sort of cat girl after doing my elf, and had intended on doing it with an 01. Instead I changed my mind and wanted to do an anthropomorphized cat, so I went with the 04. First I had to find the right clay color, which took... hours. When I was happy with the color I let the clay cool until tonight. Then I started sculpting. This is what it looked like after baking with eyes and things to see proportions. After sanding: Now I just need to paint it. I tried with chalk pastels and I found I DEFINITELY have to seal the sculpey first because it does not erase the same way and I had to take rubbing alcohol to it. katnaper Posted February 2, 2013 Wow. Very interesting. Was the clay sculpted on directly to the DD head and baked? Sorry if that sounds like a dumb question but since I know next to nothing about stuff like that I am quite curious as to what the process is like. My brain is telling me that the head will melt so it must have been done differently. I am such a noob. We have our own BLOG. Please visit us at the House of Nyan by clicking this link or our sig above. See you there. Or, come see what Nyanko-sensei is up to at the Katnaper's Den

Since sculpey bakes at 275 for a short amount of time it's perfectly safe for DD vinyl. If you're crazy like Mitsuki you'll do it on a limited head though >_<; I actually use a mix of sculpeyIII and sculpey ultralight. It allows me to sand the clay after baking, it's a little flexible and it doesn't severely droop before it's baked.
Jezrah Posted February 2, 2013 Oh, interesting, an anthro DD! I'm just starting to learn about sculpting so this is fascinating.

chibinezumi Posted February 2, 2013 This is very neat! There have not been many examples of building onto DD heads. You are quite good at this by the way! Will be interesting to see more.
Milk Posted February 2, 2013 That's a mod you don't see around everyday. So far even the clay colour looks close to the NS colour. misskale Posted February 3, 2013 First, I want to thank everyone so much for the support on this! Oh, interesting, an anthro DD! I'm just starting to learn about sculpting so this is fascinating. Yeah, I got the idea from some anthro dolls that Dollmore released. I really liked how they looked and I'd been thinking about how to reshape eyes to make them smaller after seeing some of the Sabers made from 06's. Again wow. Thanks for the info. I kinda wondered how people did the mods on heads. Good to know one of the techniques. I have no ideas how many people do this like this. I think a lot of people use the tamiya epoxy putty because it's less porous after it is dry. It's definitely the biggest issue I've had, but I like that I have more time to work. neko musume. i am excited what you will do for her fur That's something I think I've figured out. I got some fake fur from etsy that's long and made to look like an owl patterning. I'm not planning on doing much fur more than the ears and tail, but I might also do a wig with built in ears depending on how much I have. This is very neat! There have not been many examples of building onto DD heads. You are quite good at this by the way! Will be interesting to see more. That's a mod you don't see around everyday. So far even the clay colour looks close to the NS colour. Curious how it'll look like after a getting a face-up. Thanks! The color was frustrating to get. it is still a little darker, but not enough that it can't be covered. I'm intending on doing something like this. Woooo thats awesome *___* ... WHich clay do you use? ... The clays we have arent much good to use for something like that?!? O__O I am using a mix of sculpey ultralight and sculpey III. That is so cool! She looks amazing! It's your fault I started doing this. ^_^; Wow! Now that's different!! You are very good at sculpting! I look forward to seeing her painted up. I also blame watching Face Off. It gives me a lot of examples on how to sculpt on faces. I never really had done much beforehand. Or at least not since the 90s... Neat!! Are you thinking of getting cat ears too later? I was going to try making them myself actually.
