Hoping to get a custom Dollfie Dream in Japan (first timer)

I think DDH-07 looks better for the character.

The process of picking the best DD head for a custom doll can be a challenging one. It's arguably the most important decision you'll make for your custom girl. Just to share.. I've been working on someone since July of last year, trying to get the right head. Went through Izayoi Sakuya, Saber Nero, Head-07, Aoko, original Saber, and then computer mockups of several other candidates, before finally having the exact right doll (perfect eyes, correct makeup, right head size, useful skintone) unexpectedly released with Alice Kuonji. For me the answer turned out to be wait until Volks makes what I need. For you I hope the answer for Arcueid will be a bit more forthcoming .

 

Of the two, DDH-07 looks more like the original character to me personally. 06 isn't a bad option and will be easier to buy, but 07 is closer if you can get hold of one. Right now both blank and prepainted versions have only been preorder items and not available regularly in store.

 

Also, as a bonus, DDH-07 was sculpted by Misaki Serika, who also did all the other Type-Moon doll heads. So when you inevitably later get someone like Saber, Rin, Aoko, or Alice, she will fit right in style-wise.

I agree that the DDH-07 does look a lot like Arcueid (especially the eyes), but the pointy chin is kinda throwing me off. Hopefully it's just the pictures I've come across. The Misaki Serika scupt part that you mention though is a big selling point (coming from a figure collector's point of view xD).

 

I played around with the DDH-07 and I think it's the best option I've looked at so far (DDH-06, DDH-07, Saber Extra, Akira, Airy, and Aoko).

I guess I'll poke around Mandarake and the other stores I plan on visiting for a DDH-07 head and if I can't find one, hunt for one in the Marketplace here (just got that 20 post count!)

The Akiba Volks was out of full body stockings but they said they could get shipment from other stores (one week wait, meaning no dressing up til then). They also only had violin cases for sale, and not sure to get that or a soft carry bag...

 

Overall, I was really surprised at the lack of clothes selection. Still have to visit DOLLCE and Azone in Akiba and going to Nakano Broadway today, but looks like I'll have to order many things online still or buy from users here. Still surprised that I can't find a basic dark blue skirt...

Speaking of which, it sounds like you'll be there for the June collection release in two weeks on the 15th. Might want to plan to go to Volks for that, if there's anything you like (we don't yet know what will be in the collection, but should soon).

Nice! I should still be there on the 15th so sounds like I'll have to leave some spending money for that!

 

Also went to Nakano Broadway today and visited Mandarake Nakano and Parabox. Didn't find anything unfortunately, and the DDH-07 head there was gone when I arrived >_<" (at least I picked up a few other non-doll things) so guess I'll be looking around the Marketplace here. I think all that's left now to check is Akiba's Azone tomorrow, then wait for next week (activate JR pass) to check out the other Volks locations: Harajuku, Ikeburuko, Osaka, and then Tenshi no Sato in Kyoto.

What a nice haul! So cool to see you've been to the Holy Land of DD's! You've done well with the 07 head and Aoi, both of them are good girls to start with. And the clothes look great too, especially the maid set.... I'm very partial to those.
