Character Concept: OC Eruingil (advice welcome!)

Recommended Posts

Kendansa

Right now, I'm planning for the creation of my first Dollfie Dream. Doing the math, it is less expensive to buy DDIII parts and build one's own rather than to buy a standard model and do nothing with it, even when shopping on the Volks online store itself. Moreover, considering that at my local sewing supply store that Butterick patterns are $1.99, and that I can shrink said patterns to DD-size, it is also more cost-efficient to sew my own clothes rather than to purchase from a retailer. That being said, I will also be attempting my own face-ups and body blushing, to the best of my meager ability.

As you can see, though doll-collecting is an expensive hobby, I am trying to remain on a low budget while using high-end parts and materials.

The Concept:

One of my favorite OC's so far, Eruingil is my main character on Lord of the Rings online. Though this should instead direct me to the more realistically-designed heads of SD, I honestly prefer the adorable anime-style heads of DD, and the bodies are both easier to construct and less costly than their SD counterparts. Right now all I have is a vague description and a personality, and no images (even if I did, my post count is too low to display them).

The Personality:

Erui is meant to be a sort of calm, mature, big-sisterly type. Raised by a family of wandering swordsmen, she is physically and mentally very strong. She is not easily trusting of strangers, assuming everyone to be an enemy. However, her friendships are steadfast and life-long, providing the trust she provides is not betrayed.

Even though she seems very masculine, she values life and cares about everyone (even if she doesn't trust them). She tries not to show her emotions too much, but sometimes they come out.

Also, she is madly in love with a certain someone, so she's not quite an iceberg.

The Parts:

I figured I'd start with a standard DDIII body, but I was curious about modding the DDdyIII torso and legs with a DDIII medium bust. Is this possible? The reason I want to do so is to give her the look of having strong leg muscles.

The head is my biggest concern. I cannot decide on a face-mold. Any mold I choose must be unpainted and with open eyes. A soft head-cap is preferable.

Here are my three choices:

DDH-02

DDH-05

DDH-07

I found a great deal on a DDH-07. Still, this is largely out of my budget, but if I can get enough money in time I will go ahead and make the purchase. It is also my favorite of the three. However, all things considered, what head would be best in your opinions?

Personally, I think the DDH 07 would fit a mature character the best. However, I understand that it *is* expensive. I saw a DDH 07 head for what I would call a reasonable price at figure.fm from GothicKDM in the upcoming section but it won't let me post links so.... ^^;

By the way, I like the character. It seems very developed and mature. I look forward to seeing more of your updates on this project

Purchased DDH-07 for $119--great value!

Purchased from Twin-Snow: Rain collection grey acrylic eyes, 22mm--$19 or so

Purchased from Dollmore: Junsa HT Wig (black), size 8-9--$25

Waiting for those to come in! What do you guys think, eyelashes or not? I have a bit of an idea for a face-up, but I haven't decided that part yet.

Personally I'm not usually a big fan of physical eyelashes on DDs, but that's largely because I think with the thick eyelash lines many of them already have, it makes them look overly made-up to my eye. I'd say that if you're doing the faceup yourself (or commissioning a custom one from someone) and want her to have physical eyelashes, then you could totally make it work if you planned the eye makeup for it from the get-go. But if she's already got a faceup, especially one with thick lashes like the prepainted 07, she'll probably look more natural without it.

By the way, yes, you can put an M bust on a DDDy body, but you do have to do some modifications to make it work. There's a couple tutorials and photologs floating around here, but what it basically entails is trimming the bottom off the bust so the edge is right up under the breasts, and then sanding that edge clean.

In this household, sanity is considered a tresspasser.

My head is unpainted, but it does seem rather excessive to add physical eyelashes, doesn't it? And I'll check out those tutorials. I don't have much in the way of tools, but I might be able to borrow some.

Make sure you buy a respirator with organic vapor filters from Home Depot or Lowes, etc. MSC is toxic and you don't want to breathe it in. They usually only run about $25-$30 USD.

Eyes and wig came in, and I did my first attempt at a face-up. Not happy at all with the result, but it's my own darn fault for having such shaky hands and being unable to properly thin paint. Pics will be coming soon, when I can post them.

Looks like you've got the mature/serious look going on so far! I like design of the eye lashes. Looking forward to seeing how this continues to progress.
