broken MDD body

Recommended Posts

aeris

Hi

I had a very bad surprise yesterday when I discovered a MDD body sold as a "like new" one has some cracks inside.

I would like to know please if there is any way to repair it. I am sorry if the question has already been asked.

I am totally noob so I would need if possible a tutorial step by step.

I read here I would need epoxy glue, correct? I will try to find some this weekend.

Cracks are on the torso joint and on one shoulder.

Here are pics :

the shoulder

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I've not seen the cracks on the shoulder areas before but I definitely have seen them on the torso ring. You can easily repair these by using this:

I get mine from auto parts places so I'd check there first locally. If they don't have it there, you may have to buy a tube online. I usually pay about $8 for a tube and it's a great way to fix breaks and cracks. I've used it to repair broken and cracked shoulder tubes on the DDS/DD3 frames, spine breaks on DDII and DDdy bodies and broken MDD legs and ankles. So I think you'll be fine using it for this too.

Very useful! Where can I buy this in Europe?

I have no idea where you can find this in Europe. But I would try stores that sell auto parts. We have places that just sell repair and replacement parts like brakes and water pumps and such here that also sell these types of adhesives. You might also find something similar in a craft store but I'm not sure about that. If you can't find anything locally, I'm sure you can find it online over there.

The torso piece crack is a pretty common thing... you can temporary fix it with small hair elastic, or wind lots of tread around it tight (my girl was "fixed" like that for months... yes, I'm a terrible person)

If you're feeling up to an adventure - head to a hardware store and look for small washers or nuts (you know, things that go with screws?) to clasp over the broken joint instead (its pretty much what CoolCat's metal joint fixes are)

The epoxy stuff might be found in a craft store. Since it can cement almost anything together, it shows up around glass or wood hobby stuff, or where all adhesives are in general

Thank you! I will look for that glue.

Sorry for noob question, but how do I have to put the glue? Just a bit on the crack and make some pressure on the joint?

Is the glue only enough or should I put something around the joint after the glue please?

I remember people put something around DDIII joints before coolcat did their reinforcement parts, but I can't remember exactly where the thread is.

I think it was zip ties they were putting around parts after gluing for extra reinforcement.

Also if you use a plastic weld, don't forget to wear a mask and work in a ventilated area. It's really stinky.

Hi

I found epoxy glue ^_^

Sorry for another noob question but how do I have to put the glue on the broken piece? I mean to be sure that glue goes in the broken part, because it is a so tiny crack.

Thank you in advance

find something really small thin to use, like toothpicks ... or maybe a long sewing pin, that'd work too

And then carefully work the epoxy into the crack and hold it closed tight while it sets

We never used any gluing, we just used zip ties! lol

When I've used the epoxy I showed before, I used toothpicks to get the epoxy down into the cracks. Once it was down in there, I used some small clamps to hold the parts together until the 4 or 5 hour drying time was up. Since these parts that are cracked aren't seen from the outside, I'd fill the cracks themselves with epoxy and then put a thick film of it over all the cracks too to help hold things together after they dry. I did this on Manami's torso stuff and it worked very well.

Make sure to mix the epoxy properly and to let it dry for the specified time too or else it may not setup properly and harden like it should. I had this issue when I repaired some MDD ankles and had to redo it twice before the mixture was correct.

If you still can't get the parts to stay fixed, you can ship them to me and I'll give it a go if you like. I can't promise a total fix but I can try my best for you.

Thank you so much for your reply and offer. I really appreciate!

I tried with a toothpick too. From what you said here, I think I did not mix the epoxy correctly. I tried to fix another plastic thing at the same time and it is also broken again. I had a lot of problems with the tube and it was hard to put glue outside the 2 tubes correctly. I did not think it could be a problem, thanks for letting me know. I let it dry correctly I think ( more than 2 days).

So I will try again first. I will let you know ^_^
