Wearing Nail Polish While Caring for your DDs?

Recommended Posts

Nekopon

Hello boys (That wear nail polish and I know a few that do~) and girls,

Before I started to get into DDs, I really loved doing my nails. I love to decorate them with shiny things and acrylic roses, laces, all sorts of fancy stuff! When I first got my Mariko, I was wearing bright red nail polish. I actually got a huge red mark across her cheeks with my nails and it freaked me out! While I was able to fix it that time, I didn't ever want to risk it again. I haven't worn nail polish to handle my DDs ever since.

I've tried using gloves while playing with my DDs but you know what? It's just no fun. What are some creative solutions you have for this particular problem? Can both of these hobbies be together or do I have to give up on nail polish?

Thank you.

Get gel nails? (or the new LED curing gel polishes)

Since they are basically plastic on your nails it won't rub off. Or at least a topcoat that needs to be cured to seal in your nail art?

Whenever I handle anyone's resin doll with my bedazzled nails I tell them that I'm not wearing nail polish, that it's "acrylic" (which is kind of a lie, since UV gel isn't the same as acrylic) but it makes the look of panic go away

I don't really care. I mean, I don't often do my nails (I'm more a natural one), but if it happens I have dark colored nails I'm careful while handling dolls, but nothing else. In the worst of the cases, soft vinyl doesn't get damaged by nail-polish-remover (I usually use Maybelline NY light green one to clean bodies and face-ups, so I guarantee it's safe! Don't use on painted parts, of course..)

??! Thanks for the heads-up though. I paint my nails all the time too and like to put gems on them-- however, I haven't had any rub off on my DDs yet. I didn't know that it could happen.

This question was completely pointing towards you, and you answered first.

I think we are going to experiment with some gel top coat...

Thank you!

No problem. Let me know how the LEd-curing gels work out. I've only ever used UV-curing gels, which take a bit longer under the lamp but are very durable and don't stink like the acrylic activating liquid.

Just be careful you don't buy nail polishes that have misleading labels like "gel finish" or "gel top coat"

It's common knowledge within the resin community that nail polish + resin dolls can equal a disaster since it's difficult to remove nail polish scuffs (from nails) on the resin.

But Nekopon got some on the face! If this can be prevented before accidents happening, it's much better than trying to clean it up afterwards. While acetone (active ingredient in most nail polish removers) doesn't damage vinyl it could damage the faceup.

I love blingy nails too! ^__~"

@ Archangeli: yep yep I said that too :-3 I meant that for the bodies Acetone is OK, but not for the face-up! I misread that she DID "scratch" the face already, sorry >.

I second the gel polishes/gel topcoats. Once they cure they're A: seriously hard to damage unless you're actively trying and B: don't come off like regular polish does on everything. Either that or solid color acrylic, but that's a bit more expensive and hard to do at home.

Personally, I just wear clear polish nowadays and keep my nails short. Less dangerous.
