Nelly19 Posted May 8, 2013 so Monday i got my right widom tooth extracted and today i am disfigured, swollen, speech impaired and HUNGRY MOM COOKED STEAK AND I COULDNT HAVE NONE! I am also off from work and when am feeling good will be sewing. How did you manage with your wisdom tooth extration? mosaicwolf Posted May 8, 2013 Oh goodness. Make sure you're taking something for the pain and swelling on a regular schedule. That will help somewhat. And rest, really. That's what will help you heal.
Jezrah Posted May 8, 2013 I got all 4 of mine I out at once. Two were impacted, so I was put to sleep for it. I woke up to two huge holes, and three spots with stitches. Apparently they nicked my cheek with the scalple. I didn't like taking my higher strength pain meds, because they made me dizzy so unable to sleep. I had to stick to over the counter stuff. It was just soup and sleep for a couple days. But it heals up pretty quickly. I've had worse dental procedures since then. My teeth are awful (I had too many antibiotics when I was little). DivinitaAria Posted May 8, 2013 Oh gosh, I fear the day when I have to get mine removed ...Very, very scared...I think one is coming in actually. A few weeks ago my gums by that wisdom tooth area were swollen, and now the bottom right side of my gums has some sort of bump...may or may not be a wisdom tooth coming in! The thought makes me upset and scared I wish I could offer advice instead of my story of how freaked out I am. I really hope you heal up quickly and can eat again...and treat yourself to steak Rise - Rise // Rise #2 - Rise // Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP) Waiting on: DDH-25 for custom Akechi 🥰
moonfaery Posted May 8, 2013 I got all 4 taken out two weeks before i got married lol XD The surgical sites wouldn't stop bleeding! My mom told me to put tea bags that had been used and gently bite down, and it worked! My face got swollen soo bad, and i was miserable for 3 days straight. Didn't help when my mom sent a pic of me to my husband to be >.< I hope yours get better sweetie! I know the feeling, it sucks! Anna-neko Posted May 8, 2013 I had all 4 removed in one go... and they underestimated the knock-out drugs (with IV plugged into arm, yay!), so was waking up a bit too early in the procedure too... Pain meds are your friends (Excedrin worked best in my case), and in about 4 days all you'll feel is a slight itch where any stitches might be Couldn't really eat anything more solid than pudding tho ... that was just annoying
Nelly19 Posted May 8, 2013 I have been icing the swelling my mouth can open a bit more now, am glad i didnt get the two bottom ones done together i would want to be sedated and fed through a drip, i swell very badly even to bug bites. My wisdom tooth was big, semi impacted and with full roots, so i had to get a bit of bone sawed off and this huge cavtity is left, but its oozing fluids. its revolting, and as ice my cheeks and jaw it comes out of the cavity i didnt go under either, took three needles to the mouth and was awake for the whole fight it took to get it out Learning that its safe outside my shell too
Banders Posted May 8, 2013 Oh you poor thing! *hugs* Take it easy, take the super-duper painkillers, and try to keep lots of ice on your cheeks!~ I had to get my lower ones removed at the same time, so I needed to be put under for it... Only my procedure was the last one of the day (at about 4:30pm) and I think they all wanted to go home, so they woke me up earlier than they said (they told me I'd rest for an hour in the clinic before they'd wake me up, and then once they were sure I was okay, they'd call my lift home) It wasn't even 5:30 when I went home... I was so sore and miserable, and I remember puking blood for a bit... DX I think I ended up sticking tampons in my cheeks to stop the oozing... (gross, I know but I was drugged up and feeling wretched enough to try anything and it mostly worked) The only positive was I got to eat lots of jelly and instant pudding and be a complete couch potato. I hope your feeling better soon, wisdom teeth are super sucky. DJStarstryker Posted May 8, 2013 I didn't have to. Either mine didn't grow in or they took the place of teeth that were pulled in the back to make room for braces when I was a teenager. I'm not really sure. I'm 29 now, so if I don't have them, I guess they're not coming in. I've had a root canal and I had braces for a few years. I know dental pain. I know it well. And I know not being able to eat things that smell delicious. Braces don't let you eat certain things. Just remember that once you're healed up, you'll be able to eat those things again. The wait won't be too long! Are you ready to rock? ^_^
