Obitsu vs Volks body

Recommended Posts

raven89

Hi everyone ,

I have recently gotten my a pureneemo and got hooked onto dolls. I have decided that I would get a custom dd due to the astronomical price of Volks limited models. As for the head, I'm more or less decided on 01 06 or 07. However I have a few problems in regards to the body .

I always thought that Volks dd 2 body is the way to go but become unsure when I saw the articulation for obitsu mdd body . And i did a comparision of sizes and found that obitsu body is actually slimmer then Volks !!

Have any one tried out a 55/60 cm obitsu body ? If u have issit any better than Volks body ??? Or is there any reason why Volks body is superior to obitsu body or vice versa ??

Thanks in advance !!

If I remember correctly, the Obitsu55 is a male only body. You have to buy the Obitsu60 if you want a tall female body.

Obitsu vs Volks are a matter of tastes. Obitsu have better articulation(=they have more poseability than the DD body) but, to some, the Obitsu body doesn't look as good as the DD body. Obitsu are the cheaper option, and many like them for that.

In my opinion, none of them are superior to the other. They just offer different possibilities for the buyers.

I used to own a 60cm Obitsu girl. But I have some important info for you, unlike volks who now sells replacement parts for the DD dolls with the inner frame, Obitsu doesn't sell replacement inner frames for their dolls to my knowledge. I learned this the hard way too because my Obitsu girl's spine snapped clean in two right at the pelvis where it's just about impossible to get to. I tried searching all over the place for replacement frame but had no luck. Turned out after that she kept breaking and breaking more.

Pretty much from my experience with Obitsu if your doll breaks and you can't find a way to fix it yourself...,well you're just stuck with a broken doll.

She was about 58cm tall, so pretty much the same as DD.

So I guess DD and the "60"cm Obitsu body could share the same clothing and whatnot.

And another thing about Obitsu, the 60cm body is soft squishy vinyl on the bust and lower torso area while the arms and legs are made of hard vinyl.

The ankle and wrist joint have open screw holes in them, though they do sell parts to hide this I didn't like the fact that the dolls come with the screws exposed. Kind of a bummer when you dress your girl in short sleeves or shorts/skirts with no leggings/socks/etc.

Also she could hold insane poses with ease until her legs got too loose for her to stand on her own.*cries*

While Obitsu is a nice brand and all, to my knowledge they don't sell replacement inner frame for your doll so if she breaks on the inside that's completely up to you to try and fix yourself.

Now like I said earlier, Obitsu is a very nice and all, but personally I'd go for whichever brand sells the important replacement parts such as the inner frame so that you won't end up like me having a doll who had a habit of falling in half due to being unable to find a replacement spine for her.

(My doll was so pretty too!! It's so sad to think about )

I hope I could be of help to you.

Just thought I'd give you an honest review about the Obitsu body.

I dunno about the Obitsu 60cm body. But for the 48cm and 50cm bodies they do sell all replacement parts. But I think it might simply be that Obitsu have given up on the 60cm body since they haven't done anything with it recently.

Just so you know, many people choose Obitsu because of the availability of replacement parts. Volks used to not sell them at all, and when asked if you could buy one from them would tell you "tough luck", Obitsu has always had replacement frame pieces available. (Which are available here, by the way, I hope that if you still have the Obitsu, you can get her fixed.)

EDIT: Ah, waha beat me! Everything she said, ahaha.

That is untrue, unless you owned the 65cm Obitsu girl body, that body are known to break and replacement parts isn't sold for that one. All the other sizes have replacement parts for the dolls.

Here's the replacement parts for the 60cm body(which are also the parts for the 55cm male body):

50cm replacement parts:

40-47cm replacement parts:

EDIT: Got beaten to it.

EDITV2: Btw Waha, Azone still uses the Obitsu60 for their bigger dolls, it's the Obitsu 65 girl who's unsupported.

Really? I couldn't think of any recent 60cm releases by them. The ones I can think of are quite old.

Isn't Siggy on a 60cm body or am I just mistaken?

All 60 cm Obitsu bodies are in current production and so are the replacement parts.

DD head/Obitsu body hybrids are quite common. In our doll family we have several, as well as Obi heads on DD bodies.

As far as superior, it is just a matter of taste as others have said.

Parabox also still releases limited edition full sets on the 60cm Obitsu body.

Are there any pictorial comparisons of a 60cm Orbitsu to a DDIII?

The price difference between the two seem pretty big, but I'm wondering if this is also reflective of the quality (e.g. Orbitsu breaks more easily or requires more maintenance?)

Quite the opposite I'd say, I haven't heard of Obitsu breaking at all so far from my research.

The Obitsu 60cm is a MUCH older body design. It's plenty sturdy, to my understanding, and can get into some really cool poses (yay double joints and foot magnets!), but it is *not* particularly pretty. Some of the 60cm Obitsu versions even have exposed screw heads in places. (Obitsu has since developed some far more attractive bodies like the 50cm, but they haven't gotten around to updating the 60cm apparently.) Some of the price is due to that unattractiveness, and some of it is due to the fact that the body was designed loooong before the current DD boom was even considered a possibility--lower demand, lower price to compensate.

The DDIII is a very pretty body (especially compared to the Obitsu 60cm), and the posing is an improvement over DDIII. However the DDIII is made by Volks, sort of one of the "designer" brands of the doll world, and Volks is smart enough to capitalize on both their name and the high interest in DDs, so that's some of the price difference--at least from Volks' point of view.

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

We can take some this weekend.

The screws don't have to be visible on an Obitsu. There are caps to cover them. But I still personally prefer the body/vinyl aesthetic of Volks. Too bad we cannot easily have the outer vinyl of Volks and in the inner skeleton of Obitsu. *dream!*

Obitsu is certainly more sturdy overall and you can replace every piece. That is a large draw for many. They are slimmer and the legs are very long.

I think we have most every body type from both 50cm and up, so we can try to snap some comparison pics this weekend.

Just want to bring this up in case it hasn't been brought up and in case someone cares.

From my experiences, the Obitsu bodies "squeek" a lot when you pose them.

The joints really do make more sound than the DD body.

I'm not personally bothered by it, but there could be someone else who might'd get. XD

Thanks, that'd be really awesome! What I've noticed is that there's a lot of full-body shots, but not many close-up of components. If you could take some closeups of the joints, that would be really helpful (e.g. the "ugly" Obitsu joints vs the covered Volks' ones).

We will do our best!

And you are right about the squeaking, Coffee. Usually that comes from being tightened too much, but then that is what helps in the stability.

I think the obitsu 50 body is really pretty and the only down point is the knee joint to it's utter elegance. I wish the 60 was a bigger version of the 50 as then I would get it. I also like the 50 as VMF50 use the same internal frame and I have a couple of those due to their lovely curvy bodies but can also share parts I love MDD dream body it is so cute and squat looking I am utterly charmed by it. I would like a DDdy III body but no money!

I haven't seen an obitsu body up close, but I would say that it's worth it buying the VOLKS body. For what I have been told, obitsu bodies pose better than VOLKS, but it's up to you. With the newer DD3 body, I think it's about the same I don't know though, I might be wrong.

On temporary hiatus.

I agree I think the volks bodies are very beautiful and I am holding out getting one until I can get in on a lottery or find a decent priced mariko sensei. I would like the dd3 body and dynamite but I am currently bankrupt... Reason I haven't parted with $ already is because mariko is dds not the taller dd3 body. I hope to find a head and then get her the body.... Yeah like that will happen!
