Creating Mirai [DDH-03 mods & faceup done!]

So long I have longed for an MDD and at long last I managed to put two and two together and purchased her... in parts. To create my peculiar character Mirai (who gets her name after her older brother, Yagate, who will be a DDH-07 when I can afford him) I picked a white DDH-03 head to go on a normal skin small chested MDD body, entered an auction for an old 2005 head over Yahoo Japan Auctions, won her and just today she arrived to my house, accompanied by my partner in crime modding, Shai.

 

This is a recount of our adventure with Mirai as it happens. Here's what needs to get done:

 

Mods: [ Finished ] heavy mods on her eyes, cheeks, chin, nose and lips (I'm revamping the head entirely)

Faceup: [ Finished ] after the mods get done Mirai will need a face

Hair and eyes: [ Waiting On ] twin snow eyes and a miruya wig, both have been ordered and are awaited for

Clothes: [Finished] We can't just leave a proper little lady naked now, can we?

 

This is Mirai's first reference picture, ever since its creation her eye color has been changed to a dark blue and hair color to a paler pink, (I also might take a Medium bust for her in the future) but I have nothing better for an introduction.

This is what I started with, a blank, white DDH-03 made in 2005. The headcap is somewhat yellowed in comparison to the face, has not been modded for easy fit on the head and her face has some very pale, almost impossible to see stains on her eyebrows.

 

The modding begins! Nose and lips are beginning to be sanded down, it's my first ever experience modding vinyl so I'm a little careful with it >_< wouldn't want to mess my pretty girl up any.

 

Step two, sanded further and also rounded the face some; next up we'll do some eyework.

 

I'm eating away at the vinyl with both an exacto knife as well as the sandpaper itself, being too afraid to cut deep enough -since vinyl feels so soft in comparison to resin OTL- I create all those little dents that are rather annoying but don't really resist my sandpaper for long.

 

Smoothened the eyewells -just to make sure the dents aren't fooling me- and still going strong. The eyes need to be enlarged further towards the top to create Mirai's rounded eye shape, her nose and lips reduced further and face rounded more.

Also oops... teaser picture of her outfit, or at least just shoes in the background? I need to be more careful...

She looks very cute in the reference picture! I'm super excited to see how she turns out

And I don't see very many modded 03 heads, it'll be cool to see what you end up with

03 is certainly not as popular for mods, maybe because it's already very beautiful to begin with.

Finally finished Mirai's mods and her faceup! Shai did an amazing help there together with me to pull (especially the latter amg) off since her linework is a lot more delicate than mine.

 

Mirai also got her wonderful wig from Miruya the other day! I just love it so much ;;v;; She's not wearing her dress that I made for her so I'll be showcasing that soon enough~ Her eyes will take longer to get here but I'll try putting a pair of our own custom eyes in her to see how she looks with her original eye color!

 

Woww, she's so cute! I love her faceup and she looks so nice in that wig. She looks really close to the original illustration
