Coco Posted February 9, 2013 Hullo! With my first DD girl on the horizon, I thought I'd get a few things together with her. She'll get a few more things from Coolcat, but I was wondering if I should go ahead and pick her up a complement of the reinforcement parts as well. I was wondering though, is reinforcing her joints a necessary precaution I should take? Or is it something that is not necessary unless you super want to be sure that she does not break eventually? I know that the metal neck helps improve range of motion, but that it's not completely necessary, so I was wondering if the metal cuff bits are the same. I do feel though that maybe it might be smart to buy the pieces, considering how quickly I broke my poor Obitsu's hip. My poor girl... Also, I was wondering if you guys had advice on what extra pieces it might be smart to have on hand, or if there's advice on what breaks kind of easily, kind of like hips on Obitsus. Something like, "hey, don't take off her leg unless you know that getting it back on could possibly break her hip".

SakuraSylph Posted February 9, 2013 I second the recommendation: buy a set of CC shoulder & hip reinforcement bits for every DD3 or DDS you adopt. Think of it as cheap preventive maintenance -- putting them on when there's no problem will prevent there from ever being a problem. Then you can enjoy your girls worry-free (like DDII) but get the better posability of DDIII. Recommend against the new neck parts though. CC doesn't have a good way to secure them to the internal frame, and the whole assembly gets loose in a matter of days. CC's solution is to superglue the provided nut in place on the provided bolt, which, while it'll work with a strong enough glue, doesn't seem like a great idea overall to me. SchroedingersCat Posted February 9, 2013 Third. These are pretty much a must in my opinion. Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!
Coco Posted February 10, 2013 Oh my, I am glad I asked. I would hate to start a trend where I break something important on my vinyl dolls first thing. Is it easy getting the girls apart and then back together again after "surgery"? Is there anything I should be especially aware of not breaking while working on her? Also, I was recently reminded my Melty is a one-piece torso. Is that going to pose a much greater challenge to do work on, or would you say it's about the same? shinegamix Posted February 10, 2013 its actually really easy. 5 mins needed to do the job. here is a examp[le of my rise: http://www.figure.fm/en/post/44320/Surgery.html because you have a one piece torso. you just need to heat up the vinyl and shimmy it out through the leg hole making my triumphant return
Coco Posted February 10, 2013 Oh wow, that did look pretty easy! Thanks so much, I will have to nab a few of those parts and then a few spares for any future girls I might get. I should also nab some cute panties and stockings.
aeris Posted February 16, 2013 Are these reinforcement parts okay if piece is already broken or not please? I just had a bad surprise with my 2 older DDS bodies and hips are broken. I wanted to know if these would be okay with these parts or if I need to buy new pieces. Thank you in advance Home : Hitomi, Kaori, Lily, Natsuki, Kotori, Yui, Kagami, Aï, Maya, Hana

I wanted to know if these would be okay with these parts or if I need to buy new pieces. Thank you in advance My Ai (Aoi 2nd) has both hip joints broken, and the Cool Cat parts really do help a lot! I would say you'd be fine with just the reinforcement parts. Just make sure you know which size you need, and get the shoulder parts too.

I wanted to know if these would be okay with these parts or if I need to buy new pieces. Thank you in advance I'm lucky, my dd3 and dds bodies haven't broken, but I do have these cool cat parts anyway. They are a tight fit so I think if you put them over a broken shoulder or hip, it should push the pieces back together more or less and improve the use of the joint again. They're not expensive and cool cat has good shipping too so it can't hurt to give them a try. SchroedingersCat Posted February 17, 2013 Are these reinforcement parts okay if piece is already broken or not please?I just had a bad surprise with my 2 older DDS bodies and hips are broken. I wanted to know if these would be okay with these parts or if I need to buy new pieces. Thank you in advance Yep, they're fine. Just make sure to grab a good plastic glue for the joint and give it time to set, overnight is a good period. When you put the reinforcing piece on, you will need to use a bit of force, so make sure to put your thumb on the side opposite side and brace the joint against it. Might take a couple of attempts, so don't be too concerned if you re-break the joint while attempting. If you do break the joint again, make sure to remove the dried glue before glueing it again as plastic glue doesn't bond to glue very well, and it'll enlarge the joint if you don't. Just use a dull knife to scrape the glue off. Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty!
aeris Posted February 17, 2013 Thank you for your replies! Do I have to use some glue? Or is the joint alone okay? I don't think I have that kind of glue at home. If needed, which one is better please? Home : Hitomi, Kaori, Lily, Natsuki, Kotori, Yui, Kagami, Aï, Maya, Hana
archangeli Posted February 17, 2013 Thank you for your replies! Do I have to use some glue? Or is the joint alone okay? I don't think I have that kind of glue at home. If needed, which one is better please? For my DDS Akira body the piece cracked but I didn't need to put any glue (because I had none either! ). I just slid the aluminum reinforcement over the shoulder hole in the internal frame. The reinforcement piece is tight enough to hold it in place. Her arm has full range of motion and 100% posing ability again ^_^" Archangeli.net | Twitter: @MsArchangeli | YouTube: Archangeli
SchroedingersCat Posted February 17, 2013 Well, I guess you don't a have to glue it. I still would though, just for the peace of mind. You can find plastic glues at any model shop, any hardware store, and lots of supermarkets, so it shouldn't be hard to find. Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty! shinegamix Posted February 17, 2013 use either this: http://www.supergluecorp.com/zap/zap-glues/zap-gap fills gaps and doesnt schrink. so after it hardens you can cut off/sand the excess. or use this if you want to really want it back on. http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-84115-PermaPoxy-minute-Plastic/dp/B000ALBZK8 the glued part will be stronger then the plastic around it. watch out for fingers though. wearing gloves can save you a trip to the er making my triumphant return
cptmorgana Posted March 7, 2013 I hope this is not considered as necroing, but i think my question is related. I ordered the hip sheaths from coolcat, that the site lists as suitable for dddy, but i find that they are to big, there is quite some sideways movement possible, it isn't thight at all, am i doing something wrong or are these sheaths just not suitable for the original dddy body no matter what the site says. shinegamix Posted March 7, 2013 the hip parts are only for dddy3. not the normal dddy making my triumphant return
