Nekopon Posted April 3, 2013 What is the condition and specifications of the body? Bust size, skin color? Any special hands?
glassjaw Posted April 3, 2013 no special hands no blemishes, base body DDS ,M bust, normal skin.
Nekopon Posted April 3, 2013 It might be a harder sell now because of all the DDS bodies being split lately (especially Nanami, splits are going for ~$250 per body) but I'd say they usually go for $350-400. I'm not sure if the recent pricing has dropped because of the releases. Anyone else got ideas?
glassjaw Posted April 3, 2013 really dang.. thank you for the insights! nekopon.
nogo171 Posted April 3, 2013 There are few splits from Nanami (stated as brand new, only head removed and will come with original box) on YAJ going for 28-30k yen while last week some had a starting bid as low as 17k. I didn't see any selling over 30k though. At home Haruka (Haruka Niimi), Akira (Akira), Saber (Saber Alter), Madoka (Madoka SQ-Lab), Rise (Rise Kujikawa), Yukiho (Yukiho Hagiwara) & Touka (DDH-07)
Nekopon Posted April 3, 2013 Ouch, that's some serious price drop.
nogo171 Posted April 3, 2013 Ouch, that's some serious price drop. Sure it is a huge drop for the body but the heads are still rocketing. Or it might be my illusion since I've got several spare bodies while being after some heads ^_^;. Or it might also be the case of a certain characters since the body and the head will have relative prices in a split. Nanami heads only run for 25-35k so we can't expect the bodies to go higher than that. Next Dolpa will have another DDS so I don't see the DDS body price will be recovering anytime soon, unless the lottery is extremely competitive. DJStarstryker Posted April 3, 2013 ^ She'll be the first semi-white DDS actually released though, so possibly more in demand. Are you ready to rock? ^_^
mitsuki Posted April 3, 2013 I wonder the price of DDS bodies will go back up again later. Like DJStarstryker said, the next DDS is in semi white skin tone. So there isn't a supply of cheaper (not bought as expensive parts from Volks) source of DDS bodies coming from the next Dolpa.
SakuraSylph Posted April 4, 2013 IMO, the real bottom-end price of DDS is the sum of all the parts from Volks Japan. If I were to be selling one, I would sell at around that price. Bodies are only cheap in splits, which dry up quickly. I think it's crazy myself that bodies go for that in splits. Volks originally prices the doll head/eyes around 9800 yen within the price of the overall doll, just like any prepainted model with eyes. And they price the body around what the individual parts would go for. While it's true that, long-term, the doll head would be worth most, it seems silly to start off with the doll head going from $120 retail -> $300 split, with the doll body going from $400 retail -> $250 split. The buyer of the head is just giving the buyer of the body free money. Yay? It's anybody's guess what Alice's body will do in price, with her new skin type. It could be wanted more, or wanted less. Semi-White Lucy didn't sell like hotcakes even though she included the first semi-white body to actually hit the public, so I'm wondering if that skin type itself won't necessarily be a draw. I can sort of see why - you'd need to buy all new hands, and you can't even do that since they aren't sold yet. We shall see! SakuraSylph
shinegamix Posted April 4, 2013 think its the lucy mold in general. like me dun like. it doesnt really capture the lucy in th2 as for alice she does resemble the original art more the semi color body is then just a nice bonus making my triumphant return
mitsuki Posted April 7, 2013 I don't know. The head is still the thing that makes the character. No one is going to sell an original Saber head for $120. But I guess this concept goes more for heads that are isolated for sale not so much for splits. The newer bodies being so expensive is making things difficult. Before it was very clear what part of a full set was most valuable, the head. Then the new bodies (and Yoko's body) changed that since the body was novel and interesting. Heads like Akira's or Niimi Haruka's went for less since buyers wanted the bodies they came with. But that is also about how popular the head is. Mariko-sensei had a unique body but her head was cute too. So lots of people wanted both and her head stayed higher priced.
SakuraSylph Posted April 7, 2013 I wouldn't consider blue Saber to be a good example for this discussion, since she's an old doll by now and of course no one would sell her noggin at retail price. My comment is mainly directed at new splits of new dolls right as they come out the gate. The doll is being split at retail price (representing 0% appreciation), so it really ought to be split at retail price for all the constituent parts. Sure, the head will appreciate later, and that's fine. The difference there is time... It seems funny to me to automatically appreciate the head on day 1 and then discount the body by the same amount, thereby depressing the actual price of doll bodies to under retail. Poor doll bodies.. SakuraSylph
mitsuki Posted April 7, 2013 I see how it is. You love them for their bodies. What about their personalities? haha I wish the lotteries for popular ones weren't so hard to win. They appreciate instantly that way. Whereas less popular, easier to win ones like Nanami sell on Japanese auction listings for close to retail. It means it isn't out of the question to sell DDs at close to retail on the secondary market.
SakuraSylph Posted April 7, 2013 Haha, dear Mitsuki, always the comedienne . Yes, since we're talking about DDS specifically here, the newest Dolpa29 Sister certainly seems poised to be hard to win for all the same factors that made her compatriot Aoko that way back in December. Though, amusingly, obtaining dolls is one instance where throwing money at a problem really does make it go away. SakuraSylph
