How many of us got into the dd dolls from anime?

Recommended Posts

I did; Anime figures were my gateway drug into DDs. I'd seen pictures of DDs around, but only really started looking deeper after finding out there was a DD of Asuka (being an enormous Evangelion fanboy). A few years later, and #13 is due to arrive in the next day or so .

I also got into DD's because of anime. First I started watching anime, years later I started collecting anime merchandise and figures. I'm still an otaku and still collect, but right now my attention and money is more aimed towards Dollfie Dreams.

Before getting my interest in DD I collected 1/6 Azone anime dolls, which are amazing too. That was my first step up from collecting anime figures. For 1/6 scale dolls I will always prefer Azone.

When I started looking into 1/3 Azone dolls I thought they were really nice, but then I discovered Dollfie Dreams and it looked so much better. Except the big difference in price tags. From then on my goal was to get a Dollfie Dream (which is still my goal at the moment).

Such blasphemy to reach 20 post without a Rozen Maiden mention.

Rosen Maiden was why I was paying attention to Volks at all. By then it was only a matter of time before they released a girl I really wanted, and of course acted as the gateway for the rest. I was into DD before Danny Choo made it cool(-ish).

I didn't win Suigintou in lottery though. And they seem to have stopped before even trying Kanaria & Kirakishou.

I got into DD from Rozen Maiden as well. I saw Dridoller's girls, and was instantly hooked on learning about them. Parents were not pleased.

Specializing in the art of being different, which is a polite way of saying "weird."

I do think I'm too young for this hobby…

I saw a discussion on DDs on 4chan's /jp board. Someone posted a picture of their Saber Nero DD in her default outfit holding a big gun and some bullets. An ample amount of bosom was shown because of the outfit, and the doll had a confident smirk on her face due to the way the guy took the picture.

Something clicked in my head and I thought, "I should get one of these" and went from there.

I've seen other pictures of DDs on 4chan before seeing the one I described above. These other pictures looks nice as well, and did not have the weird style that many resin dolls have. I suppose they warmed me up to the idea of owning one, as well.

I got into dd dolls because I like anime. It was love at first site when I saw my first pictures of dd dolls on the internet. I just really like the anime look to them.

I got into Dollfie Dream via my Higurashi obsession! I was searching one day for merchandise when I stumbled upon someone's custom Rika Furude MDD and HAD to have her! (Her body was already sold, but I bought everything else and am in the process of piecing her together!)

I thought that was it and there'd be no way I'd get myself into this hobby, but let's just say my signature begs to differ

The sculpts in my family:

Beatrice, Rise, Komaki, Lucy, Etheldreda, Konomi, Maria, Nia, Erica, Melty, Rin T., Millhiore, Sheryl, Yoko, DDH-01, DDH-04, DDH-05, DDH-10

Yeah, I think I saw these dolls and was like *OMFG ANIME DOLLIES!!* but then some how I just really didn't understand Dollfies and how to get one so I became solely a stalker with wishful thinking hehe. And Dollfies lead me to resin dolls and resin dolls I've been stalking for half a year now and then anime-style resin dolls brought me back here

I also got into DD dolls from anime.

At first anime got me into small anime merchandise like keychains, videogames and stuff.

Then I found out about anime style dolls, but I found them really expensive at the time. I started looking at 1/6 Azone dolls at first and eventually bought my first one.

Later on I found out about Azone 1/3 scale anime dolls and I found them georgeous, not too soon after I also found out about Dollfie Dreams, which looked even better and more amazing.

Right now I basically like Dollfie Dreams, Azone 1/3 and Azone 1/6 dolls. I have taken a kind of break collecting anime figures, just to save up for a Dollfie Dream.