Nelly19 Posted May 8, 2013 went to bed after 12, got up at 4 because the swelling got worse in that short space of time, am going to the clinic to the dentist. I feel wretched, its also that time of the month, i want to dig a ditch and just lay in it for a very long time. My mom thinks how my face looks is funny sometimes she just stares, other times she chuckles and says "can i take a picture"i am really glad i didnt get both done, i would have breathing problems if oth sides of my face blew up to what it is now It does seem like the cavity finally clotted as well. sigh the saga continues Learning that its safe outside my shell too
baldylox Posted May 8, 2013 I only had 2 wisdom teeth grow in on the top, I never had bottom ones. I had both top ones pulled out at once and was put to sleep for the process since they both had big roots. They gave me either Percaset or Darvaset, I forget which, and after 2 days I didn't need those anymore. The first night was agony as I was swollen, kind of sick feeling and just bleah. But the next day I could drink and eat some stuff and 2 days after I was fine. It still sucked not being able to eat normal for almost week for fear of something solid going in one of the holes and causing pain. Wisdom teeth were nothing compared to my baby teeth getting pulled tho. I had 7 of those that wouldn't come out while the full teeth behind them were coming in. I had to have all 7 pulled at one time and get stitches in my upper and lower mouth for them. THAT was insane especially since I was young. Stitches in your mouth are just so annoying.... I hope you feel better soon Nelly! Billy I gave up counting the girls I own, they keep multiplying and won't stop.
Poofiemus Posted May 8, 2013 I had all four removed at once, and was put under since mine were so impacted they were almost horizontal. I was really glad too; between their weird angle and my teeny little mouth, the procedure took over an hour. In my case, it wasn't the sockets that hurt, but my jaw muscles from my mouth being forced open for so long. I did need to take Percoset (or however you spell it), but only for a couple of days. Naw, my big error was that I scheduled my tooth removal on November 1, the first day of the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). Not only did I sleep enough to totally throw my word count off, those first few days, what little writing I did was done on Percoset. Those first few pages were. . . interesting to re-read the next October. I thought it was a good idea to have my characters drink a soda called Duck Squirt, and came up with some utterly bizarre similes. "She cocked her head at him, as though he were a particularly strange creature that wandered into the airport and got a twenty-two second segment on the evening news." . . .I. . . don't ask me what that even means, to this day I don't understand it even though I wrote it! In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.
Nekopon Posted May 8, 2013 Don't scare me like this... I'm getting my final wisdom tooth removed this Saturday. All my wisdom teeth came out at different times but the first three were regular extractions- nothing different from just pulling out any other teeth but this last one is coming out sideways and is growing into my other teeth. For the surgery, they are going to numb me and put me on laughing gas. I have the option to just knock out but since it's only one tooth, I think laughing gas will suffice. I was told to take the pain meds before and after so that it overlaps and I won't feel pain at all. They've warned me they might hit two of the nerves and also stitching will be made for sure. I won't be able to eat cold things like ice cream on that side for 3-4 months without pain... I'll keep you guys posted after the extracting for sure. kymaera Posted May 8, 2013 I had all of mine removed. One had came through, but at a weird angle, so had to be pulled. The other three were impacted and had to be cut out. It ended up taking quite a bit of time because the doctor was having problems getting them out, then stopping the bleeding. The worst part of it was after the operation because I was so nauseous. Not sure if it was all the bleeding, reaction to the anesthesia or combination of the two. I just remember being curled up on my couch, finally finding a position where I wasn't that nauseous, then trying my best not to move out of it.
