finnleo Posted April 23, 2013 hmm, I think I saw this book when it was in pre-order form, but had forgotten about it totally. Decided to grab a copy as the build pictures seem to be detailed enough so language shouldnt be too much of a hurdle. Now to wait the month for it to arrive.. heh. Amara77 Posted April 23, 2013 Jadepixel Thanks for the links! It's hard to make a decision without examples I agree that it looks pretty easy, however I'm still on the fence, I don't have that much sewing experience and only know the basics of construction. I don't wan to miss out though... http://amara77.wordpress.com blog and shop Spoke too soon....
OhnoRaptors Posted April 24, 2013 After going through those blog posts I fell in love with some of the dresses. I've had a hard time getting used to DD proportions compared to previous dolls I've owned, so this looks perfect for me. *w* Now to find it at a store that isn't Volks. finnleo Posted May 14, 2013 hmm, finally got my copy through Honto (order got delayed by a artbook they didnt have in stock), and my personal first impression was that this would only end in tears. but on closer inspection it seems to be a rather thorough beginners guide to making outfits, and even comes with hand sewing techniques illustrated, if you dont have a sewing machine. the putting stuff together side would seem to be very familiar to those that have read Jadepixels how-to's, and there are some examples of how not to do stuff also. My only reservation about it became apparent as I found out the patterns are for L-bust, and Dynamite busts ... guess this might mean boobjobs for some of me ladies. oh.. but the headband tutorial was a pretty fun thing. archangeli Posted May 15, 2013 I've been following my friend Maruneko (from figure.fm)'s experiments based on the patterns in this book. He has ZERO sewing experience and was doing most of the sewing by hand, and he had great results. He has only been sharing things on Facebook so far, so he's probably still experimenting before he makes a public post, but it's nice to see that even someone with no experience can make cute meido outfits! PrettyCranium Posted May 17, 2013 Wow, I thought that the patterns looked really complicated when my copy arrived, but maybe I should just go for it. Are you supposed to cut the patterns out, or copy them? I feel like if I could read the instructions, I'd be fine. I would love to see a tutorial of someone making one of the patterns, too. aeris Posted May 17, 2013 I would love to see a tutorial of someone making one of the patterns, too. I totally second that! I have the book too and I am a bit lost. But as I told before I am a total noob. Home : Hitomi, Kaori, Lily, Natsuki, Kotori, Yui, Kagami, Aï, Maya, Hana

I feel like if I could read the instructions, I'd be fine. I believe part of the beginning tutorial was advice not to cut out the patterns directly (a bad move to begin with since its double sided, and you'd cut up the one on the other side). as far as I could tell from that section, the instructions were to make two copies of the select pattern piece, one with the 0,5cm allowance, and one without them and also the pinches cut out, to help mark where you should be sewing. finnleo Posted May 18, 2013 Thanks, that's helpful. I think I tend to over think things. What sort of pen are they using to make the marks on the fabric? The page 21 pen guide has a variety of stuff. As far as I can make out, theres chalk based pens, and the triangle like thing is marking chalk. cant get ime pad to spit out one of the kanjis to be sure about one of them. generally id imagine anything that does not bleed through the fabric, nor colorful that would stain the fabric if it gets wet, and dissolves, or that behaves badly if heated with an iron. Anna-neko Posted May 18, 2013 generally id imagine anything that does not bleed through the fabric, nor colorful that would stain the fabric if it gets wet, and dissolves, or that behaves badly if heated with an iron. sorry to randomly butt in - guys, you do know they make special pencils specifically for drawing on fabric, right? They're blue (or white for dark fabrics) and tend to come out with either first wash, or first damp-cloth-over-fabric ironing... (basically, water takes 'em right off) Personally, I've found old bits of soap to be the best thing to use on anything thats not pure white fabric. It glides on easy and you know it'll wash off quickly
Harleyquinne Posted May 18, 2013 I just ordered myself a copy of this book. I have too much fabric I can't get rid of so I figured I'd try to make cute little outfits. For those wondering about drawing on fabric, you might want to try using freezer paper. You can trace the pattern from the book, then trace it onto the freezer paper. You would then lightly iron the freezer paper onto the fabric which will form a temporary bond and then be able to cut it out.
jadepixel Posted May 18, 2013 The freezer paper is a good idea! I use a magical disappearing purple fabric marker. After about 12 hours it totally vanishes, and haven't had it stain any DD's who are testing fresh clothes. Chalk also works well. I got this book too but I've got a pileup of heads to paint, so I'm saving it (literally) for a rainy day jadepixel doll lab jadepixel eye shop

faustbane Posted May 21, 2013 Ordered this book today. I've been trying to draft a good bodice sloper for DDdy for some time to no avail. I'm hoping that I can make a better fitting one with the help of modifying some of these patterns I'm ridiculously excited to get this in the mail!
PrettyCranium Posted May 26, 2013 I was looking at the book again, and wishing I could understand the text. It looks like everything is clearly explained, but I can't figure it out! What is going on with the fabric in the plastic bag, for example?
Zero Posted May 26, 2013 I was looking at the book again, and wishing I could understand the text. It looks like everything is clearly explained, but I can't figure it out! What is going on with the fabric in the plastic bag, for example? I did not see any plastic bag. There is something about a plastic bottle to make the hair band. Can you give a page number.
