But he's a super nice guy who actually listens to what people want, so I give him a lot more grace because of that. It boggles me that his new line of dolls opened for regular sales barely a week ago, and he's already said he can do a boy because people want it. We have been asking Volks for years for that very thing, and they seem to hardly acknowledge it. That is one reason I really appreciate his work. The other one is this: Danny Choo said: We are focused on providing constant availability for regions outside of Japan first. Up until now doll manufacturers have been predominantly focused on the local Japanese market meaning that its difficult to get not only the dolls but also the accessories without paying higher prices on Yahoo Auction or going through a proxy. All Smart Dolls and accessories will first be made accessible to regions outside of Japan. But I think for him I think it's a way for him to counter the terrible trolls he faces. The thing with Danny, which is incredibly impressive, is that he's built himself up himself rather than rely on his father's success. That's not something everyone has the willpower to do... and I think it has a lot more to do with than just willpower, so I'm happy that he's saying how he's done it. Even if someone isn't able to get as successful as him, he serves as a good role model as someone who's been able to achieve his goals.

I don't need to be rich, I just want to make enough to buy dollie stuff I second this. I have severe bouts of depression, regularly cannot sleep through a full night, and yet I have a dust allergy that makes me feel only about 50% awake even when I've had plenty of rest. (Seriously, it makes me feel almost like a narcoleptic.) I'm pretty much aiming for the stars in my approach to building my store, but base line I just want to earn enough to support my doll habit. I'd LOVE to be able to just buy my kiddos clothes, shoes, and all the goodies, but currently all our extra funds go into just getting the DD we want and supplies for the store when I need them. I feel like my only option to spoil them is by making them more clothes, but there are times when I get tired of feeling like I have to do everything myself. I never pay attention to the Volks clothing releases because at the moment we just can't manage it. ~Sister Kyoya To me it reminds me way too much of all those "inspirational" movies about people with disabilities who are able to "rise above" and basically conquer the world. Too often I get the feeling of "See, they can do all of this, so you are a loser for not being able to yourself", not taking into account the fact that these people generally had a large support network, and/or someone bankrolling them. Not everybody can rise to that kind of challenge, nor should everyone be expected to. Anyways, count me in on the bandwagon of people who are really happy that Danny actually seems to listen and take into consideration the opinions of his customers. I'm also glad that he is considering his worldwide fan-base, and not just focusing on a small corner of the world and pretty much ignoring anybody else. He's even listening to people from various countries criticism of specific shipping options and adapting for them. This seems like much better service that comes from a certain other doll company that everybody on this board is familiar with. I suppose it's probably too much to ask that this competition might force them to look a bit beyond the male Japanese otaku market they've been so heavily focused on so far, but at least it does give some other options. I am glad to see Danny leveraging his fame and popularity for good rather than evil (at least apparently). Until I see some solid evidence to the contrary I'll continue to assume that he is just this nice of a guy who really does just want to help people and happen to make enough to be relatively comfortable in the process. Aile Posted June 26, 2014 Sister Kyoya said: ~Sister Kyoya I've finally calmed down from this surprise and I'll admit, now that I have some sense back in me, I find his plans of releasing Eiji a little...too rushed? I mean let's not forget we already have a second smart doll in the works, and as far as I can recall she was slated for 2015 release? And we still have the automatic version to boot. Yukamina Posted June 27, 2014 Wow, releasing Eiji this year is really soon But if he's not limited... My doll plans are pretty much, wait for Miku, and at some point get a tan Luts Delf. I thought I'd have more time until a male Smart Doll was released. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt
SisterKyoya Posted June 27, 2014 All I know is I'm in some serious trouble. I wasn't even this excited about Kos-Mos & Momo's preorder. Suddenly I feel like I have a body for Kiyouteru, Raven has Miku preordered, Tama has asked about meeting Len for many months, Raven wants Luka, and I've had my eye on at least two other Vocaloid boys for quite some time. It feels like our nuthouse is only going to increase if DD Vocaloids take our home by storm. I still can't believe it. The news that I was starting to expect never to hear, and then suddenly WOOSH and Danny is teasing us with pixelated images. Since I will most likely have to choose between two of them, Eiji is going to have to win out. I just hope I can have the funds together before he is released. This is going to be one painful wait. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
jadepixel Posted June 27, 2014 Oh wow, that's a lot sooner than I expected for a new male sculpt! I just hope they don't give him wide, girly hips- I never liked how that tends to be the style for bishonen. But I'll be happy with grumpy or smiley, just as long as my girls can have a handsome lad at their beck and call And off topic a bit, but I don't mind Danny's self promotion. Still working on it a lot everyday, but one person doing everything take a lot longer. I want to get back to sewing, fabric design, and 3D meshes instead of forging through code for hours. gaiaswill Posted June 27, 2014 This year? I'll believe it when I see it. Mirai was already "schedule shifted" and he can't even get enough of her produced as-is.
