Removing DD Face-up!!!

Recommended Posts

Shailara

Hello all~!

As some of you probably know, I've had a Lucy head here for some weeks. I've been meaning to remove her face-up to do my own for quite a while now, but I'm having REAL trouble removing it ;A; )/ I've used 99% rubbing alcohol and nothing!!! It didn't even flinch ;A; I'm thinking of getting acetone, but I'm too much of a coward for it...so if there are any less dangerous alternatives, it'd be nice to know them!!! ;^;

Just in case it matters, it's the 1st Lucy release (WS) not the 2nd! >___<

I use windsor and newton brush cleaner. I brush it onto the paint and let it sit for a minute or so, then use a paintbrush to gently wipe it off. It can take a couple passes to remove all the paint. Be sure to rinse it off well with water between each treatment.

Seconding jadepixel! I apply it with a cotton round by soaking the cotton round in the W&N brush cleaner, put on the surface of the doll's face and kind of squish it to conform to the crevices to get all the little nooks and crannies. Then after a few minutes, you can wipe it off-- and use blunted toothpicks to pick out hard to reach parts.

Hm I'm not too sure about W&N...because while it may not apply on vinyl I guess, I read it's not 100% safe for resin .~.;;

(for those without DoA)

Some People have advocated using W&N Brush cleaner as a "safe" alternative to acetone - I STRONGLY advise against using this product on resin. It is not meant for plastics, and event though it is water soluble - DOES leave a slightly oily reside. It is hard to say what the long-term effect of sealing that residue under a layer of MSC would be.

I guess I will give nail polish remover a try >_<

I use the light green one my brand is maybelline but other works too.

I give you an advice: to "clean" and remove the green pigments from the solution (just to be 100% sure not to stain the vinyl), throw inside the bottle a cotton swab and keep it inside.

Aaaand, magic is done x)

As a small update, Acetone worked fine!!! I tried it first on the headcap to make sure it won't melt vinyl at first touch (XDDDD I'm such a coward!!!) and my god, I don't want to know what the hell Volks uses for their face-ups, I just hate it and they should stop using it XD;; It's even harder to remove than Purity Seal!!!! But all in all, everything worked fine! ^-^ And it took so long and was so hard, I can understand why some people charge a lot for this XDDD;;; eep...

In reference to W&N; I've been using W&N on dolls for years. If you rinse the doll properly with warm water and a gentle soap there's no reason to be sealing any oily residue under layers of MSC, and I will say even if that hasn't removed the residue... it doesn't seem to have done anything to my Volks Olivia even after nearly 5 years.

That's good to know .u. I'll still prefer Rubbing Alcohol and Acetone since they seem to work just fine though~ ^0^ But it's good to know for those who prefer it~
