DD Festival 2013 in Volks Akihabara

We already know the Limited Items for DD Fest 2013 courtesy of VolksUSA. But what else is this event all about? In case anyone is in Japan or is just curious, here's what Volks has published about the 3-day event. There hasn't been much information until just today, when the first detailed post went up on the Dreamy DD Blog.

 

DD Fest 2013 runs July 13-15 at the Akihabara store (only) and online. This is a 3-day holiday weekend for the Japanese, with monday being Marine Day. There are events going on throughout the days, so there's a lot more to do than at a normal Volks release event.

 

Day 1 - Saturday 13 July

• The Limited dolls from upcoming HTDolpa Nagoya 5 will be displayed in the store. Photos are OK and even encouraged (see below) on the first day ONLY, though the dolls will be available for viewing all 3 days. As of now we don't know 100% who they are since Volks News 54 comes out July 4th.
  
• There will be a Twitter contest related to the Nagoya 5 dolls, where users are encouraged to tweet all the photos they want of the dolls. Out of the users who get the greatest number of re-tweets of their posts, Volks will select one winner to receive a cut-the-line pass for the After-Event in the Akiba store (presumably for the Nagoya dolpa, but it's not clear at this point). Pretty cool! Watch Twitter for lots of doll pics, if this works as intended.
  
• Three new one-off DDs will get their debut, recreating characters from the Magical School fictional anime in the Akiba Gals universe.
  
• The DD "Gacharity" system (gachapon charity -> fun goodies with proceeds going to Volks One For All) is getting an overhaul and upgrade. There will be pins, DD glamour shots, exclusive L-type animetic eyes, and other items that you can win from the gachapon machines. If it follows tradition, it will be 500 yen per capsule with paper inside saying what you won.
  
• Staff from the DD Doll Design office will give a 30 minute tutorial on setting and styling wigs for DDs, including letting you practice and coaching your work. Starts at 3pm.
  
• The DD Fanbook Volume 3 will be on sale at this event before you can buy it anywhere else.
  
• In commemoration of the completion of Fanbook 3, panels (used in production I assume) will be on display for the duration of DD Fest.
  
• The winners of the currently-running photo contest will be announced. (entries due by June 30).
  
• The Doll Design Staff will hold a freetalk panel (like at a convention). New reveals are planned, other surprises TBA, and a lottery drawing will be held for rare items. Usually that means pieces from limited DDs (like Rina Ogata eyes) or popular old clothes sets when they do similar things at Dolpa. This starts at 5:00pm.
  

Day 2 - Sunday 14 July

• Limited Items DDS Student Mariko and the three pajama sets will be released. This will be in store and online. No mention of overseas yet beyond VolksUSA, but they did say more details will be available on the DD Fest special website when that gets finished.
  

Day 3 - Monday 15 July

• Big group DD photo gathering at the Akiba store. Starts at 5:00pm.
  
• The Miss Akihabara DD Beauty Pageant. Entries taken from 12-2pm, judging/voting from 2-3pm, awards ceremony 3:30-4, and commemorative photo op with all entrants 4:00 and on.

Yes, it's a separate event. And, no, they probably won't have any other dolls. The DD Festivals tend to only have 1-2 new dolls.

Also to add, the DD Fest is always concerned exclusively with the Afterschool Akihabara Girls. In that universe we're getting student Mariko plus three one-offs from the Magical School anime.

 

That's a pretty healthy doll release!
