summerdream29 Posted April 12, 2013 Hi all, as i'm quite new to some paypal functions, I'll like to check if buyers sent the payment to the sellers as "gift" option, will there be any paypal charges to the seller? Hope someone can help me with this issues. Thanks. My Doll Story: http://www.i-melody.net/blog/
Shailara Posted April 12, 2013 As long as they send payment as "personal" (gift etc), there are no charges to seller. BUT, I've heard that if a buyer tries to go to Paypal to get their money back, in case they are disatisfied, they may block both your accounts (because it's against PayPal's TOS, gift option is there only to send gifts or send money to family, not do business). Also, a buyer may as well as not want to send as "personal" because they can't put a claim on that money afterwards if they get scammed. You can just ask them to add +4% of the price to cover fees. Ricochet Posted April 18, 2013 Although it is very tempting to us 'Gift' as an option to send funds for free, do make sure you are trading with someone you could trust or from a trusted forum such as Den of Angels! If you are sending money to someone whom does not communicate well with you, it is best you pay fees to get Paypal's protection for a peace of mind.

If you are sending money to someone whom does not communicate well with you, it is best you pay fees to get Paypal's protection for a peace of mind. It doesn't matter if it's a "trusted forum", there will always be scammers. But "trusted forums" usually have a thread for accounts that are under suspicion or have been caught scamming and can help you keeping track on who's who. If you have agreed to pay the paypal fees don't use the gift/personal option. There are calculators on the internet that will help you calculate your paypal fees. Use them instead and add the extra when paying. summerdream29 Posted April 19, 2013 Wow, I never knew that much though. But is always good to know more about all these. Once again, thanks to all for the info. My Doll Story: http://www.i-melody.net/blog/
Talolili Posted April 23, 2013 There actually are charges if you use the gift method by credit/debit card, but it's kind of expected. So if you do use the gift method to pay sellers, use your PayPal balance.

So if you do use the gift method to pay sellers, use your PayPal balance. Or your bank account. crimsoncat Posted April 27, 2013 Another food for thought, it is against paypal's TOS to charge fees. I know, I know at lot of people do it. I think it's not that bad for things like Group Orders where the point is for a bunch or people to pool money. After all, no one would be willing to do a GO anymore if they had to pay $50+ to cover the fees from all members of the GO. However, if you're a seller you do have the option of building paypal fees into the amount you request for your item. This is not against paypal's TOS and lets your customer see the real price up front. Shipping prices change based on location so people aren't always willing to build those into the price, but the fee only change based on the price itself. Think about it, if you MUST get $150 for the head you're selling because you need $150 not $140, then just raise the price to $156 so that your total at the end of the day is what you need. To be honest, I'm a rule meister and cannot afford to lose my paypal. Therefore, I say: "I do not charge paypal fees as this is against their TOS. The price you see + shipping is your total. Please pay by "payment for good or services" so you can file a claim if needed". It makes me feel better to be upfront and honest with people. One other food for thought as a seller though, DObleepENT EVERYTHING AND GET TRACKING. I have read too many stories on DoA where someone sold a doll, the doll arrived, the recipient claimed they never got the doll and filed with paypal. The seller had no tracking or proof, paypal gave the buyer the money back and the buyer kept the doll and the money. One seller even found her doll for sale by the buyer a few months later, so clearly the buyer received the doll. Protect yourself from scammers on both sides of this deal. Keijogirl Posted April 27, 2013 I couldn't agree more with crimsoncat. That's kind of my perspective on the whole thing, and there isn't much protection for paypal users as sellers outside of ebay. Most people don't know that either. I do think people should do everything they can to protect themselves and their paypal accounts from the eventual jerkface that will appear in high dollar hobbies' marketplaces. All someone has to do if/when a transaction goes sour is to show that you charged x amount + ppfees + shipping in their claim and you've a tos violation especially if they have proof of it. The only time I charge fees is for GOs or splits that I run so that we can get the total amount to the seller without me having to pay portions of others' purchases. I pay the fees and never send anything personal unless I know that I can trust the person, because I'm a fan of the peace of mind that I can get my cash back. Admittedly, it does make me more willing to snap something up as a buyer when I find an item for a price I like and only have to pay shipping. I don't think "Do I really want to pay an extra on that amount 4%? :/" and hesitate, I much rather see the price as it is and just get it with no extra that I can see. Even if the seller marked it up a bit to cover fees, all I ever saw was the one price. I may be paying the same either way, but one feels like a better deal. It's weird xD Anyway back on topic, I'd never buy from anyone that says "Send as personal only." That's usually a scam waiting to happen. I've also seen plenty of sour transactions where buyers open paypal claims and then close them because the bad seller said "Close the claim so I can send you your refund. My acct's locked up because of the dispute." If you get into a bad transaction, never do that. Once the claim is closed it can't be re-opened and if you close it before getting your money or item, no one's under any obligation to send you anything because the seller and paypal have an official statement from you saying the case is resolved. If you keep it open paypal will get you your money either way. Happened to me in the one claim I had to make. The seller didn't respond to my claim AT ALL so paypal just snatched my money back from the seller and after 10 business days refunded it to me and closed the case.
