Shy school girl

Concept for a shy school girl character-

I thought it'd be fun to come up with an original character and turn her into a DD. My original plan was to use my hdd-03 head, sew a uniform and find the right wig. But as you can tell from the sketch, she took on a life of her own and now demands a new head 9_9

Either I'll get a standard head and mod the mouth, or see if I can get a Mio and customize the faceup. Anyway, here's the design so far, I'm just waffling on the color scheme.

 

 

 

Oh, and she still needs a name!

Wow! She looks fabulous! I like all the color schemes, too. Although, I think the one in the larger picture is my favorite.

I really like her high waist skirt and the stockings of her. I prefer the last two colour schemes over the others, although I also like the red/greenish combo and the purple hair one. Actually, they're all quite nice. It's hard to choose what one likes best.

I like the last color scheme too, I think the brown on brown works out pretty well, and a red scarf would work better then the blue one in the big picture.

She's really cute!

 

It's hard picking the colour palette for her.. I feel like a combo of pink and brown would be really nice - maybe give her pink hair with the brown/tan uniform with the blue scarf and make her flower blue to match the scarf?

 

As for names I'm stumped, depended on if you wanted something Japanese or were open to anything.

That what I was thinking too. Does the name have to be Japanese or can anything go?

How about Mireille (base on mirar "to admire" - I think it sounds soft and cute) or Shizuka (quiet/calm)?

I'm still torn between a soft, muted color scheme, or something more memorable/iconic. Like the uniforms in To Heart, the design isn't that unusual but the pink color really defines them. Maybe I could do a bright summer uniform and a more mute winter one ^_^;

 

I like Mireille! I sort of imagined her as half-Japanese, so really any kind of name would do. It's possible she has magical powers, but other than that I don't know much about her yet.

I can't decide! The last two options are so cute. I really think the second to last pinkish hair color would be adorable with a blushing schoolgirl, especially in the last mostly brown outfit.

OK, let's face it: Dollfie Dreams can be as Asian or non-Asian as you want.

 

With a name like Rachael Swanigan, "Sarge" is non-Asian fo' sho. Southern, of Scots-Irish descent, with classic Irish Ginger coloration.

 

Alicia Yumiko Natsume looks like she could be Asian, but then again she also looks Latina.

 

Tell you a secret: I made Yumiko Perujin (Peruvian of Japanese descent) because the Math prof who helped me get to a point where I could get through the math courses I needed was also Perujin. She spoke no Japanese, the last generation in her family to speak Japanese was that of her grandparents, and Spanish was her first language. In spite of English weaknesses, she taught me to not fear math, and the ways to work around the math learning differences I had just been diagnosed with.

 

Of course, Namiko Yamamoto is part Korean and part Japanese on one side, but her biological father, Z's brother "Junior," isn't talking about her mother. So...

 

Basically what I'm saying is that the Dollfie Dream sculpts are very versatile. Depending on how they are faced up, they can be a multitude of ethnicities, some not even of this Earth. You are not necessarily limited to an Asian character.

I also totally vote for the last scheme. Dark brown sometimes can look much more impressive than pure black. And as the character her self is very cute and soft I think this will suite her better.

 

Mireille is a wonderful name. I’m even a bit envy I can’t invent such creative names for my girls

I'm liking the idea of a French name for a French-style school, something like in Utena or Maria-sama ga Miteru. Really need to develop her further to decide on the name for sure, though...

 

I did a sewing test run using my resin gal for model. Since her proportions are similar, I think I can scale the pattern up easily.

 

 

A couple issues:

1. matching the socks to skirt is going to be tricky! Especially with colors like 'brown' that can vary. It might be easier to start with the socks and find a fabric to match.

 

2. Scale of the pleats on the skirt- looser ruffles will better match the concept

 

3. Scarf should be made of finer fabric, and sewn onto the collar as a faux-tie to look best

 

Still, it's do-able. I'm going to start hunting down wigs next!

If I can get better materials and more tidy workmanship, maybe I could sell things.

Still I'm waiting on Neris- once I get her I can test my patterns, and I'll be sure to post 'em on the sewing thread if they work.

 

I mocked up a couple more options with the brown skirt/socks. It's really hard to decide! I like all 3. It might come down to what materials/wigs I can find easiest 9_9

Ooh, nice finds Fenrir! I think the smoother mohair is a really good match for my concept. I had only seen the really wooly ones before. Man, those luts wigs will be perfect if they get restocked... Leeke has something similar too. I'll check around for more mohair

The closest wig I see to that on the volks site is fluffy wave pigtail in choco brown. Do you think it's normal for it to look so.. frayed, or is that just the styling?