Looks like for most people on here, anime was truely the gateway drug to DD. ...Myself included. I loved the first installment of Xenosaga, so I knew I was either going to get Kos-Mos or Momo. (Went with Momo since I have a number of Kos-Mos figures already and Momo's price tag was a little easier to "justify".) I'm also looking at DD as a fantastic format to make dolls of characters that either didn't get much figure support, or none at all. (Lulu from Final Fantasy X! Ultimecia!) The possibilities are endless...provided you have the wallet and the space to do so.

Although I think it's their anime characteristics that is drawing me into getting one, I really like the wide range of options available for posing, dressing, and changing the appearance of the dolls. I first found out about them back when my sister wanted one (now she thinks anime and manga are dumb and that the dolls are also dumb but whatever floats her boat), which was honestly a very long time ago.

I also wanted to get a dd because of their popularity, and that the ownerbase/fanbase for these dolls was huge, unlike some other dolls I was considering getting (Apple, Pullip).

If I randomly disappear in the conversation, don't blame me, blame my homework and real life! >0<

Anime got me into BJDs, which I collected for a while and then decided I prefer the 'moe' look of dollfies and the lighter weight of vinyl compared to resin. I'm in the process of selling off the last of my 1/3 resins and plan to keep my 1/4 resins around but I'm almost 'done' assembling Holo and I have my next girl planned (who will probably be an SQLab on a Parabox body rather than a dollfie).

I did, technically. XD I got into figures and kits first via anime, then ended up finding dolls. I think part of wanting one was out of frustration that there was not much official merch that was widely available for the anime I originally started with, so dolls could let me customize one myself. ^^

In my case it was Danny Choo's fault and not just anime xD

I did as well. Even if I had great interest in resin garage kits before that, they also where inspired by anime. Actually I wonder if people who never looked at anime would find the aesthetics of DD's as attractive as we obviously do, the form language is a bit special.

i admit that at first ,i actually got them from some favourite animes,but......when i had been interested in dollfie dream.....i started to judge a dd doll by whether her face(makeup)is beautiful or not......now, i could buy a dd even i don't know the character before..... Will i be despised?

I did the transition from being really into buying anime DVDs to getting into PVC figures, then taking the leap of faith into the world of DD's. Before my first girl arrived it felt more like I was getting a more awesome version of a figure. Then while waiting on Yuki M. to arrive I looked up clips of her anime to help with the wait and that's when it hit me I'm getting a large scale version of a character from an anime. I really love that idea since I own a few girls now from some of my fav animes. I haven't seen all the girls I own shows yet, but I plan on eventually watching them to see what type of show my girls came from and if I like it.

I've loved anime since my early teens. So when I got interested in collecting bjds I looked at all the brands most were resin, but when I went on the volks website to have a look I saw the Dollfie dreams and I instantly fell in love

I'm another one who got into DDs after having resins first. I do like anime so I was definitely drawn into the aesthetic because of it (I fell in love with MDD Mirai) however as I usually prefer my dolls to be characters of mine I prefer the realism of BJDs for them.

I'd personally always seen DDs face sculpts fitting more as a doll I'd have for dress up in cosplays rather than any actual character, (at the time being a 17 year old I didn't have to wallet size to justify a purchase just for that) though I'm liking the delicate features of DD for the character my Mai is supposed to represent. I love the sculpts there have been since I first took a peek at them too I think at the time there was one 01 02 and 03 to pick from.

I don't think I could ever go back to a resin body though (one character being the exception as I plan on heavily modding it). I've had more fun playing around posing my Mai in one day than I have the entire time having my crew's resin bodies.

In a roundabout way I guess I did come to DD through anime. Years ago when I was in college I was in the anime club and someone brought in a custom Dollfie Plus on day. I was really intrigued so I started looking online for them and found resin BJDs. Then from resin dolls I found Dollfie Dreams.

I'm also a pvc figurine collector and anime lover (first 70% and second 30%) but specially in my case I got stuck in the DD world because of videogame DDs xD I really love persona saga and when I saw my favorite character from P4 videogame I knew she had to be mine. So in my case it varies a little, not really from anime but weakness comes from videogames dolls ^^
