Dollfie carrying case, hard+waterproof, ideas?

Recommended Posts

AkaTG

I've been talking on IRC about this and have a few ideas, so far my favourite is a violin case. However their cost seems a bit excessive (for one that's truly waterproof and not an unknown noname out of China sale on eBay).

Are there other options for hard cases that are also waterproof? My requirements for waterproofness are a little higher than just walking in the rain. I plan to strap it to my motorcycle, so as hermetically sealed as possible. As rain will potentially be pounding it for hours/days at ~100 km/h (though I hope not, as that's crap weather).

Other suggestions are using normal soft luggage and plastic bags. However I don't like this idea, since I'd be strapping it down to the bike, I'd prefer something that doesn't deform and potentially allow the Dollfie to be crushed.

I gather this is a rather peculiar requirement I'm asking for, but any ideas you may have would be helpful.

Cheers

6" (or whatever size works) PVC pipe with a cap glued on one end and a screw cap on the other? wrap the DD in towel or other padding and it should be well protected.. And it will be water tight.. ^_^

Then he can wrap the pipe in glitter foil.. I think he needs durability and water proof as a priority...

That actually seems like a pretty great idea. Simple, rugged, easy to fix, easy to find parts to repair or replace. I think I'm liking this idea. A towel will be enough? Don't have to worry about faceup getting damaged or hair or something?

Nah, bikes don't look sexy with large plastic/aluminum carriers on them anyway. Adding a PVC pipe will fit in just fine. Additionally, the bike will look something like this:

A great case, but unfortunately it's too small for my overall needs. I'll already have cases on the bike, but they'll be full of camera/camping/travelling gear most likely. I'll probably end up getting some Givi stuff, like a Trekker TRK52N and some side panniers perhaps the aluminum OBK48 and OBK37.

(OT: How do I gain the ability to post links without being a spammer and posting however many times is required to gain that ability, it would be quite beneficial if I were able to post photos or even just quote people who posted links....)

I suggested a towel, but you would pad the inside to whatever suits your comfort level.. Get one of those face guards to protect the face-up? Consider bike vibrations into the padding requirements.. Just make sure you leave the thing open long enough after fabrication so that ABS glue fumes don't do a number on your girl...

I'm pretty sure I've seen really big plastic bags in travel sections of stores. Like, big enough to put a human-sized clothes in them. Some even have Zip-lock type tops on them. Could get one and wrap it tightly around a violin case. If it doesn't have a Zip-lock type top, then tape it shut. Not with weak Scotch tape, but with some packing tape or something. When you want to open it, just carefully cut the bag open at the place where you taped it and then tape it back shut later when you need it closed.

This way you can use a Volks or other doll company violin case that's hard, but you don't have to worry about it being overly expensive due to waterproofing.

Are you ready to rock? ^_^

That doesn't sound durable enough for longer trips. I plan some 2-4 week bike trips where I'll be camping off the bike. I think Kodama's PVC pipe idea sounds better suited to that sort of plan. Additionally, packing tape isn't water proof/doesn't work when wet.

Good point.

Was thinking it would be nice if I could make some kind of padded capsule that would slide into it. I could slide out the capsule and place the dollfie in nicely, then slide in the capsule and seal up the pipe.

Someone in the club I belong to suggested a Yoga Mat bag as a cheap doll carrier.. Wrap and pad the doll, put into Yoga mat bag, slide into PVC pipe carrier, and you are good to go..

You can try and make this doll travel blanket. I saw this tutorial on aquilla429's blog and thought it was pretty neat! So you could make this, wrap your girl in it, and then slide it all into the pvc pipe case that you're thinking of making

Ha! It's like those mummy sleeping bags. That seems simple enough.

Reminds me of a small tent bag.