WoundedNight64 Posted June 27, 2014 Oh wow... That's a lot of stuff that's getting released this year. I think demand for Mirai is high enough that is causes a lot of issues with the amount of orders that Danny gets, and now he's releasing Eiji in the same year?! If the image tells us anything Mirai is getting some of her iconic outfits made now too, and Kizuna has a price tag of 58,000 yen so we're likely to be seeing her soon. Danny says her summer uniform is due out late July. I can't wait to see pics of Eiji though! Finally a male who looks nice (hopefully). yokha Posted June 27, 2014 I hope danny makes eiji arms and legs looks more manly, not slim like a girls, I'm afraid that he just change normal mira with manly bust and hips, because from the pixelate picture the legs looks too slims and really long don't get me wrong, a man with long legs looks good (like a probasketball player) but if its too slim it will makes the proportion looks like a girl. SisterKyoya Posted June 27, 2014 Just by staring at the back of the knees, it is really hard to know what the rest of the sculpt looks like. But I can't imagine Danny saying "Here, this is what I made and you'll just have to take it because it's what's there." He has been really good about listening to and responding to feedback. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Coffee Posted June 27, 2014 From what I've seen, the male body looks really awkward at the moment. The legs look weird and way too long and the arms looks like they are going to be kinda skinny. A friend of mine said it reminded her of this: I also think that the fact that the male body is going to share the same skeleton as the female body is a really weird move. Guys don't have the same body structure as girls and if he keeps the girl skeleton, the body is going to look really off or feminine. I'm not sure if this decision is because of laziness, to save money or some other reason. Needless to say, I'm not very impressed. I also think that the biggest reason why Danny is rushing out the male version is because he knows that if Volks were to suddenly make a male DD, he'd loose so many potential costumers. SisterKyoya Posted June 27, 2014 I have to point out that even Mirai doesn't look like that. I assumed that 'using the Mirai frame' just meant that they wouldn't have to design a whole new one from the ground up, but instead make minor changes for the height difference, wider shoulders, etc. It is a bit absurd assuming that the internal frame entirely denotes what the exterior shape is. Obitsu uses the same internal frame for either gender that they make, and that doesn't mean that the boy bodies look like girls (except maybe the 60cm male chest that is supposed to be plopped on a girl body. ) Coffee said: From what I've seen, the male body looks really awkward at the moment. The legs look weird and way too long and the arms looks like they are going to be kinda skinny. Have you seen some pics that I've missed somewhere? Except for the back of the knee shot above, the only images I've seen are heavily pixelated. Trying to get any detailed info from that is near impossible. I'm used to making full 3D meshes from 300 pixel max 2D images (example 1, example 2 & example 3), so I really know what I'm talking about. By no stretch of the imagination does Eiji's anime reference pics look as elongated as Sailor Moon. By that standard, the Smart boys might as well be compared to the boys on XXXHolic, and I just don't see that happening. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram
Coco Posted June 27, 2014 Also yeah, side note, I completely agree the Obitsu man chest part on a female body is just awful. I do kind of like the long-legged boys, so I am excited to see how the doll looks. I have a Dollshe boy in my resin collection and he's leggy as all beans, so it's be nothing I'm not used to when it comes to dressing them. I do wonder if just Mirai will be available in automatic mode, or if all of the dolls will too. I'm betting just Mirai will be for a while. Kendo uniforms, Danny! I need everyone to have a kendo uniform! Make sure there are women's and men's sizes of shinai as well.

