Mew Posted April 21, 2013 I am new to this hobby, and really want to get a Dollfie Dream, but what worries me about getting one is all I've heard about cracking. I know Cool Cat sells reinforcement parts, but cracking is still worrying me. I plan to make a custom out of a Dynamite Base Body, but now to the point, have you ever experienced cracking in your ladies? Do you know any tips to prevent cracking? If you could help me out, that would be wonderful!
waha Posted April 21, 2013 You already listed the #1 tip, the Coolcat reinforcements. They're $7.50, and they solve all the problems. The second tip would be to simply get the original DDdy body. You sacrifice some mobility though.
Silverwing Posted April 22, 2013 From what I have heard, it's not much of an issue anymore, but I have a Saber extra DDIII and I acquired those reinforcements for her joints. I have checked her several times since then and haven't had a single issue.
Coffee Posted April 22, 2013 I have two DDS girls, Millhi and Melty. Only Millhi has cracks, and she has plenty. Both her shoulders have cracked in several places and her elbows. And I agree with waha. If you're really afraid of your girl getting cracks, just buy an older DDdy body. dramadollie Posted April 29, 2013 I have decided to add to this discussion after SO much frustration with my DDS Akira. I purchased her used and though the seller had good feedback and handled our transaction very well, I am thinking that my DDS was not treated well before my adoption. Immediately upon arrival her shoulder broke, then her hip, then her upper torso, then her other shoulder, now her upper arm and elbow are cracked. I got the coolcat reinforcement parts as well as new upper torso and arm from volks. Problems are all fixed now BUT I am left with a doll that I am scared to handle when THE reason I purchased a DD at all was so that I could have a doll to carry around more easily. I LOVE the way my daughter looks but this is really ridiculous for a doll that is so pricey. From what I paid for her, plus all of the parts with shipping and such I could have had several resin bjds. I do not want to give up on my Dollfie Dream, but this is just NUTS! shinegamix Posted April 29, 2013 yes akira was one of the first with new frame. but rest assured . with the new parts the problem is mostly gone. if you has the coolcar parts i wouldnt worry about it. i used to move haruka around daily. and she has never cracked making my triumphant return
Coffee Posted April 30, 2013 Honestly, I don't think you have anything to worry about anymore. Although DDs do get cracks and stuff, they are more durable than you might think. I got three girls now, and I might not be the most careful with them. As I mentioned before, only my Millhi girl has got any cracks, and she cracked right after I picked her out of her box. Yet I still decided to carry her around and take pictures of her before we had fixed her shoulder joint. My Millhi is still the one I carry with me the most, and so far, she's still holding up, and if she were to crack somewhere else, I can always fix it. So don't be afraid of your girl because she has given you a bit of trouble before. Akira's DDS is probably one of the worst for durability. I have one too and it's suffered breaks and is loose compared with my other DDS bodies. I am not 100% certain but the breaking may have had nothing to do with the first owner's treatment at all. I've had breaks on mine and rest assured, my girls are fairly well pampered. I had one shoulder in my Akira crack, and I had a weird issue with her foot recently but after installing the coolcat bits she's back to being her cute self. She's the one I bring around with me the most since she's so adorable, and fits nicely into a suitcase. lingling Posted May 5, 2013 The coolcat reinforcement parts works quite well. My Mariko's right shoulder cracked while i was changing her outfit and after that, her arm become so loose until she is unable to lift up her arm to pose. I ordered the reinforcement parts from coolcat and it stabilize the crack, now she could lift up her arm like usual. Despite of the cracks,i still prefer DD3 more than DD2. Other than flexibility,DD3 would not lean backwards(while sitting down) like DD2.
Talolili Posted May 6, 2013 Was it difficult for anyone to add the Cool Cat parts? I've been thinking of buying some for my DD III.
Innocentsake Posted May 6, 2013 Nah it's a really simple procedure Took less than 5 mins to install the shoulder & hip parts into Seraphina

Yukamina Posted May 6, 2013 Nah it's a really simple procedure Took less than 5 mins to install the shoulder & hip parts into Seraphina Eh, I had a hard time squeezing the pieces on there, it was a pretty tight fit. My Etsy Shop ~~~ My DeviantArt

The shoulder part is much easier to install than the hip part. The hip part is quite tight thus its very hard to install,in the end i didn't put it.

If you order the wrong size it wouldn't fit at all. But the hip ones are very tight to get on.
SakuraSylph Posted May 7, 2013 If you have trouble getting the hip CC parts on, it's probably because it ended up at an angle as it was sliding down. It's easiest to pull it off and start over from scratch. If you get it lined up juuuuuuuuust right you can push it down with just the strength in your thumb. The alignment is hard to get right though. Sometimes I need to tap the bits on with a woodblock. BTW, the coolcat "for old frame" parts don't seem to do anything because the aluminum on that size is so thin. There's no real strength there. You'd be much better off buying the "for new frame" coolcat parts which are thicker plus an actual new torso frame. SakuraSylph
Talolili Posted May 9, 2013 Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll be ordering some parts in the near future, I certainly don't want any cracking to occur. I've had my doll for almost a year and so far there haven't been any issues but anything could happen.
