DivinitaAria Posted May 24, 2013 Didn't see a topic like this. Who all enjoys attending faires? Anybody dress up? Any stories? I've always liked this aspect of history. I attended my first Medieval Faire (The Great Lakes Medieval Faire) in 2011 and had an awesome time (despite the July heat). I dressed up as a fairy and a little girl asked if I turned into a fairy overnight I also have been craving another smoked turkey leg ever since... Just thought about this...has anyone ever been to the Medieval Times shows? During an 8th grade trip to DC, we attended one for school and it was so fun Rise - Rise // Rise #2 - Rise // Ritsuko - 2B // Momo - M.O.M.O. // Nayuki -Mikuru // Romi - 09 // Makoto - Sailor Jupiter // Mikasa - DD07 (WIP) Waiting on: DDH-25 for custom Akechi 🥰
Anna-neko Posted May 28, 2013 I've been to a Renn Faire couple times... First time rented a dress once there for wearing, but brought my massive cosplay fairy wings to go with it. Every little girl would follow me around and tell me they were pretty. And every game tried to play would result in hilarious failures because of the outfit... and then an old tree-man kept scolding me for being in the sunlight so much. Something about not being a careful fairy whos wings might melt in the bright light, and my sad attempts at defense, "but... but.. it's so warm and makes them sparkle!" Second time (just last year) brought MDD with me to pose around the place, and some of the performers actually came up to me to get photos with my "lil fairy friend" and it got pretty hilarious
Coco Posted June 4, 2013 Waaah! I really like Ren Faires! There are a couple up in Michigan that I really want to go to someday, but they are a long drive, and then I know I'll want a lot of money for booths! I've been to a couple very small ones locally, but I want to see the big ones! I wish I had the nerve to dress up too, but I've got no fancy clothes for it. Also, I've always wanted to go to Medieval Times. I remember the show on Nickelodeon way back when made it look like so much fun! There is supposed to be one further west in Chicago, and someday maybe I will be able to get someone to take me.
Sekitan no Hashira Posted June 29, 2013 I went to a Renn. fair during the Pennsylvania Celtic Fling. Everything was pretty much pirate themed, so I rented a pirate costume and blended in pretty well. It was fun and interesting, though kind of chaotic. Specializing in the art of being different, which is a polite way of saying "weird." I do think I'm too young for this hobby…
SchroedingersCat Posted June 30, 2013 I've been to a Medieval Faire once. It was a lot of fun (and I randomly came second in an archery competition XD), but it didn't really grab me. Much as I love roleplaying games, I don't think that larp and related things are for me. I occasionally cosplay at anime cons, but haven't done so for years. Now with +/- 15% more uncertainty! Yukamina Posted June 30, 2013 I went to a renaissance faire one time, but it was pretty small. I'm not that into medieval stuff either (too barbaric/unhygienic?) They had some costumes at the entrance you could borrow, that was neat. Sounds like the ones you guys went to were pretty fun, with more fantasy themed stuff! Nigoki Posted July 2, 2013 There's a fairly large annual Medieval fair here, which I've been to a few times. Aside from the general festivities, they run a fairly large Joust and Tournament, and generally have a quite sizable feast on the first night. Tis quite a lot of fun, particularly if you make the effort to go in costume, even with the odd smartarse pointing out that Monks didn't have Mobile phones back in the "olden days", and hence I shouldn't be using mine. OhnoRaptors Posted July 2, 2013 I love them! My father would take me to Renaissance festivals when I was younger. ^^ Now I don't go as often, due to having less to do at them, but I got into SCA not too long ago. It's like a more historically accurate Medieval festival, just put together by a group of people. It includes dressing up, and often actual combat. It's a lot of fun! SakuraSylph Posted July 13, 2013 I don't know of any where I am now, but I did like going to RennFest and Fairy Fest many years ago when I lived near them on the east coast of the US. Some of my favorite items I own were handcrafted items from Rennfest, including a cup made of wood, pottery jars, and a comfy wool cloak which is still the best winter coat I've ever owned. One can't buy items like that or in that quality just anywhere. That was the part I liked most about those kinds of faires. SakuraSylph