First of all; In order to make the frame less feminine, he would have to make the shoulders broader. This means that he would have to re-do the torso. This means that it's no longer the same frame, but instead a modified frame. And also, my personal opinion, the Obitsu bodies aren't the most masculine bodies out there either. But I never compared this to Obitsu either nor did I mentioned that I like the Obitsu bodies, did I? That's simply you assuming things, isn't it? And nope, I've seen the same pictures as you have. I have a good understanding of what the human body looks like and I'm not blind and I tell you, those legs look weird. At least in my eyes as well as to as to some other people I've talked to. And just as you have the right to fawn all over this body, I have my right to remain skeptical. Also your thigh is usually the length of your torso starting below your arms down to where your butt ends. Your shin is about the same length as your thighs if you don't count the foot. So please explain to me why, on this pixelated picture, the male body's shins are much longer than the thighs? And yes, I know two of the pictures are slightly rotated. But if you look closely you'll see that the lines from where the knee most likely is located to where the shin ends has a bigger gap than between the torso and knee. I admit, my image isn't the best to prove my point, but it's still obvious if you know how legs work. Also being able to make 3D meshes from quite clear images has nothing to do with whether or not you can read awfully pixelated images, so stop. Ravendruid Posted June 27, 2014 I'm a bit shocked at the announced timeline, but I'm taking very much of a wait and see approach. It does seem like a bit of a rush, but Danny knows his staff and his tools better than I do. I'm not going to get all "doom and gloom". I think it's far more likely that he will end up delaying the releases rather than rushing to meet an arbitrary deadline and putting out a shoddy product. I also think its rather premature to be jumping to ANY conclusions based on a couple of highly cropped and/or severely pixelated images. Also, he is based on a specific character, and from what I can tell the proportions of the model seem to be very close to the art I've seen for him. This is intended to be anime style, not necessarily realistic. This style may not be to everybody's tastes, but this is very much Danny's stated intention. Finally, please keep this civil. People are free to their opinions, and to disagree, but there is no need to get nasty or vicious about this. Anyways, I think its far too early for negativity. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more progress. Daddy of: Yuriko, Sohi, Miku and SK's many kids
Suzuna Posted June 27, 2014 I'll admit that I am concerned that he's thinking about elongating the legs to make him taller! I hope the torso gets elongated instead, those legs are already plenty long. Even Mirai's legs are too long as it is, imo
Jezrah Posted June 27, 2014 I like bishi boys so I'm ok with how things look so far. I don't feel the need for the shoulders to be extremely broad, just as I don't feel the need for the face to be aggressively masculine. I'm not attracted to macho men in real life, and so I also prefer more streamlined anime style men. I'll be interested to see how Danny gets the height adjusted, and also how tall he will end up. I would think he would need to reproportion things in multiple areas in order to look like Eiji's art. But I'll just wait to see.
yokha Posted June 28, 2014 I really don't mind with log legged boy, they looks awesome in suit, but I hope danny make the outer shell more manly, like having a right amount muscle and veins, I don't like super muscular body, but if the body like male k-pop idol it will looks sexy, they're not to big but have the right amount of muscle. Hopefully we get see the non pixelate picture soon. Does danny said he will release eiji this year? Wow that was fast.
SisterKyoya Posted June 28, 2014 I am in TOTAL shock. I was about to go to bed but compulsively checked Twitter first... and I'm SO glad I did. Two hours later and I'm still in shock. I still can't quit saying OMG! I am still truly speechless. I really have no idea why he asked me. If you are curious about the reference photos I sent, here is the Free! pics & the Ouran ones. I spent 45 minutes looking for good pics, but Free & Ouran were the only shirtless ones that had at least some muscles, or were decent. I would say that this is a dream come true, but honestly I never even imagined something like this would happen. After spending pretty much the whole time I've been in the hobby talking about wanting vinyl boys, the only thing close to this that I could imagine was that if I was going to have one, I'd most likely have to make him myself and have him 3D printed. But sending Danny Choo reference pics? HOLY... um... snikies! I'm not even on cloud 9. I'm flying out in the middle of the freaking Milky Way. Yeah, I don't think I'm getting any sleep tonight. ~Sister Kyoya Forum Blog: Badger Pocket Tales (Family story from the beginning) | { Old Family story reboot: Start Here! } Follow me on Twitter, Flickr & Instagram

Talolili Posted June 28, 2014 Your enthusiasm is contagious, Sister Kyoya.
