mitsuki Posted April 3, 2013 I decided to try dying one of the older DDII bodies I have. I tried using RIT "tan" dye. I got some unexpected results. The dye says "tan" but the soft vinyl took is up as a grey color. The blue component of the tan seems to be what shows best. The blue on the normal skin soft vinyl then comes out grey. Some of the harder vinyl component take dye almost instantly. I quick submerge in the dye made these parts look tan like the bottle says. But longer exposure to dye left them almost black. There are some fun zombie/undead/vampire anime series like Kore wa Zombie desu ka?, Another, Sankarea, Zombie Loan, Kyuuketsuhime Miyu, Vampire Knight... The "tan" dyed vinyl makes for a really nice "undead" skin tone. Suzuka came out really cute as an undead zombie/vampire type girl. Here she is compared to normal skin tone. Some parts of the soft vinyl show the blue more strongly. There are inconsistencies in the coloration. The inconsistencies increased over time as the dye set in. Over time, the soft vinyl absorbed the dye more resulting in a warmer grey tone. Her head took up the dye unevenly so I tried to even it out with paint similar to putting on foundation to even skin tone. The camera in my phone applies a strange discoloration effect to the borders of photos so her forehead looks like it is a different color in this photo. There is some unevenness but not as much as the camera phone wants to suggest. In the end, I think she came out very cute.
Bellatrix Posted April 3, 2013 She came out cute! Did you dyed her with the face-up? I wanted to dye a DD, but actually I'd like to do that in a real tan color ✩ 𝓥𝓲𝓬𝓽𝓲𝓶 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓑𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔁 ✩
mitsuki Posted April 3, 2013 I dyed her with the faceup on. My friend got me liquid dye which ended up being very weak. I think the lovely dark skin DDs on the forum were made with powder RIT dye which is much more potent. But my friend who has experience with the powder and fabric dying says that the powder can really get everywhere. So I guess you have to be really careful with it. DivinitaAria Posted April 4, 2013 I think one of the bad things about the powder dye is that if it's not mixed well, there will be clumps of powder and when they burst it causes small dots/splotches of dark spots. I'm not sure if this applies to the vinyl, but I wonder how much more *vibrant* the dye would become if you add salt. The result is actually really cute. Especially with the eye and wig combination! Rise - Rise // Rise #2 - Rise // Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP) Waiting on: DDH-25 for custom Akechi 🥰

archangeli Posted April 4, 2013 kai-suteki told me that the tan RIT dye had a weird blue tinge. It's bizarre to see it's actual effect though. mitsuki - be careful, she's going to eat the brains of your other girls!! baldylox Posted April 4, 2013 well then, now she has to become Marceline the Vampire Queen, doesn't she ^__^v THISTHISTHISTHISTHIS !!!!!!!!!!!! I love me some Marceline! She's so friggin awesome. A very interesting turn of events on this dye project, I'd never have thought an undead/vampire setup could be done to look as neat as this does. Now she just needs a super long black wig and a red guitar and you're good to go! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop. EblKtty Posted April 8, 2013 the dye does the same thing when you use it on resin. Turns darker gray though. Like a nice Soom gray. If you use the powder dye you can get any range of a nice brown. Depending on how much you use is how dark it gets. And it isnt messy, you just have to boil your water with the dye in it so it actually mixes in and doesnt just sit on the bottom of the pot. Also use the Cocoa Brown not the actual Tan. unless you want an orange doll. Even with resin the Tan has always gone more orange then brown. She does remind me of marceline and the other girl looks like bubblegum if you switch out eyes XD hehe At home: Too many....
