well it would obviously hold for longer - just a pain for people who want to swap out eyes regularly

true. im a standard setup kinda person. you pay alot for those limited heads so better keep it like that... thats what goes on inside me noggin

For me both poster tack and the Volks eye putty hold better than the glue. It's probably partially because it gets so warm in the summer here, and the glue Volks uses is hot glue, so too long in an outdoor shoot and it starts to melt. Plus the hot glue can sometimes corrode the acrylic a bit, like it did on Nanoha's defaults.

 

I can see one reason why they do it: to stop eyes coming completely loose and rattling around in the head during shipping, which would be a concern on their resins because of chipping/breakage, whether to the resin head or to to the eye's glass (if that's what they use on their limiteds, I'm not entirely sure). But it's superfluous for DDs as both their eyes and heads are a more resilient plastic, and they could avoid both glue and breakage problems if they shipped the resins with their eyes out like many other resin manufacturers do.

 

So, yeah, the hot glue me no likey. I'd much rather have to put the eyes in myself when the doll arrives than deal with it, personally.

I don't know if this has been mentioned already. The Japanese Government just announced that the sales tax in Japan will be increased from the current 5% to 8% from April 2014. Since the payment of the Miku pre-order is due Fall 2014, I wonder if the price will be increased when we pay for it in Fall 2014.

It's such a pain removing glue from a messed up default eye-job.

Yep there should only be a handling fee if you use PayPal to make the payment. There's no handling fee if you pay normally using credit cards.

 

And as far as taxes are concerned, here's the problem. Volks has tax included in all foreign orders. DD Miku is 62,000 JPY before tax and 65,100 JPY after tax. But it is also 65,100 JPY for foreign orders. So right now who knows what they are going to do once the tax rate in Japan changes. Honestly, it should have been 62,000 JPY for foreign orders.

That, and the fact that Volks can't even glue the eyes on straight for some limited dolls!

Here here! Granted, in my Nanoha's case the eye slipped during shipping, but if you look at the pictures of Miku in the Senbonzakura outfit at Magical Mirai, her eyes are *definitely* "derped"--and that's for display at a major promotional event! You'd think they'd at least put some care in the display model's eye placement.

 

And again I agree on removing the glue. Getting them out of the eye well was no problem, but. . .man, I can't even imagine what kind of hot glue Volks must be using to leave a residue like that. There's actually some permanent encrustation/etching (little bit of both) on Nanoha's defaults. Not on the iris area, thankfully, and I ended up not using her defaults anyway, but still! With how miffed I was with the damage to those, I can imagine how upset I'd be if they'd been a pair of defaults I'd actually *liked*.

no i think sales tax isalready included seperately. just look at volks prices. they have a taxless version and a taxed version

most tax regimes (including japan's) exempt exports from domestic sales tax. so for every overseas order volks makes 5% extra profit because they charge the same amount to every one.

Just back now after a long time away and I come back to discover this! Makes the fanboy in me all kinds of excited. Definitely gonna add a little Miku to my family. XD

Maybe the orders will be marked confirmed after Dec 1? Because currently you can cancel and change your order, so it's not locked in and confirmed yet (that's how I see it anyway)

Does anyone know if the SS bust will be a standard bust at some point? Since Miku is the 2nd or 3rd girl to have it it does make me wonder. I have a SS bust girl I want to make eventually but we surely do not need 2 Mikus. Are all the existing SS characters all the same skin color? Would I be lucky enough that someone would be swapping out their bust on Miku and would want to sell just the SS bust? I figured it would be worth asking...

I'm expecting it will be standard bust, but I'm expecting it will come out in October of 2014 at the next gathering. She's only the second girl with it, since Chihaya was the first.

miku is semi white skin, melty is normal skin. so the color would not match. gut news is volks now also sells completed type 3 bodies

I just put in the pre-order for Miku plus the outfit, and hoping to add the other outfit to the bunch. Is anyone thinking of turning a Miku into Black Rock Shooter? I have though about a cosplay since SQ Labs do the eyes. Hmmmmmm :/

Is it just me, or is Volks hawking Miku way harder than any previous preorder? Banners all over Akiba, video ads. . .don't think they've done that in the past.

 

I was kind of hoping they'd have done actual video footage for that ad, like you sometimes see for figure ads, where they have the figure on a lazy susan or something and orbit around said figure. I think that would have been more effective than the After Effects funfest we got. ^^; /animation-n-video-nerd Guess it's not too surprising though, given Volks' photography precedent.

 

Though on the plus side, that introduced me to a Miku song I hadn't heard before! Definitely grabbing that when I get home.
