After what I've seen custom heads go for on YJA...it scares me the idea of knowing how much Volks makes out of these...

They actually don't make anything on these dolls. These one-offs are auctioned for Volks One For All, which is a charity to help the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake victims.

 

That's really interesting, I didn't know that. I wonder if they've ever released exactly how much they've donated thanks to the auction of one-offs? I find myself curious!

Well, yes and no. Yes they release the figures, but no they don't break it down so far as to specify how much was from a doll auction. This is because there are many sources of One For All donations. At each event like Dolls Party or Hobby Round, there are maybe 8-10 "mini-events" that are for charity -- to include doll auctions, SD clothes auctions, charity goods, and DD ga-charity badges. Volks releases an overall number for each event. So, for instance, at HTDolpa Osaka 7, the total amount raised through all mini-events was Y1,930,953.

 

The total amount raised since Volks started doing this is Y39,783,059. Their overall goal is to eventually raise a combined total of 100 million yen. More details per event can be had at the One for All page.

Oh thanks for the link! It makes me feel warm and fuzzy now knowing that the money I throw at Volks is going towards the support of a great company.

Is the international the same as the USA lottery where you enter in for a particular doll, then Volks notifies you if you have won or not?

I found that Volks Intl *doesn't* email/notify you like VolksUSA does (unless mine was the wild exception!). I had to log into Volks Intl to see that I won Lucy (and subsequently pay for her). If I had just waited for an email I probably would have had my order canceled... so my guess just keep watch on the date Volks Intl states they'll announce the lottery winners then log into see if you won : )

I've only had experiences where Volks Int. did notify me of my winnings...

I don't think so. The Japanese text implied that the Alice accessory set would be coming in some future event, and also that there would be additional outfit(s?) from Witch on the Holy Night produced at some point. I think that was Volks' way of telling us that there are plans to make this another longer-running Type-Moon franchise, not just one-off dolls of Aoko and Alice.

Ah, I see, that's a shame. Well, nice to know they'll be making more things.

This DD Blog post discusses two of the Dollfie Dream-related lots that will be part of the o-takara auction at Dolpa29.

 

1) A custom one-off wig with plaid ribbon (as a hairtie), bids start at Y5500

2) Yuki Morikawa default wig + eyes set, starting at Y7000

 

Most of the auction items are SD-related, so it was interesting to see some of the DD ones.

I believe so since GT is known for making anime and game clothes for many years. All of their outfits always have official licenses (from the anime or the games) resulting in extremely limited quantity for any release

Saber Extra is L bust... what were they thinking? Limited outfit that doesn't even fit the limited character.

 

Honestly that's pretty lame.

At Dolls Party, yes. Ginger Tea will bring cosplay outfits from video games, anime, or vocaloid, and that is all they sell. There are between 5-20 copies of each outfit. The clothes GT makes are ones that the owner, Cherry, likes.. ..and they are usually very popular ones that everyone else likes too.

 

Ginger Tea is well-known for having great outfits and being one of the only dealers to have character clothes for sale. So.. they get a line like 40 or more people long instantly as soon as the dealer hall opens. Their clothes get sold out just as quickly. So, it's not so easy to actually get something from them, as I found out last December.

 

At other events like i-Doll, Ginger Tea will bring clothes they designed themselves and no cosplay outfits at all.

 

EDIT: Cherry, who runs Ginger Tea, used to be part of Cherry Milk and sometimes helps out with their work even still. Cherry Milk has the same MO, licensed outfits, but runs different show circuits. GT does Dolpa while CM does WonderFest for example.

I'm sure some are aware but for others who are not, more Alice pictures are up on the DD blog It'd be nice to see her in a different style though!