Nelly19 Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks guys, i just woke up up and am feeling much better, still have some swelling but thanks to the meds i was given today (much stronger ones) the swelling is down and pain is gone. I wasnt even able to brush my teeth this morning but i was finally able to after i got up. Pudding for meals and gatorade is ok i guess when its time for the left to come out i will know better lol. Anriko Posted May 12, 2013 Ewww, wisdom teeth. I had one on the lower left that ended up impacted, growing sideways and hurt like nobody's business; At the time they'd told me I should have the other three removed, but I had to pass because of funds. I was doing good to get the one out on my dinky paycheck! >>; Then a couple years later, I had to have the one on my upper right removed because it was literally breaking apart into little fragments where it stuck out of my gums - I could go in there and poke at it very carefully and come out with bits of enamel on my finger, though it never hurt a bit. Since I'd gotten a better job at that time I had the other two yanked as well and was done with it. I still have the x-ray that shows the nice gaping hole in the upper right one floating around if anyone cares
Nekopon Posted May 13, 2013 X-rays are always fun, I'd love to see! Anyways, the surgery yesterday morning was a success. I was not gassed because they said it would cost $150 for laughing gas that was not covered by insurance. Why, with $150, I could buy that lovely Natsuki Uniform Set from Billy! So I skipped out on it and watched them do the whole thing. It was super nerve-wrecking, actually. They had to drill it twice and crack it once to get it out in the end. I think the weirdest part was watching them stitch it, this bloody (in both meanings of this word) thread going in and out of my mouth for five minutes. I felt okay yesterday afterwards, I can still eat many things as long as they're not crunchy or hard. Everything has to be in miniature portions though, like the size of the top of my pinky. I ended up eating wonton noodles for dinner, not so bad! However, I woke up this morning with a huge well on my cheek and I could barely fit my toothbrush into my mouth. The pain has gotten worse, traveling up to my brain. I've been taking constant pain-killers and sleeping off the pain. Hopefully I can go to work tomorrow but it seems bleak. >____<
Nelly19 Posted May 13, 2013 Haha, i am almost healed after being deformed for days, i lost alot of weight, its very noticeable it seems and my mouth was an acid chamber (i got a small burn on the back of my tongue from the oozing) i had to rinse with peroxide and then brush with baking soda, so my mouth is back to normal, breath is better and am not miserable. Sadly i am gonna have to do this 3 more times, as i cant survive getting them all done together, but i will see after xrays. Your lucky, I cant eat solid food at all, my bone seems to be sore from having some cut off from the tooth, i have been drinking ensure as meals and gatorade for the past week, i tried eggs and it was too much and fought with the grits and cheese this morning. growing up sucks dude. crappyshappyshaw Posted May 13, 2013 Wow, you guys seem to have smooth oral surgeries, despite the pain and swelling. I got all four of mine pulled about a month ago and I was never put under It didn't hurt, but seeing those docs pulling out your teeth in front of you is terrifying! ...Especially when the numbing started to fade when they pulled my last one. I'm glad your surgery went well though
Jezrah Posted May 13, 2013 I wouldn't say that all my oral surgeries went well. A couple years after I got my wisdom teeth out I had to have my back tooth (so the one in front of where my wisdom tooth had been) pulled. I had been going to the same dentist my whole life, and appointments had been so hard to get since his partner died. Every time he worked on me I had to wait for like a half hour for the novocaine to kick in, which made him irritated since it would back up the other appointments. So anyway, getting this tooth pulled, he didn't wait for the novocaine to kick in. He insisted he had given me enough to numb a horse. But when he pulled it, I could feel it. I screamed. I never scream. Whimper maybe, but not scream. And he just told me to stop it, I couldn't possibly feel it and I would just scare the other patients.... I wrote out a check to pay the @#$/"^ with shaking hands, and my mom took me to her house. The novocaine kicked in 20 minutes later when I was getting iced tea from McDonald's. I got a new dentist not long after. I never had to wait for a half hour for the novocaine to kick in, and if I looked uncomfortable he would give me more.
