Anyone else prefer the DDII body?

Recommended Posts

Nanoza

I just prefer the shape of the DDII body compared to the DDIII body. To me the DDIII body does not feel as good and looks unhealthily skinny. The legs are plump and realistic on the DDII body, but on the III the legs are a very odd unrealistic shape. The torso of the III body looks long and odd, the II body looks more realistic. What do you guys think? Am I alone in this?

As for the DD sister, I think it looks very cute!

I own one II and have only seen pictures of the III body, but from what I've seen I do prefer the look of the II body. I don't know if I would change my mind if I saw one in person, but for now I plan on looking for a II body for my 06 head. I've heard the III is more poseable though, which would be nice.

I like both... My girl Shia is on a DDII body and it suits her, I put her on a DDIII and it just didn't feel right. And vice versa with my girl Iris on the DDIII. I'm not a fan of the DDS body, though.

My body preferences are DDS, DD2, DD3.

I love the DDS for it's size and posing ability. The DD2's size is more elegant and are extremely durable, and I find the DD3 kind of tall and lanky. That works for some of my girls, but for the most part it doesn't.

I think it says something that I'd sooner sell a DD3 body than a DD2.

The DDIII arms and legs are my favorite pieces. For the torso I prefer the DDII. If I get enough money I'll have a lot of frankendollies around!

THIS

I'd agree, but I think it looks worse when people pull out the "hidden joint" of the DDII elbows and permanently keep it sticking out, not just for certain poses. Makes the doll look like it got mauled at the elbow down to the bone or something. Kinda disturbing to me.

Anyway, I don't keep my dolls naked. They tend to have most of their vinyl skin covered, so you can't see any difference between DDII and DDIII other than the elbow thing. So I prefer DDIII just for more posability. Since you can reinforce the shoulders and hips with Coolcat parts now, the durability argument in favor of the DDII simply isn't there anymore. DDIII also has the advantage of being easier to take apart, if you need to replace parts or want to swap bust piece.

It is. DDIIIs let heads tilt farther forward and back. Elbows are double jointed, allowing you to do poses you could only do with the DDII by pulling out the "hidden joint". The bust/waist bits can move more so you can have a doll laying down but with her head propped up on a hand. And the hips/legs of the DDIII actually allow you to sit your doll in crosslegged poses, which are 100% impossible with DDII.

Are you ready to rock? ^_^

Ah, they sound even more poseable than I thought! That would be nice for photographs ^_^ Is it difficult to reinforce the shoulders and hips with the Coolcat parts? Also, is there a big difference in price between the II and III? I plan on looking for just the body - in general, which would cost less?

DD III bodies will be more expensive than the DD II bodies. DD III bodies can only be found with recent limited fullsets and standard models. That would mean getting them after market and sellers usually charge quite a bit for a DD III body.

You could piece one together from individual parts as well but you would be looking at close to $400 dollars doing that. That's also assuming all parts are in stock.

DD II bodies are available from Volks International/USA (when in stock) and cost $254+ depending on which store you get it from. So to answer your question it would be the DD II body as the less expensive route.

It sounds like I'll be looking for a II body for now then. Thanks for your help!

Crosslegged poses are very easy with ddII. You just oil the joints, they move as well as DDIII. The only part of the body that cannot be posed as well for me is of course the neck joint.

DDIII for me all the way. Touch own face w/out hidden joint (big one for me), a neck that allows looking up without sacrificing friction like the aluminum mods, generally easier posing, softer vinyl for hugz, a plumper ass. I like it all.

I own both a dd3 and dd2. I find that the dd2 is much steadily built and have a much solid feel. The dd3 feels like that it is cutting corners in its production. IMO.

However, the dd2 have a slightly harder time to pose and the neck piece is yet another problem.

I personally feel as if DD2 body could last much longer than DD3

I like how the posability looks for the DDIII, but I have a DDII on order because it's cheaper and the DDIII just looks too thin for my tastes. Since I'm making a doll who might wind up doing more than a few nude photoshoots I was between a DDS and a DDII, wound up with the II simply because it was easier to find.

I think if I were making a doll who would be wearing a lot of frilly or fancy clothes I would go with the DDIII since the body shape is better designed for that.

I've never actually had a DDII body so far. I started with a DDDy body, and an MDD. My third was a DDS, and when I got her, she seemed too skinny in the waist. But I got used to her and now I like her. Members 4, 5, and 6 are on DDIII bodies. There are differences in them from DDII. In order to make them sit straighter, their upper thighs are a little weird, and they are rather skinny. But they don't really bother me. I love the posing, and their strength in holding things up. But I don't hate DDII bodies. I'm not opposed to having one, it just so happens that I didn't end up with one yet. I like that the DDII and the DDIII bodies can give different heights, so it gives more options creating characters.

I prefer DD2 and I certainly prefer DDdy version1 over the newer ones. yes, I do like the ability to pose, but many joints are floppy and the bodies are slimmer (even the DDdy).

However, I do like the softer headcaps and the lack of the hard chestpiece when it comes to changing a bust.

I guess each has its own charm. Maybe the III version (along with DDS and DDdy2) will improve over time.

Is it difficult to reinforce the shoulders and hips with the Coolcat parts?

Not at all, the aluminium reinforcing is really easy to insert. It just fits straight over the top of the joint. Nerina came with a busted shoulder joint straight out of the box, and some polystyrene cement and the aluminium shoulder reinforcement fixed her right up. Never had a problem with her shoulder since.

Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!

That sounds simple enough. Thanks for the info!

I guess I'm one of the few that really dislike the DDII body. I much prefer the DDS and the DDIII body. The joints on the DDII body and the lack of posing flexibility always annoyed me too much.

I went through and replaced all my DDII bodies with them. No issues with cracks or anything as I made sure to only get recently made bodies.

I feel as if I do not need the extra posability, I never used it apart from the head. The arm joint has never bothered me in the least, it is mostly covered with a shirt.

Another advantage of DDIII that SakuraSylph pointed out to me is that DDIIIs can actually sit up straight all the way. DDIIs can't. Not really. You need to adjust the bust piece too to give the illusion that they're sitting up straight but even then, it can only go so far. You can't quite get the doll sitting at a 90 degree angle for DDIIs.

Crosslegged poses are very easy with ddII. You just oil the joints, they move as well as DDIII. The only part of the body that cannot be posed as well for me is of course the neck joint.

Oil... inside a porous vinyl doll body. Umm... I wouldn't do that. The oil could soak into the vinyl, even if you just try to put just a little on the hard plastic joints.

I oiled the leg joints of some of my girls and it works wonders for stiff joints with absolutely no damage well over a year ago.. The oil was inside the joints, not on the vinyl, I check the joints every few months, once again absolutely no damage.. And my DDII can easily sit up straight all the way at a perfect 90 degree angle.
