What are your Favorite Characteristics in a Doll?

Looking at my current girls, apparently I like them cute and sad/stoic looking ^_^;

I thought if I started getting into DDs I'd have lots of smiley dolls, but I only have 1 girl out of 5 who is smiling.

It always changes for me I think the nose and mouth hold more significance. I like rounder smaller noses and I love seeing unique customized mouthes too. I sometimes imagine having duplicate heads and having a plethora of customized expressions. (ฺˇε ˇฺ)

When it comes to Dollfie Dreams and dolls with a similar aesthetic I absolutely love wide eyed dolls. Big expressive eyes, tiny noses, with puffy cheeks and an overall roundish shape I think that's why I like MDDs so much!

 

And I'm a sucker for grouchy and frowny dolls, I'm just inexplicably drawn to dolls that have a frowny face and angry eyebrows. They will outgrump everyone and be adorable while doing so! It was actually seeing a grumpy faced DDH01 mod that made me fall in love with that head.

 

And on the complete reverse I also love dolls that are like, maniacally happy. Ones whose grins are just a little too wide and there eyebrows are all done up to make them look like they are plotting something. Bonus points if they have a kitty type grin and a mischievous type faceup or little fang type teeth ♥♥♥!

A big smiley face (thought not toooo smiley like haruka), warm cheeks and gentle eyes = PERFECT!!

I find what I like most is an intensity or fierceness in the expression. I don't feel there are alot of examples of that. However, in addition to this I do find that I also like some of those with a less intense expression but have a certain sharpness to the eyes.

Absolutely love faces like Aoko, and her faceup is amazingly detailed and cute.

And gosh, those deep blue eyes .

That brings my DD roster to 70% Kitahara, 30% Serika.

 

Heh, I think I'm at: 62.5% Kitahara, 25% ZM, 12.5% Serika.

 

I definitely look for a mix of more expressive eyes and larger noses. I also definitely like an older appearance.

I tend to favour little ones, especially if they are annoyed ^^

I think I favour DDs with small smirky smiles. I like the ones that look a little "spunky" or kind of bratty. I'm really picky as to the shape of the face though, I prefer the "longer" face sculpts that look more matured.

For the most part I like faces with a smile on them. Partly because I like happier looking dolls and also because it is easier to photo edit to make the smile bigger or to tone it down for a more serious look.

 

Still, I am liking more and more of the non-smiling faces. I still don't like angry or scared looks, though, but of course that could change eventually.

I usually find that I'm drawn to more mature looking faces with smaller eyes. If the head has a smile that is a plus but it's not required. I don't usually find myself drawn to the licensed characters unless I know them and even then it can be kind of hit or miss with me.

With resin dolls I'm always drawn to open mouth sculpts for some reason but when it comes to dollfie dreams I don't usually get the same connection.

I think maybe it's because most of the resin dolls I've come into contact with have had very neutral or maybe-smirking-with-the-right-faceup-and-lighting at best kind of looks to them that I like smiling dolls.

 

I wanted a DD for that distinct anime look. I went with a DDH-04 head because her big eyes and sweet smile were just so cute and bubbly that I couldn't resist. I've had a few BJDs that were cute in their own way and I did like them when I bought them, but after some time they just weren't that happy looking. For me, I like big round eyes at the very least. A little smile or cat-mouth goes great with that, too. I guess I'm just not into pouty or somber dolls *all* the time. There's one exception to that rule for me, but otherwise I do prefer the giggly-looking dolls.

That is my favorite as well... The dreamlike or shy look. My dolls are: Sasara, Ms. Mariko, Manaka, Airi and Mashiro. I think that Airi and Mashiro are the odd ones out of that "aesthetic," but they were both acquired under surprise and different cirbleepstances, which makes them very important and just as loved since they are unique.

 

I don't know if I'll be getting more dolls or not, but if I ever did... Sakuno and Lucy are two that I think would fit in very well.

For me it very much depends on what personality type I have in mind for the doll with regards to what characteristic I'm drawn too. I do confess a marked preference for the cheeky faces

For me, it's all in the eyes! The eyes are the windows to the soul right? They have to have expression of some sort!

I'm not sure it's ever one trait with me per say.

 

With Miku part of it is that I adore Miku, but she's such a unique depiction of the character. The closest is how she looks in the project diva games, but she's more refined and perfected. She's not a typical cute or pretty by anime standards, but she's adorable and very pretty to me. She also has this Mona Lisa effect to me. That subtle half smile on that relaxed face makes me think she's plotting something. I love that! It gives her personality, but makes it flexible.

 

Then there's Sasara. Like others said she looks very dreamy and I think it's really cute, but I've seen her look so different in some pictures. I've seen her look happy, but calmly so. There was also one picture I saw where she sternly and sinisterly stared the camera down. That really took me by surprise. She's got those spacey eyes, poofy cheeks, and the most boopable nose! So cuteee!

 

Saber just radiates badassery to me yet still looks quite pretty to me. I have yet to get into the fate series but I do want to. I've always loved her character design, and those outfits oh my god! I love how all the sabers look slightly different in the face also. It's tiny details but it changes so much and I just love looking at them.

 

Illya is precious. Just such a cute little darling. I also kinda love red eyes and pale hair so yeah. She's the only MDD that really caught my eye and I can't explain exactly why.

 

Lastly there's Yuki Nagato. She's this geeky kind of adorable that I just really like.

I like a cute face , brightly coloured hair and a sassy personality!

for me its mostly the eye shape as that's what i seem to notice more in a doll. I personally have a love for the 07 eyes or similar they just look really nice

I like either mature yet slightly playful or shy and pouty. I adore the 03 head and the only limited i am drawn to are Alice Kuonji and Mariko Student.
