Eye hole opening on pre-rooted heads?

Recommended Posts

Kumi

Problem is, afaik these heads do not have the removable headcap.

So while You may cut the eye holes, there's probably no way to put the eyes in (they're bigger than the holes).

Cutting the head open will probably require some sort of reinforcement to hold it back together.

Hmmm ya I didn't think of that.

I was planning on ripping the hair out anyway, so it would have a wig, but I'm not sure how I would keep the back of the head on. I read somewhere else that these heads are pretty soft so I wonder if cutting it would cave it in when wearing a wig. Or at least make it more fragile. I guess it's not meant to be.

Everything pretty ok, but Gretel head has removable headcap. This tutorial shows how to modify existing headcap to use magnets.

But DDCHH-A heads are whole ones. You need to cut it in half and there's no rim to hold the shape, so it's not that easy.

I don't know for sure if it would work but maybe it would work if you cut it in two and then reinforce both edges with a thin metal piece (either wire or a very large washer or some ring the right size that is rigid). Then you could attach the magnets to either the metal piece of edge of the vinyl to hold it shut. The metal would at least provide some rigidity and hold the shape of the head properly. Although it's just an idea because I've never tried something like this myself.

I probably won't end up doing it. I really just wanted it to match my other dolls look, with the eyes vs. painted eyes, but I think if the face-up artist is talented enough it will look good.

It just seems to risky to me. with the head cap, and if the eyes are not the right shape once they are cut out.

I scalped one last night and will put up some photo's later as I go along. I suspect it will need epoxy and modifications to give it the rigidity required to successfully keep eyes in place. They are quit difficult as the size and depth of the head make it hard to even give it a basic reroot. I thick volks should sell them without fringes so you can have more free choice with the styling.

Like you said the inside of the head doesn't look like there's much space for eyes. Were you planning on putting eyes in or just re-rooting?

I agree about the bangs, I may have just been able to cut and style the hair instead of having to scalp it lol.

Whoa! Awesome seeing the inside. Although if it were me I would love to keep the rooted hair for styling. Maybe reroot?

As for keeping the headcap on, using some apoxy clay could work to make a lip on each.
