What are your Favorite Characteristics in a Doll?

As long as they're cute, I'm happy. The :3 kind of mouth is really adorable to me, but I don't have any doll sculpts like that just yet.

I tend to go for cheerful or serene looking dolls moreso than fierce or sad ones.

The type of eyes used is a big factor for me. Some customized resin eyes works well even with minimal lighting. I also tend to like dolls with the whites of their eyes showing, because it invokes a bit of realism and does not look too alienish (where the whole pupil takes up the whole eyehole). In this way, you can also make them face sideways, but I don't see that as much as often.

Customized faceup, if done really well, also brings out the great qualities in a doll. I have seen default heads transform into stunning pieces, even better at some default faceups that the character dolls have.

I was never a fan of the :3 type mouth. Seen a few girls with it and didn't think much of them. Then I saw a gorgeous head on YJA, and a friend bought it for me (as a surprise, I was lamenting I didn't have the funds at the time). Now she's a lovely MDD.

As to the thread topic... it's difficult for me to quantify. I like DDs for the anime aesthetic, because most BJDs creep me out. Uncanny valley faces and stuff. DDs entirely negate that with the anime look. But there are good and bad within DDs themselves. Hair, eyes and outfitting can make even the same head look completely different. I love the flexibility that offers.
