Volks JP at Magical Mirai 2013 Hatsune Miku Event

HAHAHA! That's funny. I can't wait to have Miku go into her anti-famous geek mode... and watching her fangirl over Star Trek & Dr. Who. Hmmm... I might need to start stalking up on potato chips now...

 

As for Bree, her naming conventions don't always make so much sense. She calls her new pig is Squee (when she isn't frequently snorting at him), and she has rapidly taken to calling Tamayuki, Duck.

Well, a pig named Squee makes a warped sort of sense, given there's a Jhonen Vasquez character named "Squee", and Vasquez has a running joke with pigs. And as for Tama being "Duck". . . well, Tama always has been pretty in pink! *shot*

 

My Miku's more of an electronics nerd than a pop culture one (apparently the latter is my job, lol), but I suppose it still wouldn't hurt to mention there are 18" (roughly 1/3 scale) 2005-era remote control Daleks out there.

Box design!

 

Of course, past preorders they showed the box(es) a good 2-4 months before shipment, so all this really means the design is final and going to print.

 

But it's pretty~

But I still love it! How pretty. The draw results were pretty hilarious.

 

The skin protective tape is also an interesting idea. I hope it works well and not leave sticky residue!

So their solution is just tape to prevent staining? For as cheap as tape is every dollfie should come with one little roll and a wig cap. I'm wondering now if just matte clear tape can work on the skin then you just use a magic eraser to get the residue off (though that's OT might need a thread to discuss tapey things lol)

Not a fan of the tape. I think in person the tape may be very noticeable, although it's difficult to tell from the pictures. For the Dream Rescue does that say 2 hours or days? I can't read it.

 

The box looks great! I really like how it turned out.

They show where to put the tape... but not necessarily that it will stain there. They're including it with Miku, so that's good. That page also talks about the stain removal cream.

It sure does sound like they're including the tape with her, though that does sound unusually. . . thorough for Volks. :/ I guess I'll believe it when people start actually opening boxes to find the roll of tape in it. ^^;

 

I also must admit I'm a little surprised that they're marketing it as a stain protection thing; when I saw the magazine scans without context, I assumed it was to help outfit parts/wigs get more traction. Until I see/hear what the adhesive is actually like, I'm not sure the trade-off for stain protection will be worth it, but for holding those boots and armwarmers up during photoshoots and meets it could be pretty nice.

 

Essentially I still think the tape sounds pretty weird. If she really does come with some for free I'll give it a shot, but unless it turns out to basically be the best thing ever I doubt I'll be springing for any individual rolls.

 

At any rate, I'm probably going to start dreaming about opening that box now! XD

It would be nice if it was the type of static cling tape that only adheres to itself. No residue to worry about that way. It sounds useful for those outfits with straps that stain, like Saber Alter 2's. Could cut it into thin strips and keep it under the straps.

This is my first preorder from Volks. Im wondering if anyone here has a estimate on when the invoice for payment may come for Miku? Would be kinda nice to plan other preorders and stuff around it.

Even though Volks does indeed advertise a 2-week waiting period for the Dream Rescue, I'll be curious to find out two things:

 

-Can it be greatly sped up using the heatlamp, just like the Oxy can?

-Will Dream Rescue be more consistently good for WS/SWS tone dolls?

 

Since the little tub looks like it costs $20, I'm expecting something along the lines of a miracle cure here for it to be worth the price compared to a $5 bottle of Oxy.

New development diary!

 

From what I can make out, first bit is mentioning that they'll be at the next Magical Mirai event this weekend, probably showing Miku off again.

 

It's the second part that's exciting. It definitely shows boxes full of parts waiting for final assembly!

 

From what I can make out, they had enough orders that they took a floor at Volks headquarters that's usually used for events, and after protecting the floor with plywood, took it over for Miku assembly. I guess otherwise they'd clog up space for the Osaka and upcoming Tokyo Dolpa dolls, so they moved the last stage of Miku out of the usual factory entirely.

 

Still, final assembly! That's seriously exciting to me. Granted, can't tell how long that phase will take, since we don't know how long it takes to gather parts and pack them properly, nor do we know how many of them there are, but I feel like it's the first of the development diaries to really indicate how far in production they actually are.

I really wish they'll show some open box or assembly pics before this is all over. I like seeing volume, so a box full of headsets or a bunch of Mikus laid out for assembly would have been fun. Even something a bit creepier like a box of hands or eyes would be entertaining. I liked the old QC development diary where they showed the bins of Miku shirts.

I'd love to see the Mikuzukin outfit. It looks really cute!

I didn't get to go to the actual event this year since it was in Osaka, but a couple more bits of news have trickled out.

 

* All types of hand (large and small, 1-9) with Miku-painted fingernails will be sold. These will actually come with wrist joints so that you don't have to wiggle the vinyl off and on, eliminating worry of damaging the paint job. 3000 yen per pair.

 

* A Miku-specific semi-white bodysuit will be sold, also for 3000 yen. What makes this interesting is that it comes with the left-arm's red "01" stenciled onto it, so that you can have Miku wear a suit and still be character-accurate.

To be honest, this Miku campaign is reeeaally tempting me to buy every bit of DD Miku related stuff (all the outfits, body suit, hands...).
